Chapter 19
I vomited everything.
My eyes sting when my gut is clenched. I emptied my stomach. I was feeling so weak, and the smell of roasted fish made words for me. I washed my mouth and face before getting out of the bathroom. I saw a shadow in the corner, but I was too exhausted to pay attention to it. I took a cab to my apartment. I wanted to take a good rest. When I reached my apartment, I slumped on my bed and looked relieved. A sigh of comfort left my mouth. My back was hurting, and now I felt good. I kicked my shoes off and turned around to snuggle with my pillow. I closed my eyes, and exhaustion took over. I fell asleep. I slept like a dead woman. I woke up the next morning because of hunger. I made breakfast for myself.
A simple omelette and toasted bread. I have been craving it for a few days. I moaned in delight when I ate it. Once I was done eating, I decided to gather all my legal papers. I'm going to take my divorce to court. I have made up my mind. He is not taking the divorce agreement seriously. He has been pushing it away every day, not freeing me from this burdensome relationship. I want to be completely free as soon as possible and start my new life far away from here with my baby. Once I gathered all my papers and marriage certificates, I put them neatly in a bag. Then I took a shower and got dressed in simple jeans and a grey T-shirt. It was hot outside, so I didn't bother to take any coats. I put my hair in a ponytail and put some lipgloss on my cracked lips. I left my apartment when my booked taxi arrived. I left for the court. I hope I get divorced soon. The driver stopped the taxi away from the court because of lots of traffic jams.
“Maam, please get down here or else the courier will be closed before you reach there,” the taxi driver said while looking at me through the front mirror. He was right. If I wait, it will be too late.
“Thank you,” I said after paying him the fare. The court was a fifteen-minute walk away from her. I was walking towards it when suddenly I heard someone yelling.
“Thief!” a woman shouted. I turned around to see her on her knees, withering in pain. She looked unfair. I immediately ran to her.
“Are you ok?” I asked her with concern while helping her stand.
"Yes, I'm fine. Please catch the thief,” she said with pain in her eyes. She was injured. I looked in the direction she pointed, and I saw a thief running.
“You wait here. I will catch him,” I promised her before running after the thief.
“Be careful!” she shouted while standing against the wall of a shop.
“Don't worry about me. Stay here,” I said for the last time before chasing that thief. He turned his head to look back. His eyes widened when he saw me chasing him. I was running fast, and it shocked him. He ran into an ally, and I followed him without caring where he was going. It was a dead end.
"Give it back to me,” I said, pointing at the bag in his eyes. His jaw clenched in anger. I knew he was human. He had no scent. Even if I was low omega, I was still stronger than a normal human.
“Give me the bag,” I said firmly while showing my teeth. He was scared now. He grabbed a log of wood to attack me. He came running to me. I shield myself with both my hands. He stuck the log hard on my arms, and it started to bleed because of the rusty nails on it. I winced in pain. I grabbed the log with a firm grip before he could beat me again. I beat him with it before snatching the bag from him.
“Let me go'' he cried out for his safety. My face grimaced. I threw the log away from his reach. If I let him go, he will try to assault someone else. He will try to steal from people again. I decided to hand him over to the police. Suddenly, the police were there. Someone had reported him. They caught him.
“Don't steal again from people,” I warned him, and he gulped in fear. He nodded at me. The police took him away. I walked out of there and went back to Stanger, where I helped. She was waiting for me, still there. Her eyes widened when she saw her bag in my hand.
“Thank God you got it,” she said in relief. It seemed important to her.
“Here, take it,” I said while giving it to her. She was still holding the bag that he gave her before running behind the thief. She held my hand instead of taking her bag.
“Oh god, you are bleeding,” she said with a worried look in her eyes.
“You need to go to the hospital,” she said with that worried look still in her eyes.
“I'm fine. It's not hurting that much,” I said, even though it was hurting so bad. My blood kept coming out of the wound.
“No, we need to go to the hospital. You got injured because of me,” she said, refusing to let go of my hand. She took me to the hospital, where the doctor would clean my wound and then bandage it. In the meantime, I got to know that her name is Lucy. We ended up bonding in a very short time. She thanked me again and again for helping her by putting my life in danger. She was a kind and soft-talking woman. I winced in pain when the doctor wiped my wound. The solution he used to clean it stung so badly. Lucy held her hand like a mother would hold her child's hand. She comforted me, telling me it would be done soon.
“All done,” Lucy said when the doctor was done with me. I took a deep breath and smiled at her.
“Brave girl,” Lucy praised me while moving her hand back in soothing circles. I smiled at her. Suddenly, the door of the room opened, and he walked inside, dressed in his crisp suit. His grey orbs settled on us. His sudden appearance surprised me. All those emotions I went through yesterday are still fresh in my memory.
What is he doing here?
