Busy schedule

After lunch, Rachael, Ken and I headed back to Paradox and I said goodbye to Rachael on the ground floor while Ken and I took the elevator together.

"So how has the boss been treating you so far?"

"Not too bad, I guess. Just been on some paperwork. Nothing else."

"No planned meetings, no calls or unresponded emails, business trips?" Ken asked."

"No." I replied, "At least not yet."

"So you're just chilling." Ken laughed.

"If I haven't had a proper sleep last night because of paperwork is called 'chilling', then sure...I'm just chilling."

Ken sensed the sarcasm in my voice and raised his hand in surrender, "Hey, don't get offended. Look, I didn't mean it like, okay?"

"I'm sorry." He apologised and I nodded my head without saying anything else.

The elevator door opened, "See you around, Mélie." He said and stepped out of the elevator.

"Sure Ken, see you around."

I got out of the elevator and headed to my office. As I walked in, I was greeted by a surprise on my desk.

"Who ordered pizza?" I asked aloud, staring at the box. There was a large-sized bottle of cola beside it. I flipped the box open; It was my favourite, Pepperoni pizza.

Even though I was already full from the doughnuts I'd already eaten, I was still tempted to take a slice.

"Mmmmmh." I moaned in satisfaction as I devoured the slice of pizza in my hand.

Who could have sent it though?

It couldn't possibly be Rachael or Ken because we already had lunch together. Come to think of it, when I thanked Rachael for sending me lunch yesterday, she had acted completely clueless.
Or did the company offer free lunch to workers?

The office phone rang, interrupting my thoughts. It was the first time it ever rang. I answered and placed it against my ear, "Hello?"

"Mélie Shapman, report to my office immediately." And the line went dead. It was Damien Jaeger.

I hurried out of my office and headed to his. His office was the only office room on the top floor, right next to the 'VIP conference' room. I stopped in front of the large door and pounded my knuckles against it.

"Come in." He said and I allowed myself into his office.

He stared at me as I walked up to his table and I dropped my eyelids to avoid staring back at him lest I turn red from blushing.

"You asked to see me?" I asked, stopping in front of his desk.

He eyed me again before moving his eyes to his laptop, "I did."

"I noticed that you don't have my schedule. You also don't have access to my mails and calls. You're supposed to be in charge of that."

"Oh." I exclaimed.

"And how far have you gone with sorting the files."

I cleared my throat. I still had a long way to go, "A considerable amount."

He punched on his keyboard for some time and I found myself fiddling with my fingers. When he looked at me, I quickly separated them.

"Had lunch yet?" He asked.

"Uhm, yeah." I replied and he nodded.

"Grab your laptop then and be here in 5."

I turned without a word and headed back to my office. My box of pizza called out to me as I walked in and I couldn't help but have another slice. This one was to relieve the tension. The pizza was just too good!

'Head back to Damien Jaeger's office, you idiot!' The tiny voice in my head snapped and I quickly picked my laptop and dashed out of my office.

Standing beside Damien Jaeger and leaning towards the desk as I punched into my keyboard felt completely out of the ordinary and when his shoulder brushed against mine, I felt a surge of electricity running through my body.

"Are you okay, Mélie?" He asked.

I bit my lips and cussed inwardly, "I'm fine."

He nodded, "I'm guessing that is all for now. I still have unresponded emails and incoming calls."

"You can go through my schedules and remind me of my meetings...I never forget them, but since it's your duty as my PA, you'll still have to keep me updated." He sounded so professional, yet so animated.

I stared at him in awe, having never heard these many words coming out of a Damien Jaeger all at once before . His voice was alluring and I didn't mind hearing it forever.

"That will be all. You may go." He said.

Why was I suddenly feeling this way each time I found myself around him? Wasn't I supposed to be hating him? What's going on, Mélie? The tiny voice in my head asked as I walked out of his office.

I don't know. Maybe ovulation?

'Ovulation. Lie, you little hypocrite!' It snapped at it.

I ignored it and headed back to my office where I continued working tirelessly for the rest of the day taking a spin of cola and some pizza every 30 minutes to keep me going. Eventually, I shut down my laptop with a satisfied smile on my face when it was time to close for the day.

When I headed to the ground floor, Rachael was packing up to close herself, "Someone didn't fall asleep today." She joked and I responded with a cheerful laugh.

"Some cold pizza kept me up." I joked. She didn't seem to understand what I said but she laughed regardless. After picking up her handbag, we walked out of the office together.

"So where do you stay?" She asked, "I go home with Ken, maybe we can drop you off?"

"That is if you don't have a car." She added.

I studied the parking lot for any signs of Gray. He was supposed to bring a car for me. There were a few cars still sitting in the parking lot and this made me grumble inwardly. I hadn't been specific on the car I wanted. Maybe it was one of the cars here, I couldn't tell.

"Thank you Rachael, but I'll be fine."

"Alright." A car honked impatiently from the parking lot and she turned towards it and yelled, "Jeez Ken, I'm coming!" This made me laugh and she laughed along with me.

"Ken is very impatient sometimes." "See you tomorrow then."

"See you." I replied and she walked to Ken's car. Shortly after, the car drove out of the parking lot and honked goodbye at me.

I was still contemplating the cars in the parking lot when a Porsche drove in and a familiar hand waved at me. I smiled as I walked up to the white Porsche. Gary stepped out of the car and opened the back door for me.

"I sincerely apologise for arriving late, madam. Sir told me to come pick you up myself since madam couldn't decide on a car."

"It's okay, Gray. Thanks for coming." I said, getting into the car. He closed the door before quickly returning to the driver's seat and we drove out of the parking lot.
