Undercover
"Wait...I don't understand. Just what the heck is going on?"
"You'll soon find out." Damien Jaeger said.
"Tania Van...Rawlins Barfield." Lizzy Gold said, "You can step out, you've been caught!"
Not a single soul moved.
She walked briskly to the staff, "Everyone knows you as Mary and Jeff."
"But no one knows that you two are in fact spies, sent by rival companies to sabotage Paradox." Everyone gasped as the two culprits stepped forward with heads bowing down with guilt, "At least not until now, they didn't!"
"I guess you will soon join Rachael in the police station? Or should I say Anna Moore!" Lizzy Gold added with a cunning smirk at the side of her face. Her sharp eyes pierced into the culprits.
Who could have thought they were spies? I thought silently. Although I barely noticed them, I had seen them once or twice, mingling amongst the rest of the staff with looks that spelled diligence and determination and a passion for their jobs.
The door creaked open and the company security strode in, "Take them away." Damien Jaeger instructed and the security vanished into the passageway with the spies.
He cleared his throat, "Dismissed." He said and the rest of the staff vanished, leaving just me, Lizzy Gold and himself in the room.
"The name's Sandra Roberts." Lizzy Gold said, stretching out her hand for a handshake, "Private detective."
"What?" My eyes bulged in yet another state of surprise.
"Yh, you probably heard something about me being here to steal your man?" She asked teasingly and I looked away from her with embarrassed eyes.
Damien Jaeger chuckled, "Sandra Roberts is an expert in such cases. All the people involved in those scandalous rumours are simply people she's worked with."
"Hmmm." Lizzy Gold- I mean Sandra Roberts said with a laugh, "I mean it's not my fault I get paid heavily for my services to millionaires and billionaires, right?"
"Sometime before July, I noticed a few glitches with the company figures but when I gathered the team and discussed the problem, it suddenly seemed to have vanished into thin air." Damien Jaeger started, "In fact, Paradox looked like it was doing very well!"
"Anyone else would have let their guard down after this and probably thought that they miscalculated everything, but I was sure that my mind was not foggy." "And so I decided to carry out further investigations."
"That's when Sandra Roberts came in." He added, "We soon found out that the company was in fact losing millions of dollars in the space of a few months."
"She only came to work here in order to fish out those responsible for the sabotage." Damien Jaeger added, concluding his story.
"So you're not his secretary?" I asked.
"Nope." Sandra Roberts replied casually.
"Wow!" I exclaimed after a brief silence, trying to digest everything that I had just found out,"Okay, this whole thing is just crazy!"
"I should get going then." Sandra Roberts said. Damien Jaeger nodded without saying a word.
"It was nice knowing you all." She said to me and strode out of the conference hall without waiting for a reply.
"But why didn't you tell me anything, Damien Jaeger?" I asked after another moment of silence.
"Because, I didn't want you to panic. I couldn't burden you with such problems.
"It wouldn't have been a burden, Damien Jaeger." I said, "But it's fine."
Damien Jaeger walked up to me and placed his hands on my shoulders, "Wait, was making me CEO all part of your plan? To make the spies slack off?" I inquired.
"No." Damien Jaeger replied, "I made you CEO because I trust you. And I know that you are very capable of running the company."
His index finger pulled my chin and I looked up to meet him, "Are you mad?" He asked.
I puffed a breath, "No."
There was no reason for me to. In all honesty, I would have probably gotten in the way of the investigation.
A smirk appeared on the side of his face, "There's something tempting about you today in this white outfit of yours."
I blushed, realising that the buttons of my trench coat had come undone and the white dress revealed itself, wrapping perfectly around my curves.
Damien Jaeger lowered his head and his lips met mine in a passionate kiss, "You make me crazy, Mélie!" His raspy voice said in between kisses.
I'm obsessed with you, Damien Jaeger! My inside voice screamed, hindered from speaking by my own shameless groans.
~
"What?!" My voice broke in disbelief as I stared at Damien Jaeger.
"Did you just say we're going to paris?"
"Yes." Damien Jaeger replied, "You don't like paris?"
"Who are you kidding, I love paris!" I exclaimed, "It's like my favourite city in the world!"
"Been to Paris before?"
"In my dreams!" I replied with such hilarity that Damien Jaeger burst into laughter.
"I have a relative there; my mother's sister. I want you to meet her."
"Oh. That's wonderful!" I remarked, "You never told me anything about having another family member ."
He chuckled, "You never asked."
"But you'll meet her soon." He added and took a bite of his pork.
"Baby, would you like to go to Paris to see grandma?" I asked, turning to Darcy who had been struggling with a piece of meatloaf.
"I have a grandma?!" She asked, eyes already filled with excitement.
"Yayyyyy, I'm gonna go see my grandma!" She exclaimed when I told her that she did in fact have a grandmother.
Damien Jaeger watched her as she celebrated her new discovery. She was the cutest little soul in the entire universe.
His hand moved to mine which was just beside him on the dining table, "Thank you." He said.
"For what?"
"For everything." He replied, "For giving me a chance in your life. For giving me a family. Just thank you."
My eyes teared up with those words, "I love you, Damien."
"I love you too." He replied. I couldn't be more grateful, knowing that he meant every word that he spoke.
"Thank you too." I said, staring back at him with eyes filled with love.
