Chapter Twenty
We all left the hall and I could see excitement on some people's faces but I could see the anxiety I was feeling on some people's faces too including the captain, I knew he knew there was something else going on, there wasn't anyone who would just wake up and decide to just get married, not someone like Iguro at least, he had access to so many men and had unlimited access to many women that he could free use anytime he wanted so why would he want to bind one in a form of marriage, or was it to punish the person for not consenting to something he wanted?
My thoughts went so wild, up to so many points, that I knew it shouldn't have gotten to. But anything could be a possibility at this point, for the three weeks I had spent in this world I hadn't seen or met Brielle mistakenly, and I was afraid all this might be related to her, I had this strange feeling and I went to the Captain, but just as I was leaving I met the Captain.
“I was just coming to meet you.” I said, “We have a mission to go on, Iguro had asked us to go on a secret mission, five of us, and we have to leave now.” He said, and the other three followed, we got on the horses and started to ride towards our destination, but once we got away from the gate, the Captain put on a compassionate look and I knew we were going to eliminate a clan again, but I felt we were too little to go on a mission like that, so what could it be that we were sent to do. I drove my horse near the captain.
“Captain, what is the mission this time?” I asked, but he didn't give me an answer, we got to where we were going and we only stood outside while the captain went inside, and gave something to someone and collected something, and he asked us to leave, what could they have exchanged and it stayed on my mind while we went back to the fence.
Days went by so fast and it was hours left to the ceremony the god had declared, we were all ready to see what was going to happen if my suspicion was true, there would be something else that was going to happen, but if not I would guess I was wrong, we all gathered at the place the ceremony was to take place and we had food and drinks placed on our tables, we were treated like guests, but no one could try to touch their food, everyone was still scared. It was a funny moment of hunger, beings not being able to eat because of fear.
Everyone sat still until he showed up himself, but he still showed up alone. Sitting on his chair as mysteriously as he does, it was a crazy pose that he always had that made my mind feel weird, he always had a demonic pose on that chair and it gave off a vibe that he was superior to every one of us.
“Why are you all not touching your food?” He said, as soon as he sat down, and everyone started looking at one another, trying to get the other one to start first, and Iguro started laughing suddenly, you guys are so wise, I never thought you guys would try to respect me this much, I thought you were all gluttons who came here for the food, that was why I had all the food served poisoned, a slow poison at that so you would have to die a slow and painful death.
But luckily, none of you had the guts and the balls to eat anything or taste anything before I got here. I say congratulations to you all.” He said, and everyone gasped in awe, and that made him furious. He stood up from where he was sitting and went to the first person he saw gasp, picked his head and forcefully opened his mouth put the food in the person's mouth, and made him swallow.
And he went back to his seat, after a minute, everyone was calm that he was just bluffing and that he only did that to scare us and food does not have poison like he claimed, but after two minutes, his eyes gouged out, blood dripping from his eyes and ears.
He was dear I thought, so unfortunate. He was made a scapegoat for every one of us, that was why he was feared so much and he had no rivals. But none of us knew what was to come but I knew what he just did was the beginning of what he was going to show us all. But why would he go to this extent to prove a point he hasn't even said yet?
Why is he this brutal? Questions no one but Iguro could answer lingered in my heart but Iguro wouldn't give an answer to useless questions like mine, and I wouldn't dare ask cause I didn't want to die, and death was just the end of everything, I would lose everything, and no chance I would get back my clan, it would just mean I wasted my whole time on earth just to die a useless death. I wouldn't risk it, but what happens when the devil picks you out of everyone? The devil pointed at me and asked me to come towards him, I was startled and I was fidgeting, why me?
A lot of questions popped into my head at that moment, and only one answer was absolute and that was death, I was going to die. Nobody meets the devil and escapes, and no one stays with the devil without having a price to pay, my price now is death, but I still patiently awaited what he would ask me to do. This was the ultimate test.
