Moving in
CAMILLA
~•~
Freddie banged his door shut, matched away from the car, stormed into the house and still banged that door shut again. I sat still in his car and watched him from my window. What was I supposed to say? What was I to do? And why the hell was he acting like my boyfriend?
On the third thought, I pushed my door open and followed his pattern - leaving a series of doors shaking behind me. He paced about in his living room, hands stroking the beard on his chin. When I stepped in, he took one long and silent glance at me. My nerves caused me to tuck my hands into the pocket of my wet shorts.
"You seriously cannot be considering that offer."
Here we go again.
I rolled my eyes and looked around the room, before landing my eyes on him.
"Well, I am."
"Why? Why for fucks sake?!"
"Because I need the job!" I yelled back. He pulled back by a few feet, stepping away from me. A bitter laugh escaped his throat and my eyes narrowed on him.
"You just said this afternoon, that you offered to work for free. He isn't paying you any money, so how do you need this job?"
How do I explain to him? How do I let him know that the heart had its reasons, which reason cannot know?
I knew I could not, and so I did not try.
"You won't understand Freddie, you can't." I blurted out, fixing my gaze on my green pair of flip-flops.
I could feel his dark burning gaze on me, but I refused to look back up at him. In a matter of seconds, he scoffed.
"This is pointless. Goodluck with hour job." Was all he said, before making it halfway across the living room, towards me, pushing past me and heading for the stairs.
I had two choices. I could sink into that couch and feel sorry for myself and my dwindling relationship with my best friend, or I could go to my room and begin packing my things.
Oh! You thought I'll say "give up and be with Freddie"? No. I was no quitter, and he knew that himself.
I turned away from the living room and made my way to my room. I closed the door behind me and headed for my wardrobe first, before anything else. Packing all my belongings into the two boxes I had come with took time, but I was able to get done in an hour and thirty minutes.
I set aside the clothes I was to wear the next day and jumped into bed immediately after that. I was too exhausted to think, and staying awake one more minute would mean surrendering to my thoughts.
I woke up to the sound of my iphone's alarm. I rose up from the bed with a splitting headache, which I stubbornly ignored. I went straight to the bathroom, took my shower and dressed up. I stared at the image of myself, clad in a sea blue dress that stopped right above my knee. Long sleeves and collars made me feel confident, this dress had both. I let my dark hair fall to my shoulders and I made no attempt at touching my face.
I looked around the room one last time, before pulling my boxes out of the room. I went down the stairs and found Freddie havingg breakfast, as usual. I stood by the living room where he sat, a tray of bacon and eggs on his lap while he watched the local news.
When he turned to me, I flashed him a smile. But, my smile was met with stone cold silence. He turned away from me without saying a word.
Did it hurt? If you judge by the hollow feeling in my chest, yes, it did. But, it was his call, I was doing what I needed to do for me. I moved myself and my boxes out of his house. Was I comfortable with the idea of living with mister Holloway? Of course not! My license was at risk for this crazy stunt he was trying to prove. But, this was a second chance life had dropped at my feet, I didn't know if there would be a third, I couldn't risk it.
I took the routine taxi to his estate, and alighted from that, to board another to his house. I stopped in front of his mansion this time. I was welcome here today. I pulled my boxes up to the front porch, and pressed a finger on the door bell. The door opened almost immediately and the ever frowning butler frowned at me - I was used to this already.
I flashed him my routine smile.
"Good morning."
His eyes traveled down to my boxes, before they rose up to meet my face again.
"Come in. I'll show you to your room."
I said nothing. I stepped into the house with my boxes and followed him behind. He led me up the flight of stairs. Sparkling white marble tiles on the floor and almost fifty steps that curved after every fifteen. We got to the final floor, at last. We stood in front of a corridor, with four doors. Two stood on the left, and another two on the right, facing each other. The floor was covered in a thick fancy red rug, and we walked upon it as he led me to the first door on the left.
He slid the door open and stepped inside, I followed him behind. My eyes could not drink in the sight of the room in one swift move. This room was magnificent!
Indigo marble tiles matched the indigo polish on the wall. A round shaped double king-sized bed sat in the center, on top another fancy white rug with enough fur that could be grabbed. The dressing mirror was the size of the entire wall at the frontal end of the room and the window was half the size of the wall. The wardrobe was just beside my bed, I didn't mind that it was small, I did not have too many clothes anyway.
"This would be your room throughout your stay here. I would be making any changes you desire…"
"It's perfect." I bit back, raging with excitement. This room made me feel like I was in a five star hotel! Seven star infact!
Antonio, the butler, nodded and turned away, leaving me in the room alone.
After taking a tour around the circular walls of the room, twice the size of my room in Freddie's house, and thrice the size in my sister's. This was exquisite!
I quickly arranged my clothes in the wardrobe and set all cosmetics in the dressing cabinet beside it. I was itching for a tour of the house. Since Antonio had not returned to offer me one, I decided to take one myself.
I stepped out of the room and closed the door behind me. It was awfully quiet, as though no one lived in it. I wondered how he was able to live in such a big house all by himself - well, Antonio was here, but he didn't really count if you ask me. I took slow steps down the stairs, into what could pass as a reception room. I turned left and found the door of the study, further left led me to a sliding glass door. I had always wondered what brightened this hall, now I had found it.
I walked towards the door and slid it open.
My jaw dropped at the sight before me.
A large pool shaped like the letter "T" lay in front of me. The surrounding areas decorated in white tiles and synthetic carpet grass.
Towards the right, was another glass door. In it, I could see mister Ivan. His strong masculine legs running on a thread mill. Everything around me came to a stand still in that moment. My eyes were fixed on him, and I couldn't bring myself to take it off. His grey vest exposed his muscular biceps, and the broadness of his shoulders was at the mercy of my raking eyes.
By the way...when and how did his legs heal so fast?
I had known that he was a handsome man from the moment I saw him, but this…
"Miss Theodore."
The male voice called from behind me.
I jerked up immediately and spun around to meet Antonio, standing in front of the glass door. I smiled nervously.
He looked away from me and turned to the direction of the gym. A thin scowl formed on his face when he saw mister Ivan.
"Come with me." He said, without looking back at me.
Flustered, I walked behind him and he closed the glass doors, before he turned to me.
"You are a smart woman miss Theodore, I expect you to act as such." He spat out.
I narrowed my eyes at him immediately, every hint of embarrassment drained from my face.
"What are you talking about?"
"My boss is a charming man, you are a beautiful woman. Do not make yourself a scape goat."
