My Parents Died Because of Me??????

Dragana POV

“I am a WHAT??????”. Dear Goddess, how did this day get to go so badly???? What is happening?? One day I dream of freedom and the ability to leave the pack and that is my biggest problem in life. Next day, people are shooting at me. I find out I am in love with a guy I can never have and who is not my mate, I find family I never knew about, family that should have kept me close all my life, being told I am - a what???? “A WHAT???”, I repeat again in a very high pitch voice, not sounding like myself, not recognizing it. Everything was spinning around me again, and I barely contained myself from falling. I did not realize that, as Solomon was explaining things to me, in the process I stood up, my fists clenched, my posture stern, anger seeping from me like a storm.

“Calm down...”, the soft voice said. “Think, there must be an explanation to this – something more logical perhaps”, the voice continued. She was right. I needed to calm down and remember my books and stories I read. Sitting back down, exhaling, I tried to focus or at least let go of the pain which was enveloping my whole being for some reason.

“Tribrid”. I vaguely recalled that I had read legends of Tribirds – creatures embedded with so much magic, including the creationist one, with a direct link to Gia. The stories said that Tribrid carries unique abilities, unique blood and, unlike everything else Gia created, they were an unexpected and extremely rare creature that evolved naturally over time. As such, the Tribrids held the most power in the realm, second only to Gia and the First Dragon himself. It is said that Gia put half of her heart and half her being into creating her first born son. Legends say that the First Dragon holds more magic than any other being, save for Tribrids.

Trinity somehow was an important tenant to Gia. The stories of old and the teachings in our realm always praised the power of Three, the initial Tree beings created by Gia, those that created the world. First Dragon, King Kal, her first born child, was the ruler of the realm. Gia never involved herself and had no interest in ruling over her creation. Her daughter Thalia, mistress of the seas, was Kal’s closest and most beloved sister and relative. Thalia was a fierce warrior but fair ruler, and as One of The Three, she created the closest connection to humans, often helping even though she was technically not supposed to. Lord Alwyin, the Fairy, and the Elf King were the creator of all living things, and between three of them, most entuned with what magic energy moved the world. With his mother and his siblings, they created the world we live in.

When Gia saw the balance they created, she wrote a Supreme Law, a Supreme Spell, a spell designed to always balance the world. The three energies were required for a balance of anything and in cases and times of great distress, the power of three would always overcome whatever darkens was coming for it. Being a Tribrid brought those balances and forces together, and the being that possessed them, in turn, had the power to hold the balance of this world.

These thoughts flashed before me as I was standing there looking at Solomon, his face smiling at me encouragingly. “I think you are mistaken”, I heard myself croak, unwilling and scared to believe him. “I had denounced my wolf and focused on simply being a witch. I wanted to tap into the power of the Slavic Coven, and I understand they were never too fond of mixed blood. Plus, I did not want the mate bonds or werewolf pulls to complicate my life. Even with that, I do not understand why you’d think I am Tribid. Tri implies three entities, and all I ever had was 2 at best”, I continued.

His thunderous laughter echoed around me the moment I said those words. “My beautiful, beautiful, innocent child”, he said, still laughing. I was confused, not sure why he was laughing. “I am not laughing at you child, I am laughing at the situation”, he said between the laughs.

“I do not understand what is funny”, I said, puzzled. “Your mother did a wonderful job, such an incredible job, and sacrificed so much”, he said now, his smile subsiding, and his expression getting serious. Somehow, I knew I did not want to hear what he was going to say. “My beautiful, beautiful granddaughter Dzana” he said wistfully. “She knew, child. She knew what you were from the moment you were born. Therefore, she gave up everything. That is why she, a Princess from both royal lineages of her birthright, ran and never looked back, why she looked for refuge in a common wolf pack with her friends Angela and Jonathan. It is why your father died protecting you both”, he said, my heart breaking hearing him. “So, my parents died because of me??? So it is my fault???!!!”, I whispered softly. The realization stunned me. I lost the ability to move, frozen in time and space, feeling as if my world just collapsed, completely shattering in the process.
