Forty-Five

It was music to my ears, and I couldn’t wait to put my hands, better yet, my teeth, into the men who dared to threaten my Alizandra. I kissed her on the lips, and I was out of her sight in a matter of seconds, dodging trees in the woods, reaching the first one crouched behind a thick tree trunk.
He didn’t even notice me standing behind him. I gripped the man by the neck, raising him from the floor like a puppet. His blood pumping in his veins fast, calling it to me like a lullaby, soothing my senses as my mouth watered. My eyes flickered golden, and my demon took over. I got so upset with everything I just gave him free rein over me, and he knew how to have fun in situations like this one.
Before my prey could do anything, my teeth sharpened, and I bit on his neck, piercing his flesh without mercy, inflicting as much pain as I could, gulping down mouthfuls of the crimson, warm, coppery flavored liquid. I drank my fill, draining the bastard dried. His breathing became ragged with each gulp I took, and the squeaky sounds he made while his body convulsed in my embrace set my demon in a frenzied state of delight.
Once I drained him off, I licked his wound, and the telltale would disappear soon. I could regenerate myself with whatever I had in my system, and it worked on others as well. I let go of him, and he fell on my feet, pale as a ghost, lifeless.
The rush of power I felt was exhilarating, traveling through my veins, sustaining and regenerating every cell. The feeling was beyond words. I just wished one day I could survive without it. One more to go. Dragging the body with me closer to the house, I focused on the second guy. I used so much speed that he didn’t even see me coming. I had him trapped against a tree before he realised what was happening to him.
“Who the hell are you?” His voice trailed off, as his eyes were bulging out their sockets in terror.
“I’m the devil, and I came to collect your sins.” Growling low, my eyes glowed as I bore my pointy teeth at him. “I’ll give you a choice, and if you tell me what I want to know, you have a quick death. If not, your death will be slow and painful.”
“I don’t feel like dying today, please.” The man shook in my hands.
“But you will, and how is going to happen, it’s up to you.” I raised him from the floor, his feet dangling in the air. “Who does Jack work for?”
“I don’t know.”
“That’s not the answer, let’s try again.” I got closer to his face. Canines lengthened, hissing like a snake. “Who does Jack work for?”
“What are you?” he asked in a shriek, staring at my teeth.
“You don’t want to know. Aren’t you forgetting my question?”
“I don’t know! But… but I know he is with someone from the department. Not our unit, though. The instructions come from high up in the agency.” He sighed, closing his eyes. His heart worked overtime, echoing in my ears.
“Why do they want her dead?”
“She has information that belongs to them.”
“Anything else you want to share?”
“She must stop looking for her family.”
“Where’s her family? Do you know about them?”
“I don’t know. I just follow orders. That’s all. I don’t have all the info!” He was being sincere. I could tell by his ragged breathing and the stink of fear all over his body.
“Fine, that’s enough.”
“So, you gonna let me live?”
“No!” Before he even blinked, my teeth tore his flesh, and his warm blood filled with adrenaline flowed to me, giving me a rush, a high, making my eyes glow even more.
I hated that, but the creature in me reveled in it. I could not get away from it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t. His heart worked overtime to pump the blood that it wasn’t there anymore. Slowing down with each passing moment made my demon even more satisfied. His body just stopped from the fight. One last spasm, and he was limp in my embrace. Just like I promised, quick.
Power flowed into my body, and I felt unbelievable strength. Closing his wound, I grabbed him and the other and dragged them farther away from her house, dumping them in the middle of the woods. With some luck, an animal would find them and finish with the task.
“It’s done!” I said to her once I came back to the house.
“Me too. I dismantled their little bugs, and everything we need is on the bike. On our way there, we give dad a heads up about going home. We have about two hours’ ride ahead of us, so let’s go.”
“Sorry, you must leave your house, dragă.” I hugged her, loving to feel her body against mine. She circled my waist, not before sliding her hands through my muscles, feeling them with her fingertips and locking behind my back in a tight hug, resting her head in the crook of my neck.
“Don’t be, Grizzly. It’s fine. I love this little house, but it served its purpose. I don’t have meaningful things here, and if everything works well, we can come back. We’re going up to the Catskills.” I had no clue where we were heading, so I nodded, and we went for the bike.
“Dragă, I’ll talk to Anton. Just ride, I’ll mind linking him.” She stared at me in awe.
“Wow, hold your horses right there! You two can use telepathy? That’s the reason you stared at each other with those poker faces at his shop?” She got upset again as I had forgotten she didn’t know about it. “You were discussing me! How dare you?”
“Liz, we had a lot to catch up, a century to be exact. I’m sorry, but I won’t lie to you. It will happen again as much as I need, so make peace with it.” Tiny blazes flashed in those lavenders. She wouldn’t take that so easily as her eyes promised retaliation, and I couldn’t wait for it. I love it when she gets all worked up. She was beautiful. Those eyes shooting daggers at me, all flushed up, with her hands resting on her hips. A merciless goddess.
“How could you keep this information from me?” She pushed me away, grabbing her helmet.
“It’s better we go at once. If you keep staring at me like this, we’re not going anywhere so soon, dragă.” I was right. Her pupils dilated as she flushed harder. A beautiful shade of dark pink painted her from neck to cheeks, and the lewd thoughts going on in her head were the same going in mine.
“Let’s go!” she barked, putting her helmet on, and I put mine sitting behind her. I was getting used to this bike of hers and to tell the truth, I quite liked it. Once we got to the road, I reached for Anton.
*Old friend, we got ambushed at Liz’s house.
Vlad? What do you mean by ambush?* Anton’s angry voice boomed through the link, startling me.
*Hold on, she is fine. Look, we’re going to a place called Catskills.
That’s my house, our house. I took her there to heal.
The people who are threatening her are from this agency she works for.* His loud sigh filled my head. *But that’s not all. A guy named Jack betrayed her. He is one of the people behind all these, and she went on a rampage against him. Have ever seen her eyes glow bright white like lightning bolts?* Anton was too quiet for my liking. *Anton?
No, Vlad. This is something new to me. Her powers are growing. I just don’t know why.* His tone was heavy with concern.
*I got rid of the two who stayed behind to spy on us. Someone high up wants her head for some information she got and because she’s looking for her family.
Shit!* That was the first cursing of a long list I heard coming from him. *I know nothing about this information she has, besides I didn’t know she was snooping around for her family.
The little weasel is hiding information from us.
Don’t tell her any of that. Let me call in some friends, and I’ll get back to you.* And like that, he left my mind.
