Spellbound
Lady Asma POV
“I would love to know that answer myself, Roman. I would love to know who your mate is too! However, my King, I am not Gia, nor the Moon Goddess”, I said, confused by his question. Something was nagging me though. He told everybody he had found his mate, and based on what we learned, his mate was Alice, daughter of Alpha Alan. If he knew she was his mate, why is he asking me this, I thought to myself. “Caleb does not think Alice is our mate”, he said flatly before I had a chance to ask him to clarify. “Her wolf refuses him, hides from him. And….”
“And what Roman??”, I heard Alpha King Jonathan ask the question that was on my mind. “There is no real bond. There is something like a bond, and I smell her scent, but… I do not know… something is off”, Roman tried to explain, his stress evident on his handsome face. He was pinching the top of his nose and running his fingers through his messy hair.
“Mate bond is undeniable, regardless of one’s past endeavors”, I noted diplomatically. The whole Kingdom knew of the Alpha King’s sexual appetite and hoard of creatures and humans alike in his bed. He was not necessarily unique in this – many Alphas and high-ranking shifters were acting similar, yet it was desirable of females to be pure before the mate bond, I thought to myself. Pure hypocrisy and warped traditions of male dominance if there ever was such a thing, I thought, giggling internally.
Female energy ruled our species and this world, coming from the Great Mother Gia. We have allowed males of our kind to be perceived as dominant, but females wielded true power. I kept thinking, but not vocalizing this. “Do not traumatize the poor little pup, don’t tell him that, he has already had enough”, my wolf Harrah snared.
“Alpha King Roman, you know I am a hybrid? Yes?”, I asked quizzically. “I heard stories Lady Asma – you are a werewolf and a witch, is that correct?”. “Indeed, it is. I had something similar happen to me. When I met my mate, Samuel, I did not know right away that he was my mate. It had to do something with the magic my father placed on me. It took me a little bit of time to figure it out, but it took a lot to break the enchantment”, I continued. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes looked hopeful.
“You think Alice is a hybrid – or spellbound somehow?” he asked.
I nodded in thought. “If what you say is true, it is certainly a possibility Alpha King. There is also another possibility though……”.
“And what would that be???” he asked me curiously now. “Isn’t it obvious???You are spellbound. I can feel my sister’s magic around you, you have a shield. I am not sure of its true purpose, however”, I said flatly. “Wait a minute now!!!”, he said, raising his voice. “Why would Princess Dzana spell me NOT TO KNOW my mate???? How does that make any sense???!!!!! You just spent hours explaining to me that prophecies always aligned us in friendship, that she was a friend of our family. Why would a friend bind me to life without bond and mate, without love, succession, and happiness???!!!!”
I did not know the answers to these questions, but I needed to reveal the magic my sister used. She was always stronger than me. However, over the years, Samuel and I have trained with Solomon, increasing our powers, increasing our magic to protect the Coven. “I wish I knew the answer to that, I really do. Also, I am not saying that is what she did, I am simply offering it as a possibility. To be certain, I would like to meet your mate first. If she is spellbound, I will be able to tell, or at least recognize if any magic has been used and the imprint of a witch who did it. I do want to help you, Roman”, I encouraged him softly.
He was silent. I could see he was thinking, as was his father. The possibility of Dzana binding him somehow was resting heavily between us. I knew my sister was a creature of incredible power, but I could not think of a singular reason as to why she would do anything like that, least of all to Angela’s son. Angela was like a sister to both of us and we were bound we so much more than just a friendship. “How did you break it? How did you break your spell? And, your father bound you?????”, I heard him ask. “My father, Dark Lord Khor, yes, he bound me”, I stated simply. “Why???? Why would he do that to you???!!!!”
“We are not exactly friends anymore, so I truly could not ask him. There could be multiple reasons, but after the enchantment was broken, I did not ask much as to why, to be honest”, I said, not wanting him to know all the details I discovered. My father was a monster, and his monstrosity did not extend only to physical tortures. However, I did not want to share details with Roman at that time. A sudden realization dawned on him, something clicked in his mind, I could tell. “Princess Dzana broke your enchantment, didn’t’ she???” he asked, but it was more of a statement. It was my turn to be surprised. Only Samuel and I knew that, but at this point, there was no hiding it. I nodded. “Indeed, she did. She was the only one powerful enough to break father’s magic, no matter how strong”.
