Chapter 73 : Lux Solaris Café
Lyra was about to insert the mysterious door's key when it abruptly opened and Lyra's secretary emerged from the inside. Her eyes were dilated with fear, and her neck was dripping with blood as she stumbled down onto the floor. "They're down there, Miss Brinson."
Lyra stood like a statue, watching her secretary roll around on the floor in pain.
"What happened to her?" Rakiza drew her dagger and braced herself for a fight, as the door closed and Lyra screamed, "Let us take her out of here, Rakiza!"
They placed the secretary's body on the conference table.
"Please call the building's doctor, Rakiza," Lyra screamed, and Rakiza bolted.
Rakiza returned to the applicants' waiting area and informed Chin and Theo of what had occurred. And she asked Theo for confirmation of what she had heard from Lyra's secretary, that vampires were hiding out in the basements with the night-shift workers. "We have to move quickly because they have planned a witness death for Nikolas Augustus."
"This building has an underground for night-shift workers?" Chin inquired.
Angela tells Chin everything she knows about the building. Then Theo came in. I need to tell Ajella to get ready. "
They had already drafted a plan for rescuing Nikolas, with Ajella leading a group of werewolf fighters and hunters. It was a heated debate among the werewolves about whether or not to save the vampire Nikolas.
Rakiza, Theo, and the company doctor entered the conference room, while Chin went to Lupe to inform him of the next plan. And the doctor escorted the injured secretary into a smaller room while the rest returned to the conference room to devise an urgent plan. "Does the off-limits area have another exit?"
Lyra trembled. "The night-shift will never use the old-building entrance for the day-shift workers; they will never bump into each other because the night-shift will always use the Lux Solaris Cafe as an entrance and exit."
"The cafe across the street?" Rakiza was taken aback.
"Yes," Lyra agreed. "And Sir Nikolas will be hanged tomorrow night," she cried, "my secretary whispered to me."
Rakiza was unsure of what to do next. "We should go down there and get Nikolas, Theo."
"Clam down, Rakiza," Theo replied, "we must not make a mistake in rescuing Nikolas Augustus. This is their domain, and it may bring more deaths to my people, but as I've said, the enemies must pay their lives in proportion to the number of lives they took from us. "
"I'm scared," Lyra said, trembling. "I wasn't expecting this to happen; I had suspicions about vampires in this building but was in denial; what are we going to do?" Lyra asked.
"You've done enough by keeping us hidden from others," Theo said gratefully. "Take us to the Rakiza, Lyra, and Theo crossed the street and went into a restaurant where Lupe and Chin were waiting for them.
Theo dialed his cell phone and spoke with Ajella on the other end of the line, instructing her on what to do. They then looked for a table with a clear view of the Lux Solaris Cafe after a brief conversation and instructions. Lyra sat them at a table across the street to observe the cafe house.
"Look at the Solaris Cafe house's entrance," Lyra said. "Have you noticed the type of customers who come into the cafe house?"
Theo and Rakiza both stared silently at the cafe house. They waited for the sun to set, and as soon as it was hidden by the earth, they noticed people wearing black coming in and out of the building. Rakiza was reminded of the scene in the A Tower masquerade ballroom.
"They were vampires," Theo mumbled as he looked out the cafe house window. "And they were planning something."
"It can only be Sir Nikolas' death," Lyra sobbed. "We must save him."
"Yes, Miss Brinson, we will save him at any cost," Rakiza promised.
"We need to get ready for the event tomorrow and draft our final strategy in my cottage," Theo said as they exited the café house.
They planned everything at the cottage, and Theo gave Ajella a few instructions over the phone. They're all gathered in the living room after dinner. Since they left the Reign-Bridge Publishing house, Theo had been deafeningly silent. Chin excused herself from class to go to bed early. And Lupe went to his car to sleep. And Theo and Rakiza were left alone in the living room.
"What happens tomorrow may be a failure for all of us, but remember that we've done this for you and you alone," Theo said solemnly.
"Thank you for assisting me in pursuing this plan, Theo," Rakiza said. "You're right, tomorrow's event might take us all to death, and you're free to get out of the potentially bloody outcome of this rescue plan tonight, Theo."
"There are no regrets with this, Rakiza." Theo sighed, "As I've said, I'm doing this to avenge my people's death. They have to pay. They must pay. And we have to get some sleep for tomorrow's operation. And they all went to sleep. "
The sun rose brightly in the morning, and they were all reenergized and ready for their task. Rakiza went outside the cottage and saw Theo on the phone.
"Everything is in order here; we need to meet at the Reign-Bridge publishing house."
Rakiza silently thanked him for assisting her. And she was worried about what would happen the following night.
"Are you nervous?" Rakiza inquired.
"A little, but that won't stop me from fighting for Nikolas."
"Do you love him?" Theo asked Rakiza as she stared at her.
"To be honest, I like Nikolas, but," Rakiza couldn't quite articulate how she felt about Nikolas, "But let's not talk about love right now, Theo; we're going to war, so we have to focus on our journey tonight."
Then it was time to go. Lupe's car was full of them. And the plan was to send them separately to the publishing house. Each person has a specific task to complete. Chin is looking for the entrance. She only had to text the number of vampires entering the Luz Solaris Cafe. Rakiza was supposed to contact Lyra, the manager, again. And Theo must meet with Ajella's group of werewolves disguised as gypsies visiting town and dining at Lux Solaris Cafe, and blend in with the vampires. They had created a scent misdirection ability to conceal their true scent from their prey and vampires.
Everything was in working order. Rakiza returned to the publishing house, looking for Lyra when she happened to pass by the company clinic. And the doctor was leaving the clinic. Rakiza crept behind the thick curtain and entered the clinic quietly to see the wounded secretary and ask her more questions about the basement and underground. She was curious about the Lux Solaris Cafe House. She demanded to see the building's blueprint.
Rakiza quietly opened and closed the clinic door. She then noticed the manager's secretary's feet on the hospital bed behind the white separator curtain of the clinic. And she was astounded to see Lyra's secretary bite the nurse. "Oh no!"
"Help me," the nurse pleaded, her pale face drained of blood. And then she collapsed on the floor.
Rakiza was aware that she needed to act. Then she sprayed the wounded secretary with wolfsbane poison, and she started smoking from the spot where her wound was being sprayed. She screamed and ran into the darkness. The nurse was motionless on the floor. But Rakiza knew she had to do something to help the nurse. She then pulled out a thin wooden stick and struck the stick right in her heart. And then she left the room and went straight to the manager's office, but Lyra was nowhere to be found. "What's your plan, Lyra?" The building was almost abandoned with a few personnel moving around. And nobody knew where Lyra was.
In her frustration, she slammed her fist on Lyra's table, and saw the blue print of the whole building. And to Rakiza's surprise, the blueprint revealed the publishing house's secrets. And the weirdest secret of all was the hidden underground beneath the building and a tunnel going up to the Lux Solaris Cafe house. Rakiza ran as fast as she could to find the exit of the building. She had to give the blueprint to Theo.
Rakiza discovered Theo inside the cafe. And Theo couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the blueprint in front of him. "We should move down to the basement and underground, and this blueorint could help," Theo suggested, and Rakiza rose to her feet. "What are we waiting for?" Let's go to the Lux Solaris Cafe and mix with the vampires. "
Rakiza and Theo, along with the rest of the black vampires, were on their way into the Lux Solaris Bar's secret passageway a few minutes later. They were all dressed in black, including Rakiza and Theo, and they formed a line at the elevator door. Rakiza began to tremble as soon as the elevator door opened. She was aware that the enemy was also interested in capturing her.
The elevator had six of them, and Theo could smell vampires among them.
