Chapter 416 You're A Good Person

"I... I'm fine."
Matthew blinked. Suddenly, he was at a loss.
He should be happy. After all, Roseane was concerned about him. He wanted to pretend to be pitiful and gain sympathy. However, he was also afraid that she would be worried. Thus, he didn't know what to do at all.
Seeing the confused expression on his face, Roseane suddenly took a deep breath.
"Thank you for what you've done today."
"You don't have to thank me."
Matthew frowned and was a little unhappy.
"You never have to thank me based on our relationship."
Roseane looked at him for a long while and suddenly asked, "What's our relationship?"
Matthew's body stiffened and he subconsciously looked into her eyes.
"Husband... husband and wife."
However, Roseane's eyes were extremely clear. She stared at him as if she wanted to see through him.
"Matthew, I don't know why you refuse to divorce me. Didn't we... agree before?"
"Since you don't love me, you can just let me go. Isn't that good?"
A hint of panic flashed across Matthew's eyes. "No... No."
"Did I say something wrong? Have you fallen in love with me again?"
Matthew's face instantly turned red. Although he felt that he loved Roseane, he felt embarrassed when he saw her clear eyes.
He had never told Roseane about this before.
It had always been Roseane chasing after him, yet he had never expressed his love for her.
It was hard for him to confess his love for the time being.
Roseane waited for a long time. When she saw that he did not say a word, there was a hint of mockery in her eyes.
She had spent so many years on him but failed to make him fall in love with her. How could he change his mind in such a short period of time?
At the end of the day, her feeling was not mutual.
Roseane hid the emotions in her eyes and looked straight at Matthew with a hint of coercion.
"Since you don't love me, why are you still holding on to me? Isn't it better to part ways than staying in a marriage without love?"
"Of course not!" Matthew quickly denied.
He swallowed hard and thought carefully. "I... I promised before that I would take good care of you for the rest of my life. You have also suffered a lot because of me. How can I leave you like this?"
However, Roseane sneered. "You refused to divorce me just because of this?"
Matthew denied it in his heart, but he was still unwilling to admit it, "Of course, I swore in front of my uncle that I would take good care of you for the rest of my life."
"There's no need for you to do that," Roseane said.
Matthew frowned and carefully looked at Roseane.
"Don't... don't you need me to be responsible for you now?"
Roseane's eyelashes fluttered and she suddenly chuckled.
"Matthew, you're a good person."
Matthew was stunned. Why did she suddenly tell him that he was a good person?
"On the surface, you don't seem to care about anything, but in fact, you have your own principles. You will never go back on your words. You are usually not serious, but you are never ambiguous about important things."
Hearing her praise, Matthew suddenly felt a little embarrassed.
"I'm... I'm not as good as you said."
"It's the same this time. My mother's illness should have nothing to do with you. You didn't have to be responsible for that. But you came here to help me with the medical fees."
"This is what I should do."
"There's nothing that you should do." Roseane seriously interrupted him.
"The time when I was in danger and was in a coma due to the serious injury, it didn't have much to do with you too."
"It was me who had been forcing you to fall in love with me, and it was me who had made a mistake by getting drunk. At that time, I couldn't wake up because I didn't want to live anymore."
"It has always been my personal will. It's my fault. I shouldn't have forced you to do everything."
As Roseane spoke, she suddenly felt relieved. "There are many things in this world that cannot be forced."
"For example, love, and marriage."
Matthew's expression was very ugly. At the same time, a wave of panic rose in his heart. He did not understand why Roseane would suddenly say these things to him. At this moment, he was very uneasy.
"It's not your fault that you don't like me, so you don't have to be responsible for me."
Matthew panicked. He wanted to stand up, but Roseane reached out and pressed him back into the wheelchair.
"Your leg injury hasn't healed yet. Don't stand up anymore."
Matthew's lips quivered slightly. "I don't agree with what you said."
"Why?" Roseane smiled at him. "Am I not right?"
Matthew looked at her smiling face and was in a trance. He could not remember how long Roseane had not smiled at him like this.
"Whether you were in love with me at the beginning or not, whether Kezia appeared later or not, for so many years, the person who accompanied you was always me."
"I spent so many years but failed to let you notice me. I'm just useless."
Matthew quickly said, "It's not like that. It's not your fault. I was blind..."
"No, this has nothing to do with you." Roseane's tone was exceptionally calm. She did not have the slightest bit of resentment towards him. "I have been chasing behind you for so many years. It has been a long time. If I continue to pester you, I will look down on myself."
"Thank you very much for your appearance. You've been taking good care of me all these years. Without you, I won't be who I am today."
Matthew kept shaking his head. He wanted to say something, but Roseane covered his mouth with her hand and stopped him.
"I don't regret loving you." Roseane continued.
"But perhaps, if we start over with another person, it'll be better for both of us."
"Matthew, I don't want you to be responsible for me now. If you still care about our friendship, let go of me and divorce me."
There seemed to be something stuck in Matthew's throat, and he couldn't say a word.
Roseane looked at him gently with a faint smile in her eyes. It seemed that she had already let go of this feeling.
She no longer hated anyone, nor did she want to think if Matthew was now scheming against her.
She no longer loved anyone. It was too painful to fall in love with someone. She was already tired now after trying out for so long.
Her only wish now was to get rid of this hopeless marriage.
Then, she would restart everything and gain her freedom.
She wanted Matthew to let go, and she also wanted to completely forget... Matthew.
Thinking of this, Matthew's eyes were full of anger.
Roseane could take anything from him, but not love or freedom!
How could he let go? He had fallen in love with Roseane, so he would keep her by his side for the rest of his life.
If she left and stayed with another man...
Matthew couldn't breathe just by thinking about it.
He did not want to be a good person. As long as he could keep her by his side, so what if she hated him?
"No." Matthew pulled Roseane's hand away and said coldly.
Roseane frowned and looked at him in confusion. "Why exactly?"
Matthew thought about it for a while. He couldn't tell her the truth, nor could he be perfunctory.
He moved his legs, which had just been bandaged, and an idea occurred to him.
"My legs haven't recovered yet, and I'm afraid that I will be disabled for the rest of my life. Except for you, who would be willing to marry me and take care of me in such a subtle way?"
