A dream come true

"Cat got your tongue?" Damien Jaeger asked after a deadly silence.

Stacy swallowed. Ella whimpered.

"You thought I wouldn't find out about your little lie?" He asked again. "Answer me!" He barked in anger.

"Da-Damien...I…" Stacy tried to speak but couldn't find her words.

A glare at Ella and she tried to mumble an explanation.

"Get out." Damien Jaeger said with a shocking calm voice. Stacy and Ella stared at each other in confusion.

He sighed, "I do not like repeating myself."

"I said get out of my house!" He roared and the guilty women bolted out of the room, pale as snow.

An intense silence followed which was eventually interrupted by a nervous clearing of the throat by Natalie. All eyes turned to meet her, "I guess I should leave then." She announced and rose to her feet.

Damien Jaeger didn't object. She got up in silence and headed to the door. "Natalie." I said, holding her wrist to stop her from walking out of the room.

She gave me a curious stare then giggled lightly, "Mélie."

"You've been a really great friend, Nat. Thank you." I rose to my feet and squeezed her into a hug.

She laughed a more light laugh, "When did you start calling me that?"

"Today." I said into her neck.

We broke off the hug and Damien Jaeger said in a voice of vanquished anger, "You can stay here, Natalie."

They eyed each other for a while with understanding expressions. Then Natalie turned her gaze to me, "Nahhhh."

"You guys need your space." "Even though the house is the biggest thing ever." She added with a chuckle.

I squeezed her hand lightly. She smiled and turned back to Damien Jaeger, "Can your driver take me back, please?"

"Sure."

"Thanks. I'm still allowed to visit, right?"

Damien Jaeger looked at me as if he was waiting for my approval. My heart fluttered and my eyes watered. This had to be the most beautiful simple gesture he'd ever done; Asking for consent from his...wife.

I blushed, "Anytime." "You're welcome to come whenever, for how long you want."

"So we're besties." She declared with a grin.

I nodded with a grin that matched hers, "We are!"

Another hug followed. This one was warmer and longer.

"Good night." She said and walked out of the private living room.

Damien Jaeger walked up to me in slow, composed steps, "You good?"

"Why won't I be?"

He lowered his nose to my hair and sniffed it. This was a habit he had just started doing and it was one that I was quickly getting fond of.

"I love you, Mélie." He said in a husky voice.

I stared deep into his eyes. They were shadowed under his thick, short lashes, "I love you, Damien Jaeger."

A chuckle, "Why do you address me by my full name?" He asked, curiously.

Why did I do that? I had no idea.

"It seems complete I guess." I said, trying to make sense out of my thoughts, "Just Damien wouldn't look good on you."

"Hmmmm...don't you think that everything looks good on me?" He teased and I felt his teeth nib my earlobe.

"Ouch, Damiennnnnn!" I grumbled and he laughed.

"See?"

I had to laugh, "What's your point?"

He pulled away from me and shrugged his shoulders, "Let's go to bed, Mélie. It's getting late."

"Sure." I said and started walking away before he slid his fingers into mine.

We arrived at the living room and found Stacy and Ella with tense, anxious faces, holding on to their luggage with their daughters beside them.

Damien Jaeger frowned and I quickly squeezed his fingers to stop him from saying anything spiteful in front of the children. We strode past them and their eyes dug into our backs as we made our way upstairs.

"Damien." Stacy called and Damien Jaeger halted. I stopped beside him, "I'm really sorry, Damien." "For everything." She added with a melancholic tone.

Was she expecting a reaction from him? He didn't give her any and dragged my hand and we vanished into the hallway.

"Can I ask something of you, Mélie?" He asked after we had walked past a few doors.

"Sure." I replied, regardless of having no idea of what he wanted.

He nodded but said nothing and we continued walking in silence. This confused me and I had to say, "What did you want to ask, Damien Jaeger?"

We stopped in front of the door of my room and Damien Jaeger pushed the door open and surprised me by walking in. The only other time he had entered the room was when he came to meet me on the balcony.

"Coming?" He asked, already inside the bedroom. I quickly stepped in and closed the door behind me.

"Can I stay here tonight?"

"What?" I was baffled.

Damien Jaeger didn't like repeating himself. But he did, "Can I stay with my Queen and our little princess?"

I looked at him and then at Darcy who was very fast asleep. My lips curled into a smile, "Sure, you can."

Damien Jaeger walked to the edge of the bed and sat down, fixing his gaze on Darcy. I walked to the bed and sat beside him, "I'm gonna be a better father for her." He declared. His hand explored Darcy's hair with cautious strokes.

"I'm sure you will." I whispered and rested my head on his back.

My eyes slowly got heavy. Damien Jaeger moved and I removed my head from his back to stare at him with sleepy eyes. He chuckled and rose to his feet.

Was he going to leave? My lips parted open to object. But instead of leaving, he dragged me by the hand and slowly adjusted me beside Darcy before walking to the other side of the bed where he installed himself beside Darcy.

My eyes could not leave his. They seemed to be hypnotising me again. He smiled his angelic smile, "Good night."

"Good night." I said but we continued staring at each other. Eventually, nature had its way and I drifted off to sleep, but my dreams had become a reality.
