A disturbed mind
Lucifer's POV
I sat on the couch rubbing my aching neck the next morning. I was not fully awake yet due to the fact that I had a very uncomfortable and sleepless night.
I had slept on the couch due to my anger towards Ash, and now I was regretting it. Maybe I should not have gone to sleep while still upset with her but, I just could not believe what she had come up with just for me to look past her mistake.
Steel too had added to my sleepless night with his talks and anger toward me. I was glad he finally kept quiet this morning.
"Did you sleep on the couch?" I heard Celine's voice and looked up to see her standing behind a couch opposite me.
I groaned. "Yeah, I did," I said to her.
"On your wedding night?" She asked raising a brow.
I frowned at her. "Are you here to mock me or say something better?" I asked her. I was not in the big mood for taunts or teasing. She knew very well I did not get married yesterday.
"Why would I mock you Lucifer? You claim she's your mate and she claims she does not need a wedding to be yours, so I'm confused here. If your wedding did not take place, it does not stop you both from being together init?" She asked raising a brow.
I stared at her. "No, it does not," I said. I would not give her the satisfaction of rubbing salt in my wounds in peace.
She shrugged. She had expected a different answer.
She cleared her throat. "Yes it does not but still Lucifer, can you not see the clear handwriting on the wall?" She said.
"What are you insinuating Celine?" I asked her.
She moved away from the couch and advanced toward me. "The clear handwriting that Ashlyn is not in love with you as she claims. Open your eyes to the one who truly cares for you." She said and crouched before me placing her hand on my cheek. "I love you Lucifer, can you not see that? I love you more than Ashlyn would ever do." She said to me.
I dropped her hand away from my face. "I can doubt anything in this life but not Ashlyn's love for me," I said to her looking directly into her eyes to ensure my words register in her head and she should leave me the hell alone.
She stood to he r feet flaring up. "And last night? What about last night? If she did love you why did she leave you all alone on the altar? Why did she not wait a bit before running off in such a manner? and making you look like a fool in front of everyone." She said in anger.
"My personal life is none of your business Celine," I said through gritted teeth.
"It is my business Lucifer. If you've thrown what we had and shared out the window, I have not. I'll still remain your sweet little Celine." She said and it hit a memory as she said so.
I stood up from the couch. "It does strike a memory init?" She asked me.
I stared at her for a few fleeting seconds and walked away. I had not the strength to delve back into the past.
I mounted the stairs and walked in the direction of my room. I half expected Ashlyn to be there but when I got in, I was a little disappointed.
I walked out of the room towards hers and took a deep breath. Till now she still had me shaking to my knees despite being upset with her.
I gently opened her door and found her sleeping peacefully on the bed. I frowned at the sight before me.
How could she be sleeping so peacefully while I had a sleepless night and a troubled mind? I closed the door. Maybe she was not affected by this as much as I was. Maybe she did not care in the ways that I did and here I was to have fallen head over heels in love with her.
"You're letting what Celine said earlier on get in your head." Steel hissed at me as I walked towards my room.
"I'm not." I retorted.
"You are. She does care for you and me Helldog. You're just still upset about last night." He said to me.
"Should I not be?" I asked him as I opened the door to my room undoing the buttons of my shirt.
"You should understand her." Steel said.
"Whose side are you on Steel?" I asked him.
"The right side Helldog." He said.
"You're in my body Steel and not hers. You should not be going against me." I said to him.
"I am not," he hissed out in frustration. "This is all Celine's fault. This is why I did not like her from the beginning." He hissed again and retreated to his hole.
I threw my head back and groaned. Steel never liked Celine despite her being a werewolf. I was the one who felt the attraction toward her. I groaned again. Maybe I should really have a talk with Ashlyn. I was not feeling any good having not been on good terms with her. Hell, what am I saying? I was losing it. Turns out she was my fundamental weakness.
Ashlyn's POV
I saw the door open and immediately closed my eyes back. I knew he was the one. Only his presence had an elemental effect on me. I could tell it was him from a distance.
The door closed back as gently as it was opened before and I opened my eyes.
I did not want him to see me awake and notice the bags around my eyes. I had literally cried myself to sleep but still, I did not find comfort in the sleep I had sought for.
I slowly climbed down from the bed, standing up and stretching my weak body. I stood by the window and the sunlight filtered upon my skin. I stared down at my daylight ring sitting idly on my finger. If not for it, I might just have erupted into flames and become ashes.
I began to think of ways to prove that my wedding dress actually had the smell of blood which was a spell cast by a witch I was very sure of it. But who had access to the dress?
I only got to lay eyes on the dress when Roselia brought it in for me to wear but I trusted Roselia. She'd never do something like this. Never.
Just then the door opened and I turned around to see who walked in and I saw Roselia.
"Good morning milady." She said.
"Good morning Roselia. How're you doing today?" I asked her.
"Honestly milady, I'm not alright." She said coming closer to me.
I raised a brow. "Why?" I asked her.
"My heart bleeds to have seen what happened last night. It should not have been so. This wedding was not supposed to be forgotten in the history of the Nightwing pack." She said.
Indeed it would not, I thought to myself. Everyone will remember the Laird's bride running out on him while the marriage rites were still in procession. History will definitely remember this.
I sighed. "Roselia, who made the dress?" I asked her.
She stared at me startled a bit by my question. "The finest dressmaker of Glasgow of course." She said to me.
This proved quite difficult. The dressmaker would not know the Laird's bride was a vampire or would she? I pondered. I was lost in thoughts that I did not know Roselia was talking to me.
"Milady?" She said shaking me gently and that was when I realized I was being spoken to.
"Yes?" I asked her.
"What is it?" She asked me.
I shook my head. "It's nothing," I said. I did not want her looking at me like I was crazy just as Lucifer did last night. "But tell me, Roselia, did you hand the dress to anyone? Did anyone aside from you touch the dress while it was in your custody?" I asked her.
She narrowed her eyes as she tried to think. Then she shook her head. "None that I can remember. Is there a problem?" She asked.
I shook my head again.
She nodded. "Just know that if you want to talk to someone, I'm here." She said patting my hand and I nodded.
She smiled and walked away. I walked towards the bathroom. I just wanted to just lay in the bathtub till one hundred years has passed away.
