A piece of cake!

"That can't be right."

"Hmmm...was it supposed to look like a deflated football?" Natalie asked. We had just finished baking a vanilla sponge cake, but I wasn't quite sure about the 'cake' in the whole thing.

I looked at the cake the YouTuber had baked and looked at the one Natalie and I just finished baking. It definitely looked nothing close to the fluffy vanilla sponge cake she was showcasing with pride.

"Maybe it needs to cool down a bit?" Natalie suggested. It was still hot out of the oven.

I laughed, "Definitely not. Let's just agree we messed up." "And here I was, proudly bragging about how my nana taught me how to bake ages ago." I added with a disappointed hand on my face.

"Maybe Nana's famous recipe wasn't supposed to be straight out of a YouTube video?"

I laughed again, "Well, what are we going to do with the cake?"

"Throw it away, I guess." Natalie replied.

"Hmmmm. I think I have a better idea." I said and drew close to Natalie, whispering into her ears.

Her eyes grew big, she exclaimed and giggled, "I think it's a wonderful idea!"

"I think it is!"

"I want cake, momy!" Kira said. She had been out of her stroller for a while, deciding to glue her hands around her mother's calves.

"No, kira. You can't eat that...I think there should be some cake in the pantry." She said, "Come, come, we'll go get some for you."

She held Kira's hand and the two walked side by side to the pantry, while I remained in the kitchen, thinking about what to do with the deflated football sitting in front of me.

The day rolled up fast and the excited chattering of little girls told me it was already evening, "I will just leave you to finish up then, Debbie." I said to the cook before walking out of the kitchen. I had decided to stay behind and help with the cooking because, honestly, cooking was a hobby for me (Definitely not baking, of course!) I earned looks from the kitchen staff who were surprised by my presence in the kitchen. However, after a while, everyone got comfortable and we cooked joyously together.

"And don't forget dessert, Sharon."

"Yes madam, I'll get it ready immediately." The young maid replied and hastened cleaning up the dishes.

I passed the empty dinner table which would soon be occupied a few hours from now and made my way to the stairs. The two besties had finished their little gossip and no longer occupied the seats in the living room. I made my way upstairs and walked into my bedroom. The room was empty.

"I thought Darcy would have come in already." I thought aloud. Maybe she was spending time with her sister, Anna. I didn't think it was a good idea to hang out with Ella's daughter at home. Of course Anna and Darcy were only just kids, but I was sure that Ella was a crazy woman.

I made a turn towards the door, deciding to go fetch my daughter from her sister. A sound came from behind me and I yelled in fear and leapt in the air.

"I scared you, mommy!" Darcy said, bursting into laughter.

I was amazed. She had indeed scared me. However, I feigned a frown and pressed my palm against my chest, "Darcy, who taught you to scare your mother like that?" "I thought you were a ghost!"

Darcy laughed childishly, "There's no ghost mommy, you told me so."

"I did, didn't I? But you did so well that I thought that I was wrong."

My remarks couldn't have swelled Darcy's head more, "Anna taught me how to make ghosty voices."

"Oh, your sister. How is she?" I asked.

"Fun!!!" She replied and shot her hands into the air, "I love my big sister."

I smiled at what she had just said. It was good that her spending time with Anna took her mind off her old school. I had feared that she was going to have a hard time changing to a different school.

"But mommy, I thought only you and daddy could give me a sister. Why is Anna's mommy different?" She asked, taking me off guard.

"Uhmm...the thing is…" I tried to find an explanation she could understand but my head went completely blank.

"Hmmm...I guess Darcy is very lucky because God gave her 2 mo...no...4 mommies then."

"4 mommies?" Darcy gasped in shock. The look on her face resembled a little blonde girl who had just been told that her hair was golden.

"Yayyyyyy!" She broke into a triumphant cheer, "I have 4 mommies!"

I knelt down and kissed her forehead, "Yes baby. You have 4 mommies."

"Now, let's get you freshen up in time for dinner, okay?" I said, raising up to my feet. She skipped happily beside me as we walked into the closet. If only she knew that having so many women to call her mom was actually a problem and not a blessing. But she was so happy in her childish ignorance.

Dinner was served; an array of salads, macaroni and cheese, creamy spaghetti and plain spaghetti and spaghetti sauce (to choose from), rice smothered in gravy, chicken breasts, meat loaf smeared in barbeque sauce, mashed potatoes, Shakshuka, and a lot more dishes and delicacies. I felt so hungry surveying all the food on the table that I was sure that I could devour it all!

"Talk about classlessness." Stacy remarked when she saw me gawping at the dinner table. I ignored her and took my usual place at the table. Damien Jaeger had not arrived at the table yet. But there was another person- A girl, almost the same age as Ella's daughter; Anna, or a year older at most, sitting next to Stacy. I needn't be told that it was her daughter for she had her mother's blue eyes which she dug into me curiously.
I puffed a breath. There were so many kids in this house.

I was yet to take dessert when I excused myself to the bathroom. I returned and found a maid serving dessert. My eyebrows drew into a frown,

"Didn't I ask for that, Sharon?"

"And I asked her to serve it to me!" Ella spat, spitefully, "You have a problem with that?" Her eyes were daring and mocking.

I decided not to push any further and returned to my seat. The kids were having the strawberry crunch ice cream bites. It looked tempting.

Stacy asked to be served the same dessert as Ella with a menacing look on her face which turned to disgust when Ella sprayed the food in her mouth all over her face.

"What the heck, man?!" Stacy yelled, her hands moving to wipe out the chewed up food on her face.

"It's...it's horrible!" Ella whined. Before she had time to say anything else, an angry Stacy picked up a bowl of creamy spaghetti and bashed it on Ella's face. The children cried in excitement.

Ella froze in shock, her face smeared in creamy spaghetti. What next? She grabbed the nearest thing she could find on the table and threw it at Stacy. Stacy was now bathed in gravy!

"Oh, it is on!" Stacy fired and stood to her feet, pulling a plate to fire back at Ella.

"Food fight!!!!!" Stacy's daughter yelled in excitement and rushed at the food in front of her.

"What the hell is going on here?!" A thick voice shook the entire table, bringing the commotion to a halt. I cleaned my victimised face and saw a furious Damien Jaeger, his eyes blazing with fire- And his face plastered with cream!
