Forty-Six
The trip took about an hour and a half until a town called Kingston. I knew Liz was hungry, and she took us straight to a place she called diner. It was a pleasant restaurant, with black and white floors, cushions and chairs in bright red, and lots of writings, and strange canvas paintings all over the walls, but quite different from the ones I had seen before. We sat at an isolated table. I didn’t feel like eating anything, so Liz asked for some coffee for us, and eggs, bacon, and bread for her. The waves of her hunger beat at me. We had to flee without further notice, with no time for food.
“What powers do you have besides telepathy? I saw you, by the cameras, taking down the guys, and what I saw amazed me,” she asked, breaking the silence, and I held my breath, staring at her. It took me a few minutes to answer. Not that I needed to hide things from Liz, but it didn’t sit well with me, her seeing my true self. Besides, something didn’t sound right. I let go of the air trapped in my lungs.
“I can move at a top speed, so I can give long and high jumps. Besides, I have lots of strength. I’d crush things without meaning it in the beginning, just by holding them, but now it’s like a second skin to me.”
I tried to read her, but the little weasel has a poker face on. The only thing I could do for now was to fill her in about everything I was able to do, like pick up waves of energy from whoever was around, lure people and animals, and blow things away or draw them to me just like she did. The more I told her, the more my suspicion grew. A server came with the food and the conversation died down for a few instants. Liz dug in like a starved, and I just got a cup of coffee for myself once the girl left us alone again.
“Can you fly? Turn into a bat?” she asked between bites.
“I wish I could fly, and no! Where did you get that, why would I turn into a flying rat?” I asked her, outraged. “Why these weird questions?”
“You’re a vampire.” She lowered her voice. “It’s in the books, on the internet.”
“I don’t see myself as one and stop reading these books! They fill your head with nonsense. What’s the internet?” I stared at her quizzically.
“Fill my head with nonsense? Do you think this is normal?” She signaled us with her hands.
“You have a point there,” I said as I rolled my eyes.
“About the internet, it’s better if I show you when we get to the house. It will be easier than explaining it, but you’re gonna love it.” Her face intrigued me. She was up to something.
“Why all these questions now?” I narrowed my eyes at her.
“Nothing, out of curiosity. If you’re going to stick with me for eternity, I’d better know whom I’m dealing with, right?” She shrugged and munched on a piece of bacon, leaning back on the chair. “Do you have any weaknesses? You already proved you can walk in the sun, so any problems with silver? Garlic, holy water, crucifixes?”
Now we got to the point of this entire questioning. Something was going on in that head of hers. Otherwise, why would she want to know about my weaknesses? I had my shortcomings as a man. All of us did, but if she was expecting my demon to have its shortcomings, she was in for a surprise.
“No! God, no! I can go into churches, I like and feel comfortable in them.” Liz was up to no good with all these questions, and I got very uncomfortable, to the point of squirming in my seat.
“So no weaknesses, then?” She peeked at me over the rim of her cup, gulping down some of the hot, aromatic liquid.
“Now that you are asking, I do.” She didn’t flinch, but her pupils gave her out as they dilated in those violet irises. “I call her Liz.” I smirked. “This weakness of mine only gets worse when she looks at me all pissed off, but I can see the burning flame of lust for me inside her eyes. Then it’s even painful to move.” I didn’t take my eyes from her as I talked, my voice smooth and raspy. A beautiful shade of red covered her face, making her wide lavenders pop, and goosebumps crawled all over her skin.
“She is, isn’t she?” It was her only response before she averted her face. “I’m done, we’d better go. I checked the weather, and the snow will get heavier in the afternoon, so if we want to get into the house, we can’t take long.”

The town wasn’t big. It was by a river and had a calming atmosphere that added to its beauty. I liked the peaceful air of this town. The light snow colored the streets white, contrasting with some colorful buildings or houses there. Liz rode us to a place called Kings Mall, buzzing with people, and I took back about the peaceful atmosphere I thought about earlier. She parked her bike in front of a store full of men’s clothes.
“You’re gonna like it here.” She laced her fingers in mine and brought me inside. The place was big, clothes hung everywhere, all kinds of it. While I couldn’t get over myself and all the surrounding changes, Liz went throughout the place, selecting a bunch of items and throwing them on top of me.
“Liz, I think it’s enough!” I growled at her without my patience.
“Ok, let’s go to the dressing room.” She pushed me towards the place, and once there, she hung up everything on some hooks on the wall. “Let’s do it then. Here, try these first.” They were like what I had on now. “These faded blue jeans got to be exceptional in this butt of yours, can’t wait to see it.” She slapped my ass.
“Liz, stop the teasing!” But she didn’t care about my warning, as she grinned at me. My Liz was a chaste lady, but the 21st century version was a little devil.
“There are some t-shirts, you pick the ones you like and match them with the pants, get at least two for now, and also, some long sleeves with a turtleneck collar.” She pointed at it, and I nodded. “I’ll be right out. When you’re all done, come and show me.” Pecking at my lips, she left.
All those clothes seemed to stare back at me, and I didn’t know where to start. I undressed myself and grabbed the pants she liked best. It’s funny, but nowadays clothing resorted to this type of material. Jeans. Liz had a bunch of them and rarely took them out of her luscious body. When I got out of that cubicle, she whistled loudly at me. I had the pants and a blue and white t-shirt on. There was a collar and little buttons at the top.
“Oh… Boy… You look handsome! Turn around, let me see that ass of yours!” I got the impression she was very fond of my butt. I did as she asked, and I felt so strange. “What? Didn’t you like it?”
“It’s not that, it’s… It’s just that the garments today are so plain… You know what I mean.”
“Yes, and no. Look at the bright side. Today it’s much faster and easier to get dressed, not to mention comfortable. But we have fancier clothing for special occasions as well.”
“I suppose.”
“Go ahead, separate them, try the other ones now.” I mixed and matched pants and t-shirts. She was right. Today, getting dressed became faster and less work. I only had to get used to it.
After about over an hour of dressing and undressing, and a howling Liz every time I showed up with a new outfit, I came to my last one, and by then my mood had changed to tired and annoyed. But, after seeing her face when I got out of the dressing room, it was worth the fun. I had a black leather pants on, kind of uncomfortable, a light beige wool sweater that made me feel like a turtle indeed, and a full-length black leather coat that once I put it on, I felt myself again for the first time, and I loved it. It had a funny way of closing from the collar down and overtopped the closure, about seven leather belt straps fastened by over-sized silver square buckles. I felt she chose it on purpose because it had a Dark Age aura to it.
“Grizzly!” I didn’t know if she breathed, whispered, or choked the word, but the way her lavenders stared at me, and she crossed her legs, I knew it was perfect.
“Dragă, you are giving yourself out.” I grinned at her with a smug face on. I just couldn’t help myself. Her temperature rose and her face went red as the telltale. She stood up and came to me.
“It fits you like the ruler you were! You are gorgeous and powerful in this outfit, Vlad.” She laced her finger in my hair, bringing me down to her mouth and kissing me with everything she got, pouring all her soul on it, and while she held the back of my neck, securing our lips together in a torrid kiss, her hand slid down my back, settling on my rear-end and squeezing one of my butt cheeks. My demon howled in my head, and a shiver ran down my spine as my cock twitched. Not happy to be trapped inside those pants and in a public place.
“Dragă, I won’t be able to hold myself if you keep up with this. I believe the store manager won’t be happy if I attack you here.” I warned her, trying to find my breath.
“Right. Let’s pay for these and go. We still need a few more things.”
“Like what woman, don’t you think these are enough?”
I got cranky by the minute. Shopping was a task I discovered I didn’t have the patience for. I knew nothing about the value of money today, and I didn’t think these clothes were cheap either. I needed to put my hands on my money as soon as this entire mess ended.
“Perfumes. You must have one.” She gripped harder at my hand and pulled me out of the store, dragging me to another one, going over the shelves and separating a few of them. She turned to me with one in her hand and spritzed on my neck, getting closer and sniffing my neck.
“It suits you. You smell delicious enough to eat.” She finished the sentence with a soft bite on my jaw, and at the same moment, I grabbed her neck, almost encircling it with my long fingers. When she looked at me, my eyes were as golden as the bright sun.
“So, it’s better we go home, where I can take better care of you, dragă.” I growled low into her ear, breathing and nibbling on her lobe, and the waves of arousal hit me square in the groin.
