Chapter 8
Jasper Hartford’s POV
My lips were only a few centimetres away from Lizzy’s. They looked so warm and inviting, slightly parted as though she was waiting for me to claim them. I could feel her breath on my snake, my whole body was responding to her. I wanted to push her against the wall and make her scream my name in pleasure.
“Jasper, what are you doing?” She asked.
“Kissing you.” I replied.
I closed the remaining space between us, closed my eyes and brought my lips towards hers. I waited for the moment our lips made contact but that moment never came.
I opened my eyes.
Lizzy was no longer standing directly in front of me, she had taken a couple of steps back. Why would she back away from me? The way she was looking at me and the way she said my name made it feel like she wanted me so why would she back away?
‘Maybe she is shy, maybe you should take things a bit more slowly.’ Garnet suggested. I ignored him.
I took a step towards her, I wanted to hold in my arms and press my lips against hers. When I kissed her I knew she wouldn’t be able to deny what was between us. Even without her wolf she would recognise our connection.
“What happened to only wanting your mate?” Lizzy asked, she looked annoyed.
This was new, I had never seen her get annoyed before. I like it. Seeing her standing in front of me with her arms crossed and look of sheer defiance on her face made me want her so much more.
“Get away from her.” Said a man’s voice.
I looked in the direction the sound was coming from. It was the boy from the other night. He was standing in the doorway, he was clenching his fists at his side. The look on his face told me that he didn’t really want me to leave, he wanted a fight. I didn’t care what he wanted, only what Lizzy wanted.
“Lizzy, do you want me to leave?” I asked.
She hesitated, looking between me and the boy as though she had no clue what to do.
“All I want is for everyone to get along.” She said, she sounded as though she wanted to cry. Garnet whimpered, he wanted to comfort her.
“I can do that.” I said quickly.
“Well I can’t. He hurt you and he spent years bullying you. As your boyfriend I can’t accept that.” The boy said.
“Boyfriend?” I shouted.
I tried to keep calm but I could already feel myself losing control. Just the thought of him putting his hands on her made me want to rip his hands off. If they had done anything else together, goddess help him because I would rip that off too.
‘I told you that we should have claimed her right away. This is all your stupid fault.’ Garnet said.
“You are not my boyfriend Oliver, we are just friends.” Lizzy said. She looked as annoyed with him as I felt.
“That’s not true, we have a date tonight.” The boy complained.
“It’s not a date, we are just going to watch the game together after school that is all.” Lizzy said.
I still felt jealous about the idea of Lizzy spending time with this Oliver guy but I was trying to keep myself from blowing up. If I acted the way I had in the past then I would never gain her trust or her love. It helped to know that Lizzy didn’t see this boy as anything other than a friend.
“We will see about that.” Oliver said before storming out of the classroom.
“Are you ok?” I asked.
She nodded her head.
“How about you cancel your not date with him and go for a meal with me instead?” I suggested, trying my best not to come across as jealous. She looked as though she was considering my proposal when the bell sounded.
“I have to go.” She muttered before making a hasty retreat, leaving me completely alone.
I spent the rest of the morning worrying about Lizzy meeting that guy tonight. I didn’t trust him and it wasn’t just his interest in Lizzy that bothered me. There was something about the way that he spoke to her that made me uncomfortable but I couldn’t work out why.
I would have loved more than anything to tell her not to go with him tonight, to have her go somewhere with me instead. Why was my mate the one woman who seemed to be completely immune to my charms?
When I finished my last lesson of the morning Nico was standing outside waiting for me. I didn't want to see or talk to anyone, I wasn’t in the mood. I had planned to go on a drive to clear my head but it looked as though I wasn’t going to get away with that now.
“So?” Nico asked.
“So what?” I asked.
“So, have you met your mate yet?” Nico asked.
I nodded my head.
“Who is it? I am just dying to meet the lady who can turn you into a one woman wolf.” Nico said.
I am sure that he is just excited that he doesn’t have to compete with me for attention anymore. Now that I have a mate, all the women who want a powerful man to bed them will go to him rather than me.
‘Good riddance.’ Garnet said, I had to agree.
“I can’t tell you. She is still seventeen and I haven’t gotten the nerve to tell her yet.” I replied.
“Wait a minute, you are nervous around a woman? Now you really have to tell me who she is.” He said.
“It is Lizzy.” I said.
“That sucks.” Nico said.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“I can see why you didn’t want to claim her.” Nico replied.
“You are wrong. I would love to claim her but after the way we have been treating her I am worried she would reject me.” I said. “Would that be a bad thing? She is only an omega anyway, you could do much better.” Nico said.
I shook my head.
“I don’t want anyone else. She is beautiful and smart, if anything I don’t deserve her.” I said.
“Have you got a plan to win her over?” Nico asked.
I expected him to put up more resistance to the idea of Lizzy being the pack’s luna. I thought he hated her but maybe he was just acting that way because of the way I acted. Nobody wanted to contradict their future alpha.
“I think so.” I said.
“Good because I would hate to see a woman getting the better of you, especially an omega.” He teased.
“Don’t worry, I have no intention of losing her.” I replied.
Even if my first plan didn’t work I was not going to give up. She couldn’t reject me until her wolf was present so I had months to earn her trust and get her to fall in love with me.
