Chapter 28
I gasped loudly in fear when she said that. It was my most-dreaded fear. My child is not being accepted by all the pack members. It saw me to the point that it made me feel so restless.
“Have you forgotten your childhood?” she taunted, making my past flash in front of my eyes. I remembered how I was bullied just because I was Omega. All the kids used to call me names because I didn't even have parents. I remember how lonely I used to feel. Every night, I would cry on my grandmother's lap. She would make soothing circles on my back to console me. She always said the moon goddess was watching everyone who was misbehaving with me. She told me the goddess would punish everyone who called names to her most precious creation. Her words gave me hope, and slowly, they made me strong. It gave me hope today, too. I realised Lilian had brought the first soup to confirm my pregnancy. She knew I was pregnant. My jaw became tight when she smirked at me evilly.
“I will never let that happen to my child. I will protect my baby with all of me,” I said firmly, and her jaw clenched, listing my words. She was enjoying the fear and my distress a second ago, but it all vanished when I said that. My hand wrapped protectively around my stomach. “You are trying to get Mason away from me using this child,” she said accusingly while pointing at my stomach.
“I will never let that happen. You child and you both will die before that happens,” she said, cursing me and my unborn child. My eyes widened in disbelief, and anger pumped into my bloodstream. My wolf became angry, and I showed her my fangs.
“If you ever dare to touch my child, I will kill you.” I threatened her, and I saw how taken aback she was when I said that.
“You are the one who is taking my husband away from me and my father away from my child. Why are you accusing me when you are a homewrecker?” I said to her face, and she gasped in horror because I showed her the mirror. Her face was stunned, and she fell short of words. So she came forward to physically attack me.
“I'm not a homewrecker. You are the one. You took my Mason away from me when I was away,” she said while trying to attack me. I push her away with new-found strength.
“I never took him. The moon goddess gave him to me. I'm his mate, not you. He was never yours to start with,” I said to her face, and the colour drained from her face. It made her even more angry. She once tried to attack me, but this time I pushed her hard, not caring that she was sick. If she wanted to attack me, then she deserves the same reaction. It made her fall into the flood. Her jaw clenched in anger. She turned her face to look at me, and somehow she was still in the flood.
“Mason is mine and will be mine only. He is not divorcing you only because of his mother. He is so eager to get married to me without even giving me a divorce,” she said, and my eyes widened in fear.
"No, he is not,'' I refused to accept it. I don't believe her after the care and love he showed me. She smirked evilly and stood up on her feet.
“Whatever makes you sleep at night,” she said with that evil smile still on her lips. My eyes widened in shock, and my heart started to beat fast. She turned around and walked out of the house. Tears, which I have been holding for so long, started to leak from my eyes. I was so deeply hurt by her words. Rina, my maid, came running to the bathroom when Lilian left.
"Madam, are you okay?” She helped me go to bed. She whipped my teary face, trying to calm down. She made me drink water about the idea of what was happening in my life. She heard it all. She tried to calm me down while making soothing circles on my back. I felt so lost, deep in my heart. I started to feel suffocated here. I stood up, wanting to be out of here in the fresh air. I wanted to go on a run, but I felt too weak to do it.
“Where are you going, madam?" Rina asked me in concern.
“I want to get some fresh air,'' I told her in my weak voice before walking out of the house. I kept walking on the streets mindlessly. All the things Lilian said to me and all the things Mason did to me, good and bad, both started to flash in front of my eyes. My eyes become glassy with so many emotions swirling in them. I was so lost in my thoughts that I did not realise I was in the middle of the street.
“Ouch!” I was in pain when a broken glass bottle pierced my skin. A pain shot to my leg, and that's when I realised I was barefoot. I had not even bothered to wear my shoes. Tears welled up in my eyes when I saw my bleeding foot. I slowly lifted my foot to remove the glass dug into my skin.
“Aaa!” I cried out even more when I tried to take it out. Tears of pain are rolling down my cheeks. I couldn't differentiate if those years were because of physical pain or because of the strain on my mind. I couldn't. I tried my best to get that broken glass out of my foot when I heard the loud honking of a car. It made me look in its direction. My eyes widen as I look at the blinding flashlight. My hands let go of my foot and wrapped around my stomach. Once again, there was loud honking.
“Your child and you both will die before that happens'' Lilian's curse echoed in my ears.
I was scared. It is so sacred for the safety of my child.
