Chapter 57 - A Girl From the Future

Lilith did not want to hear it. She could not. Telling her that he did not exist when she knew he did. Even in the past, she knew that somehow all timelines were happening simultaneously. So he still existed.

Combined with the shock of Raymond finding out and the strong realization that she may never get back home again, caused her to break down. She laughed from the stress of it and cried from the pain. Lilith could not stand the fact that Raymond was angry with her. Even if he was in the past, now, it was different. Now she was never supposed to be the target of his anger. And she was.

And now, in the situation that she was in, the only thing left to do was tell the truth. What was the worst that could happen?

He could curse at her for lying to him and discard her. Or he could send her to a mental institute. Or he could arrest her for lying and have her executed on the basis of broken trust.

So there he stood, above her, as she cried her eyes out, looking down at her with an expression she could not decipher. Lilith wanted to beg him not to hate her, but she was not sure if he would listen. His trust was fragile when she met him, and she had broken it.

But before she could muster up the words, he was in front of her. Down on his knees, and looking at her in a way that someone who had just been betrayed should not. If Lilith truly was someone with bad intentions then she would have taken advantage of his weakness. And that’s what made her feel even worse. He still came to her when she was in pain.

“There’s no need for tears. You just have to tell me the truth,” he spoke to her softly, as he brushed her wet hair out of her face.

Lilith took his hand in her own. She was shaking, but she managed to hold it firmly enough. “I didn’t-” she took a deep breath- “I never meant to lie to you.”

“Then why did you?” he murmured.

“Because the truth… is a lot harder to tell than a lie.”

“It usually always is.”

Raymond then helped her to her feet and they walked to the side desk and sat across from each other. Lilith played with her thumbs as she glanced between him and the desk.

“Lilith,” he urged. “I want to be able to trust you. I want to believe that you did that for a reason. A good one.”

“If I told you the truth then it would only complicate things.”

“Is it bad?”

“Not bad, just difficult.”

“Then just explain it to me. I can understand anything you tell me. I promise.”

Lilith let out a gentle laugh and she finally lifted her head to look at him. If only it were so simple to talk about things like this. He would think that she was crazy or think that she was an even bigger liar.

Reaching across the table, she took her hands in hers. “If I tell you, then you must promise me something. You must never tell anyone.”

Raymond was hesitant but he agreed nonetheless. “Alright.”

“I mean it.”

“I promise you, Lilith.”

And with the promise, Lilith told him. Not everything, but mostly everything. About how she came on the night of the ball and how she obtained the dress, and why she asked him what year it was. She also told him about her knowledge of books and why she was so good at solving problems and of course, how she knew about him being a Prince.

What Lilith did not tell him was everything about his mother and all she did and the fact that it was the Silver Moon that brought her. She feared that he may sacrifice his happiness to try and get her back home. Or that it could cast a shadow over their relationship now that he knew that she could go back in the future.

“Raymond my home… my time… I’m sure that it is probably happening right now. Although I’m not the most knowledgeable in the science explaining timelines. But what I know is that as of right now, I can’t go back. My parents, my life, everything that I had, is two hundred years in the future, and I can reach it.”

Raymond was not sure what to say. After hearing something like that, that was so immensely crazy, he could not even guess if she was lying. And Lilith looked to be telling him the truth. He knew how to read people, he’s spent his whole life doing that. The emotion she carried in her voice and the way she explained things had Raymond leaning more towards the side of believing her.

“Raymond,” Lilith feared the King’s silence. “Say something, please.”

She looked desperate as she squeezed his hand. Her eyes were still red and fresh tears ran down her cheeks.

Raymond cleared his throat. “Well, you are telling me a lot of things that are hard to believe. But I want to believe you, Lilith. I want to believe that you would not lie to me again.”

“I would never.” she sniffled.

After spilling her guts like that, Lilith wanted more than ever to stay with him now. If she left suddenly on the day of the Silver Moon, then it would leave Raymond devastated, and then he would put two and two together and figure out what caused her to jump between times.

“If it is true. Then I am sorry for all that happened when we first met.”

“No need for that. You did what you thought was right. And if you had not then we would not be here. So many things would have been different. I should be the one apologizing to you. If I was never here, then Landon would have been the King and not you.”

Raymond smiled at her gently. “I am glad that I am the King and not him. Even if it means having to do all of this. Is that the reason you were sent back, to change the past?”

Lilith nodded. “That’s the only thing that makes sense now. Creona is a place filled with life, even after going through what Landon and his children put her through. The people were able to hold on and build such an amazing place. But now, with someone different at the helm, I would say that this country will surely flourish to an unforeseeable degree.”

“Then I have you to thank for that.”

“I didn’t do anything,” she mumbled. “Most of the time I was just trying to find my way around the place.”

“I guess I can understand why you speak so strangely.”

Lilith chuckled. “I do not speak strangely. It’s you who sounds like you've come straight from a regency movie.”

Raymond raised his eyebrows. “A movie?”

Lilith paused for a second before she remembered who she was talking to. “Nevermind. I don’t even know where to begin in explaining something like that. You’ll just end up having even more questions.

And now that Raymond knew who she was, Lilith could now stop holding back in conversations. She surely would not tell him too much about the future but just enough to see him burst his brain trying to think about such a thing could be possible.
