Chapter 21
I wish to become like her someday.
I once again looked at Lilian's face, and she was on the verge of crying from all the things Lucy said. I kept standing quietly on the side. “Answer me, Mason, what are you going to tell Grandpa when he finds out about it?” she asked her son firmly.
“From what I heard, I know your grandpa is fond of Rosalyn. Do you have any idea how he will react when he finds out that you both are going to divorce?” His mother asked while glaring at Lilian, who was still standing beside Mason shamelessly.
“Mom, I won't let Grandpa know about it. I will take care of it,” Mason said to calm down his angry mother.
“I can see how you are taking care of the things here in my absence. I never expected to meet your wife when she was about to divorce you for your behaviour,” Lucy said, sounding so disappointed with her son.
“Mom, you don't know what's happening here. At least let me explain it to you,” Mason tried to explain to his mother, trying his best to get out of this situation. I could see the distress in his eyes from upsetting his mother.
“What will you explain to me, huh?” She asked in anger.
“Have I seen and heard enough? What else is remaining to see?'' Lucy asked curtly while looking at Lilian. I saw Lilian swallowing hard.
"Please, least to him. It's not how it looks. Do you think Roslyn is good for Mason? She is a low-ranked Omega,” Lilian said accusingly while looking in my way. She ground her teeth and glared at me with her malice-filled eyes. I got a little worried when she told Lucy that I was a low-ranked Omega. Will a mother accept a low-ranking omega as her alpha son's mate? I don't think so. I was preparing myself from the inside to face the backlash that was about to come my way. I know she will never accept me as her son's mate or Luna of her pack. No one with good blood runs in the family. Lilian smirked, looking at the distress on my face. My face gave away what I was thinking. It was so clear on my face that anyone could read it. I stayed quiet even when Lilian said such hurtful things about me.
“What does it matter which rank she holds? The moon goddess has chosen her to be my son's mate and Luna of our moon pack, and that's what matters to me,” Lucy said firmly while looking straight at Mason and Lilian. She surprised me with her words. I saw how Lilian's mouth opened in disbelief when her last hope to assassinate my character was shattered by Lucy.
“If the moon goddess has chosen her for Mason, who am I to ask or anyone else to question her decision?” His mother said this to both of them.
“You have shown great disrespect to the moon goddess by trying to change her fated relationship,'' Lucy said accusingly to her son and to the snake who was standing beside him.
“Mason, if you are divorcing Lilian because of her rank, then I don't think you are the right person to be Alpha,” Lucy said, looking straight into his eyes, and I saw how Mason's grey eyes changed to a darker shade of grey. She was challenging his wolf, but she was not even a bit scared. My wolf twitched in happiness when she heard his roaring. She was madly in love with his wolf. I can't help it. She, his mate, and his mates are for life. That's what my grandmother has told me. Every wolf has only one mate for life, chosen by the moon goddess. There is no second chance for us wolves. It's very rare for a wolf to get a second chance. Chances are slim to zero. I know I will not get a second chance. I know I have to go through great pain to reject him. I know the consequences of breaking this marriage, but I was doing all of this for my child. I will live the rest of my life in pain, but I will never let my child grow up in such a toxic environment. He or she deserves a world, and I'm ready to give it to them even if I have to sacrifice mine.
"Mom,” Mason said in his dominating voice, but Lucy glared at him. His wolf was up, but she didn't care because she was talking to her son.
“Answer my one question. Why do you want to divorce Roslyn?” She asked him firmly, to which Mason clenched his jaw and pressed his lips in a thin line. Lucy knew he would not have any answers. She exhaled deeply while looking at him.
“If it's for her, then I don't think your sacrifice is worth it,” Lucy said while looking at Lilian, who started crying. Her fake tears started to roll down her eyes. She sobbed, and Mason was immediately on her side. Lucy's face grimaced, matching mine. We both knew it was a show. She was crying because her true face was exposed by Lucy.
"Lilian,” he said softly, and Lucy scoffed in disappointment.
“I will see you soon, dear,” Lucy said while putting her hand on my shoulder. I held back my tears, not letting myself cry after how she supported me in front of both of them. I was happy to see her by my side. I nodded my head with tears in my eyes and a smile on my lips.
“Mom” Mason tried to stop her, but she walked out of the room. As soon as she was out, I followed her too. I didn't want to be in the same room as them. I was going towards the elevator when my injured arm was grabbed.
"Aaa,” I hissed in pain, and he immediately let go of my hands.
“Did I hurt you?” he said worriedly while taking hold of my hand. He once again started to examine it.
“You have hurt me more than this. This pain is nothing in front of it,” I said, pulling my hand out of his hold. His jaw clenched, and he pulled me back to face him by taking hold of my shoulder.
“Listen carefully, my dear mate,” he said in his dominating voice, which managed to send chills down my spine.
“We will not get divorced anytime soon. My mother will never accept it,” he said firmly, making me gasp.
“I don't care. It's your problem. I want a divorce soon,” I said, not agreeing with him. His nose flared in anger.
“I have already made the decision,” he said, looking straight into my eyes. He was commanding me using his Alpha voice.
“We will not get divorced, and it's final.”
