Chapter 61 - White To Signify Purity
There was a lot more preparation for the wedding than Lilith thought. It was being held in the same place that Raymond was crowned King. Although there was nothing like a waitlist because Raymond was the King, there was still all the theme to discuss, the food that would be there, who would be there and the nationwide celebration was apparently going to happen that day.
It would be just like before when people would be in the streets waiting for them to pass by. Lilith saw no point in it and told Raymond that she didn’t approve of all those people waiting out in the sun just to catch a glimpse of them, but he refused to listen to her. In Raymond’s mind, he just wanted an excuse to show Lilith off since he didn’t get to do it his way before. He told her that it was so that the people would know what she looked like but they both knew that was not the whole truth.
Most of the decisions were made by Nora with the occasional change from Raymond. If she could not control who her son was going to marry then she wanted to control how it happened. Lilith didn’t really mind since she knew that Nora really could not do anything to sabotage the day. It was her son’s wedding after all and he was the King, she would not take the risk for fear of his humiliation.
Since the wedding was in spring, there would be a plethora of fresh flowers occupying the cathedral. It obviously would be a very vibrant ceremony and Lilith was excited to see how it would turn out. She never saw herself getting married, and if she did then she could not even imagine what it would have looked like. Sure, every girl dreamed of marrying a prince, becoming a Princess, and ruling the Kingdom together. But now that it was actually happening, Lilith didn’t really know how to process that. The wedding that she didn’t care for was going to be the most extravagant thing she would ever attend in her life and she would be marrying a King.
“I’m going to make this even bigger than my coronation. I promise you.” Raymond had told her.
“You don’t need to do that.” Lilith shrugged. “I’m happy just signing some papers and becoming your wife that way.”
At her words, her heart stopped for a couple of seconds. That was the first time she had said it. Wife. Wow. Lilith was going to be someone’s wife. The thought had her chuckling nervously and she gave Raymond an awkward smile.
“What is it?” his eyebrows scrunched and he turned in his chair to face her.
“Nothing.” she laughed. “I’m just happy that you’re putting so much effort into this even though you don’t need to. You and your mother seem to want to drain this country of money with all the things you want to happen on our wedding day.”
“This is actually something that I am looking forward to. My coronation will be nothing compared to this. It will be known as the most expensive and biggest wedding in the history of this country.”
“This definitely is not like you,” Lilith said. “But I’m not complaining. Just don’t go too crazy. Explosives are off-limits.”
“If that’s where the bar is, I’m sure I can manage.”
If this was the modern-day, Lilith could not even imagine what he would do then. Fireworks, holograms, and airplanes, he would do it all. He would be the millionaire and she would be the commoner that he was showing his love to, through his money.
April tenth was the date that was chosen and sooner than Lilith needed, the day came. She didn’t really have any friends, and neither did Raymond, so there were no bachelor or bachelorette parties before the wedding. But the two of them talked about a lot of things in order to prepare themselves. Expectations of married life and how they wanted their relationship to look. Raymond was ready to accommodate Lilith in everything she asked for and Lilith just wanted to make Raymond’s life easier.
Lilith was ready to pull her weight when she married him. She was determined to make Creona the country that it was capable of being. With her in power, she would make sure that the country flourished tenfold than when Landon was there. It would be the undiscovered powerhouse of the world.
Her wedding day started away from Raymond. Sometimes she would sleep with him in his room but she was not supposed to do that the day before the wedding and so she was sent to his manor to spend the night. He made sure to send a million guards with her to make sure that no one tried anything like last time.
He would stay in the castle and get ready there. They would both arrive at the cathedral separately and give the public a good look at them before they were married, and then after, they would leave together. Lilith didn’t see the point and knew that if she was just a mere citizen, she would not care one bit and not subject herself to sore feet just to see someone.
Lilith would be put in her wedding dress at the cathedral but her hair and makeup would be done before she left the house. She would be wearing a white dress, but nothing as grand as the one she would wear when she got married. She had not seen the dress yet. Her measurements were taken and that was about as much input she had into the type of dress she was wearing. It was Nora who had it made.
“Just because you are marrying my son does not mean that I approve of this.” Nora walked up to her with a huge box in her hands.
They were in a room in the cathedral putting the finishing touches on Lilith, like the dress.
“I know.” She looked at her through the mirror. The urge to call her mother-in-law was driving Lilith crazy but she helped herself back. She really did not need to piss off Nora more than she already was.
“Here’s the dress.”
Lilith turned around and took the box from Nora. It was a lot heavier than she imagined and she gently placed it on the vanity.
“I will be walking you down the aisle since you do not have anyone to do it for you,” she said as if it pained her to get the words out.
“Yeah… my parents…” Another thing that she didn’t have control over in her wedding. What she would give to have her family here. They were missing her big day. There was nothing she could do about that.
“Anyway,” Nora waved her hand as if to clear the room of the melancholy mood. “Try on the dress. The seamstress is over there in case anything needs to be adjusted.” She pointed to the woman that stood a couple of meters away from them with a case in her hands.
The wedding dress was way bigger than Lilith imagined. The box Nora gave her was only the first piece and there were other things that needed to be attached. It was the basic ball gown shape, but there were a lot of layers to the dress. The trail had one layer of silk and then mesh and it stretched a couple of meters behind her. There were concentrated jewels on the bodice and became more sparse as it went into the gown.
“You look nice,” Nora said, glancing up and down at her.
Lilith could not believe how the dress looked on her. She did not really recognize herself at first but the more she stared at herself in the mirror the more she loved it. Her hair fell over her shoulders in waves and was adorned with little jewels and white flowers. This was what Lilith was wearing to get married.
“I think it’s gorgeous. The dress is amazing.” she gently soothed her hand over it.
“Well yes, of course, it’s gorgeous. Maybe with this on, people can forget for a moment that you’re a mere servant.” she quipped.
Lilith smiled. “Yeah maybe. But this isn’t about them, it’s about Raymond and me.”
