Chapter Fifteen
Lexi:
Have you ever felt so scared, that everything around you disappears and the only thing that matters is what is most important?
I felt that same fear when Eli linked me, saying Mei was missing. Milly was quick checking with Damian to see if Mei had been that way.
Nothing.
Argo and Aki were pacing at a rate that it made me dizzy with nausea.
“Lexi?” Milly shouted snapping her fingers in front of my face as I stood frozen in place like a stone statue.
“Sorry Baby, I can’t lose her.” I huffed slowly as she rubbed my arms looking at me with those soft brown eyes of hers’, that now had brighter flecks of jade laced gently against the brown.
“Baby, I understand completely. I feel that way about Damian.” Milly responded sweetly as she replied to a text that vibrated loudly in her hand.
“Damian is heading down with a few of his elites.” Milly laughed softly as she spun quickly heading out the back door.
“Where do you think you are going?” I asked coyly as I ran up behind her trying to scoop her into my arms.
“I am going to go look around the lake for Mei. I know a few spots that are perfect to collect thoughts in peace.” Milly smiled brightly at me as she was slowly edging the tree line.
“Lexi?” Eli linked with a brighter tone.
“Yeah?” I replied quickly holding my finger up to Milly to stop for a second.
“Jack found Mei, but also a rogue. Meet me at the river edge by the old willow.” Eli replied as I felt the fear flood from my body turning quickly into anger.
Growling darkly as I shifted my weight on my heel turning east to head to the old willow.
“They found her.” Milly exhaled as she relaxed slightly against the dark shadows of the tree line.
“Yeah. Jack found her along with a rogue. Go meet up with Damian at the border. Be careful.” I laughed softly knowing Milly could handle herself.
Gently brushing my lips across her cheek as I scooped her into my arms, planting a deep heated kiss to keep her on edge until later.
“Only you can turn me on and piss me off at the same time.” She growled lowly as she shifted quickly in a horny pregnant haze.
“Go.” Milly commanded sternly as she disappeared into the shadowed tree line of the darkness.
Turning swiftly on my heel, shifting mid-stride, pounding the cool moist ground under my paws as I headed for the old willow. The name does it no justice at all.
Old, yes, but majestic the way it sits peacefully against the bayou and swampy river. It acts like a lighthouse siting along the rocky shores, guiding the lost into the safety of the light.
“Lexi!” Max and Seth both shouted as I approached the willow, watching them both shifting following behind Eli in Kade’s large gray wolf form.
“She was at the cabin. Derek and his Beta Sam are on their way now.” Eli linked as we pounded the soft river edge, mud flinging into the air like it was frozen mid-air before dropping back down to the earth as we sprinted full speed towards the cabin.
“Everyone okay?” I asked as we jumped over several fallen trees and debris scattered along the river edge.
“I just know Jack found her, and there was a rogue.” Eli responded as he pushed his nose into the air sniffing as we approached the wooded area surrounding the cabin.
Slipping through the shadows, scanning the surroundings as we approached the tree line, spotting Jack, Derek, and Mei examining the bloody body of a male. Max shifting, stepping on a twig sending everyone into a protective stance as Eli emerged from the tree line.
“Clumsy Damn Bear.” Argo and Aki both growled laughed.
I stood in awe as I drifted into a daze staring at the Haunting Moon, seductively hugging the dark casted sky. The Moon casting its haunting reflection across the black glass like water of the lake.
“Protect her.” A soft female voice echoed eerily through the dark bayou air.
“Who’s there?” I asked as I looked around, noticing it was only me standing at the edge of the lake, staring into the seductive moonlight.
“The time will come when I reveal myself to you.” The female spoke softly almost motherly.
“This is bullshit.” I whispered yelled at the lake, scanning the darkened night highlighted by the moon’s gentle touch of illumination.
“You are just as bad as your sister. I came to warn you just like Mei.” The female voice laughed softly as I rolled my eyes at her comment about being like Mei.
“A warning, what’s going to happen?” I questioned as my eyes darted around the softly illuminated lake.
“A life for a life, an unseen evil has emerged.” The female voice spoke with a tone of urgency.
“What do you mean, life for a life?” I asked feeling panicked at this statement.
“Just that my sweet child. Protect her.” The female voice responded as the eerie sounds of the night rushed back into my ears.
Scanning quickly again, noticing I was no longer at the lake edge, but standing along the tree line as Eli helped Max and Sam drag the bloody body, tossing it into the raging bon fire that danced seductively against the darkness of night.
“Lexi you okay?” Seth linked as we stood silently watching the flames dance high into the night sky.
“Yeah. Just admiring the lake.” I replied looking up to the moon hug gently against the dark blanket of the sky, thinking silently of the females warning.
“It’s a magical place.” Seth laughed softly as Eli and Max caught our attention following behind Jack and Mei shifting heading back to the house.
Kyou’s fur had changed again into a softer hue of silvery-white, swiftly gliding through the air as she jumped gracefully over fallen trees and debris.
“Lexi?” Milly linked with a soft giggle.
“We are heading back now.” I replied as we pushed harder against the moist ground.
“Okay. Damian and his elites are at the house now.” Milly replied as the house came into view as we approached from the bayou tree cover.
“Okay. We just arrived.” I replied as we shifted quickly, grabbing shorts and t-shirts from the storage shed.
“Meet back in four hours. We have a busy day ahead with a little mud involved.” Jack laughed as he scooped Mei in his arms disappearing into the house.
“Bunch of horny wolves.” Argo laughed darkly as Aki spun in a circle wagging his tail.
