The fire alarm

The mirror reflected the image of a half dressed melancholic brunette. A pair of plumpy pink lips, a carved jawline with protruding cheekbones which sat under large eyes the colour of the desert. The large eyes were veiled by natural long eyelashes complimented by thick perfect eyebrows- yet her beauty looked dull against her solemn mood.

"What's wrong?" A man, almost twice her height asked. He lowered himself behind her and planted a kiss on her soft hair. A smile creeped on her face.

"Nothing!" She said. He doesn't seem to have believed her as he turned her to face him and she said goodbye to the woman trapped inside the mirror.

"Mélie."

"I'm fine."

Damien Jaeger looked at me keenly. His eyes pierced into mine and I lowered mine to the floor, "Is it because of what I told you?"

"I shouldn't have."

"No!" I protested. Deep breath, "Damien, it's right that you told me."

"Then what's wrong?"

I heaved another sigh. His stare was unbreaking and full of concern, "It's a really emotional story."

"I mean I didn't know that you…" I was saying when Damien Jaeger's large hand covered my mouth.

"You don't have to say anything, Mélie." He said, "That was my past."

"But you...you are my present now." "And you will be my future." He added with certainty.

"There's something I need to tell you." I said shortly after his hand fell to his side.

"What is it?"

Pim pim pim mm!

"Oh shit!" Damien Jaeger cussed.

"What is it?"

"Fire." He replied, making for the door, "Get dressed quickly. It might be serious!"

I scurried off to my remaining clothes and wore them as Damien Jaeger flung the door open. His long legs gave him the upper hand, making him ahead of me.

"The fire alarm went off so it shouldn't have caused too much damage." He said as we walked down to the first floor. Indeed it did as everywhere was wet and more sprinkles of water kept pouring from the ceiling, making it look like it was raining inside the mansion.

"Oh, it's terrible! It's simply terrible!" Someone kept crying from the kitchen. A repeated cough followed, "Simply terrible!" The voice continued.

"What happened here?" Damien Jaeger asked as he stormed into the kitchen.

I walked into the kitchen and almost immediately started coughing. Something had been burnt terribly and from the sharp smell, it was a spice.

"Talk!" Damien Jaeger barked.

The 2 workers in the kitchen stood apologetically, with frightened looks on their faces, "We are terribly sorry, Sir." The older lady spoke first.

"We sincerely apologise, sir." Came the other, "We were trying to preserve the fish but...but we…"

"You did it, Koko!" The older lady snapped, "I told you, you don't do it like this. I say you wait for me but you gone and do it anyway!"

The younger woman looked more afraid than ever at the truth being exposed, "I'm really sorry." She said, not daring to look at Damien Jaeger, "It's all my fault."

Damien Jaeger's lips thinned into a line as he glanced from the workers to the mess they had created; The cooker was burnt, the pot they had attempted to work with was as black as coal and whoever among them thought it was a good idea to drop it on the kitchen island? It left a nice brown patch the size of my fist- and yes, let's not forget that this triggered an indoor rain!

"Leave!" He said, his thick eyebrows meeting into a frown. The 2 ladies stormed out of the kitchen without a protest or further apology.

"You're not gonna fire them, are you?"

"Whatever did you think 'leave' meant? To remain in my house after burning my kitchen?" He asked, sarcastically.

"Damien, it was an accident and they apologised for it. You shouldn't fire them."

"I hired them so I can fire them as well."

"Damien!" I whined, walking up to stop in front of him. My fingers cuddled his perfect jawline, "Do it for me, please?"

"My friendly giant." I pleaded in a pathetically childish voice.

One of his eyebrows arched up, "What did you call me?" He asked through smirking lips.

"You're my friendly giant. My life-sized teddy bear!"

Damien Jaeger chuckled, "I'm not a teddy bear."

I gasped, "Do you know how snuggly you are?" "So snuggly!" I added for emphasis.

This time, he laughed, "Fine. I'll let this one go." "But only because of you."

A grin broke from my left ear to my right one, "Really?" "Thank you very much!"

"Very snuggly." I said, cuddled up in his broad chest.

"Weeeeeeeeee!" An excited voice cried from the living room. Damien Jaeger and I threw each other a look and walked out of the kitchen.

"Darcy, what are you doing?" I blurted out as we arrived at the living room.

"What does she look like she's doing?" Damien Jaeger asked. In the wet living room still sprinkled with water, Darcy was energetically dancing, all soaked up from head to toe with water.

"Mommy, daddy it's raining in the house!" She cried in delight, "It's magic!"

"How is it raining in the house mommy? It's magic!" She kept saying.

I frowned at her words, "Darcy, It's not magic. And you stop that right now or you're going to catch a cold!"

"Hey." Damien Jaeger held my arm as I tried to stop Darcy, "Let her play."

"But she'll fall sick!" I grumbled.

"She'll be fine." Damien Jaeger said, calmly, "And she's right."

"I mean just look around. Kinda magical if you ask me." I stared at him for a while in surprise. Where was the sarcasm when I needed it?

Slowly, I surveyed the entire living room. The marble walls were wet and sparking and the little decorative jewels shined against the touch of the artificial rain and light. More water kept pouring against the ceiling and chandeliers swang to and fro like lighting against the sky.

"It's...magic." I remarked, a smile finally creeping into my face.

"Told you!" Darcy cried, still jumping vigorously with bliss.

"Wanna dance in the rain?" Damien Jaeger asked beside me. I looked at him with arched brows, "Come on, it'll be fun...m'lady."

"Sure...monsieur!" I said with a giggle and he took my tiny palms into his, swaying me to and fro in what I suspect was supposed to be a waltz.

"You're a terrible dancer, Damien Jaeger!" I remarked. He simply chuckled without saying a word but his eyes spoke as he danced, refusing to break away from mine and I succumbed to them in silence. They always hypnotise me- those hazel eyes of his!
