Chapter 42
Elizabeth Summers’ POV
I wasn’t sure that I wanted a party throwing for my benefit but I couldn’t fault the pampering session that Jasper’s mom had organised for me. When I arrived at the alpha’s mansion Patti was there waiting for me. She ran up to me, wrapping her arms around my neck and squealing excitedly.
Jasper’s mom rolled her eyes and ushered us both upstairs to one of the spare bedrooms. At some point while I was gone it had been converted into some kind of beauty studio. There were massage tables and tables lined with more make up and colours of nail varnish than I have ever seen in one place before.
Patti’s face lit up like a christmas tree but I found so much choice a little bit overwhelming. I was so grateful to have Patti and Jasper’s mom here to help me, I felt more at home in a library than a beauty studio.
They knew more than I did about this kind of thing and seemed to know exactly what to do. We spent the first couple of hours giving each other various beauty treatments. We had massages, hair treatments and face masks. I quickly lost track of what was going on and how long we had been here.
“I have never felt this relaxed in my life,” I said with a sigh, as I removed my facemask.
“I know but we should probably start getting ready. The birthday girl has to look perfect for her party.” Jasper’s mom replied, smiling sweetly at Patti and I.
“I agree, we need to make sure that Elizabeth is waxed so she is nice and smooth for tonight.” Patti was almost bouncing in her seat with excitement.
“Why me? You’re wearing a dress too.” I complained. If I was going to go through such pain in the name of beauty, then so was she. Couldn’t I just shave and be done with it?
“Adam is insisting that we take things slow so it would be a waste,” Patti replied, causing a deep blush to cover my cheeks. I couldn’t believe Patti had just said that in front of Jasper’s mom, was everyone trying to embarrass me today? I glanced over to where Jasper’s mom was sitting, watching us.
“I think I will just stick with shaving,” I murmured. They both rolled their eyes at me as though I had broken some unwritten rule of girl code. Oh well, I had never really cared about anything like that and I wasn’t going to start now.
“How are things with you and Adam?” I asked, changing the subject.
“I don’t understand him. At first he didn’t even want to give me a chance and now he won’t leave me alone for more than a few minutes. I don’t know what changed and I am worried he will change his mind again and leave me.”
“Never.” Adam shouted as he burst through the door. Was he just standing outside the room?
I didn’t even know he was there, did that mean that Jasper was here too. Maybe I could find him before the party and we could finish what she started. My wolf started purring in my mind, it sounded like she approved of that idea.
Adam had pulled Patti up to her feet and he was holding her close to his body. He was whispering to her, they weren’t speaking low enough to hide what they were saying from the rest of us. I was trying my best not to hear but he was clearly declaring his love to her.
Patti was shaking her head in disbelief. I could tell that she was trying not to get too attached to Adam, she was trying to talk down their relationship. Adam had been taking things slow with Patti physically because she was human. He was clearly worried about being able to restrain his wolf if things became too physical but Patti didn’t know that.
She thought that he was keeping her at arms length because he wasn’t really that into her. She was trying to back away from him while suggesting that maybe she wasn’t what he was looking for. Adam was completely distraught, he looked as though he was on the verge of tears. He pulled her closer to his body and cupped her cheek with one hand.
“Baby, you are everything to me. I will never let anything come between us.” He didn’t wait for her to reply, he pressed his lips against hers and kissed her passionately. So passionately that it was starting to make me feel uncomfortable. If I wasn’t careful then Jasper would feel my emotions and come bursting through the door. I turned my attention to the table of makeup at the other side of the room.
Concentrating on doing the best I could to make myself look beautiful and ignoring the loud kissing sounds coming from behind me. I was vaguely aware of Jasper’s mom sneaking out of the room. A few moments later Patti pulled away from Adam, giggling excitedly.
“Let’s take this somewhere a little more private,” Patti whispered quietly, but not quietly enough. Glancing over my shoulder, I could see Adam’s reluctance. He didn’t want to lose control over his wolf but that reluctance wasn’t enough to outweigh the draw of his mate’s attempts to seduce him.
He tentatively placed his hands in hers and followed her out of the room, leaving me alone. I know that some people would find being alone on their birthday depressing but I wasn’t one of them. Being alone was something that I was used to, most of my childhood was spent on my own reading, watching something or playing games. In the end solitude became like a security blanket for me, the only time I could truly feel comfortable.
Jasper had spent the last few weeks practically glued to my side and although I enjoyed his company, it was a lot. It felt good to finally have some time by myself in order to process things. I put on some light makeup then started painting my nails to match the dark green dress that Jasper’s mom had bought me for the party. I was so engrossed in my own thoughts that I didn’t notice Jasper sneaking up behind me until his arms engulfed me.
“You should have told me they left you alone.” Jasper said, as he ran his nose along my jaw.
“It’s fine, I don’t mind being alone.” As soon as the words left my mouth Jasper pulled me to my feet and into his arms. He kissed me on the neck and cheek while running his hands down my back.
“I can’t stop thinking about what happened earlier. I can’t wait to get you home tonight to finish what we started.” He purred, making me blush.
“It’s ok baby, I promise I will be gentle with you.” His breathing was heavy and I could feel his erection pressing against me. Something about feeling him against me and the memory of what we did earlier gave me a level of confidence I didn’t normally have.
“Maybe I don’t want you to be gentle.” I whispered.
Leaning up and making use of the extra height my high heels gave me, I placed a caste kiss on his lips. Jasper tried to deepen our kiss but I extracted myself from his embrace and walked away from him. I glanced over my shoulder once I reached the door, Jasper was still standing where I left him. The look on his face made me laugh, he wanted me desperately.
“Hurry up Jazzy, we have a party to get to,” I called over my shoulder. Jasper caught up with me quickly and slipped his arm around my waist.
He escorted me downstairs to where people were just starting to arrive for my party. Even though the party wasn’t meant to start for another half an hour or so, the house was already busy. If anything there were more people here tonight than had been here for Jasper’s birthday. I could only assume that they had heard about me being his luna and wanted to see us together.
My cynical inner voice insisted that everyone wanted to see just how unfit I was so that they could gossip about me. My knees started to shake just thinking about all this attention being on me, I needed a drink or something to settle my nerves.
Pulling Jasper with me I made my way into the kitchen. It was quieter once we managed to get past the main hallway but there were still more people than I was comfortable around. I started looking around the kitchen, I didn’t even know where the alcohol was kept. I sighed in frustration.
“Luna, what can I get for you?” One of the omegas, who was preparing food for the party, asked me. I wasn’t sure how I felt about her using that title, I wasn’t the luna of this pack yet and according to Jasper I never would be. It kind of felt like I was lying to her.
I was about to ask her to call me by my name when Patti came sauntering in from the garden. She looked unsteady and dazed, almost as though she was drunk. I ran over towards her, putting my hands on her arms as I visually checked her out. She seemed fine except for the angry looking mark she was now wearing on her neck.
“What happened to you?” She had only left me a few minutes ago. I found it hard to believe that Adam could have explained everything and marked her in that time. That would be some pretty swift work.
“I think I might be a little bit kinky,” She leaned closer to me and whispered in my ear.
“Why do you say that?” I asked, trying to contain the laughter that was threatening to escape me. She wasn’t making much sense and she was acting as though she was heavily intoxicated. She was now leaning against me, her eyes were rolling back into her head as she struggled to stay conscious. She needed to sleep, as a human her body needed rest to start the process of changing into a werewolf.
Adam had come into the house behind her and he looked as though he was desperate to take his mate from my arms. He was shifting uncomfortably on his feet and trying to inch his way forward. The only thing stopping him was Jasper, who was standing between Adam and his mate, watching him closely.
“Adam bit me and I liked it, really liked it.” She whispered. Jasper groaned, he looked as though he wanted to pull his hair out.
“What the fuck did you do?” Jasper grumbled.
“She consented.” Adam objected, he was trying to walk around Jasper to get to his mate.
“Did he ask if he could bite you?” I asked.
“No. He asked if I trusted him and if I wanted to be his forever. I agreed, I know it is quick but I really care for him.” She mumbled. She was starting to fade quickly, her eyes were fluttering closed and she was putting more weight on me.
“You’re a fucking idiot but right now I need you to take your mate to one of the bedrooms so she can rest.” Jasper growled. Adam had clearly misunderstood Patti but we just had to hope she wasn’t going to be too terrified once she found out what he had really done to her.
