Chapter 22: Was saving my mate a right choice?

My body shivers weakly by the first hit across my back. Alexander pack members who had come to watched cheered; enjoyed watching the deadly alpha being punished.

“Let him suffer!” they cheered on their alpha.

My hands and knees became numb pressing hard against the rough concrete floor; trying to bear the terrible pain. I clench my teeth as my back burns like a fire; and glanced at my two-pack members as they watch their alpha beaten, not being able to do anything. One of my men fell to the floor onto his knees, seeing his powerful alpha treated as he was nothing.

“Ha!” I shouted; raising my head into the dark sky, being struck again.

“Another!” the people kept on shouting.

“Alpha please don't do this,” my men cried; begging to let him stop.

I could not. The burning pain against my back haunted me, reminding me of punishing my mate. If I do choose to stop, she will receive the remaining punishment.

Alexander grabbed me by my hair pulling my face to his; knowing I could not try to fight him during the punishment.

“I'm having a wonderful time punishing the deadly alpha,” he said as he laughed.

“Are you enjoying it as well?” he asked the crowd happily.

“Yes,” the people answered as they laughed.

“Please let him stop, please sir,” my men cried as they watched helplessly.

Alexander unhands my long dark hair; allowing my neck to jerk and strikes me. I clenched my teeth tightly by the sharp pain against my back as he kept on hitting me repeatedly. Red blood ran from my back slowly dripping onto the ground. I fell flat on my stomach onto the ground not being able to bear the horrible beating anymore.

“He had gotten enough hits!” I heard one of my men shouted at Alexander.

I felt my enemy place his foot to rest against my bloody back; not hitting me anymore.

“Remember the punishment is not for killing but for teaching a lesson,” my men had reminded him.

Alexander threw the long whip into the large crowd; that was now stained by my blood. A warm feeling ran through my body feeling thankful I had allowed my two men to accompany me. If not, I would surely be dead.

I growled in pain, while Alexander pressed down his hard shoe against my injured back.

“I wish I had claw off your neck instead of beating you; you piece of shit,” Alexander cursed me.

Suddenly I felt something wet run down my forehead. It was not blood but spit. Alexander walked across my back, stepping heavily as if I was the ground itself. I growled even more in pain, breathing heavily. Feeling his hard shoe pressing into my deep cuts against my back.

“Go on home,” he chases his pack member as if they were nothing to him.

Terrified of him. They all ran off quickly.

Soon it was only four of us. My two men ran towards me. Both helped me off the floor placing my hand across their shoulder assisting me to walk.

“You always seem to get what you want, deadly alpha?” Alexander said angrily.

I said nothing as my men carried me off.

“You are nothing deadly alpha,” Alexander said out loud as we went off into the dark.

“Look how I treated you tonight; you are nothing!” he again shouted out loud.

My men fought hard in carrying me home. Along the way, there was nothing but silence, but still, I could feel how angry they were with me. I saw Helix coming from the back of the house as I entered my yard, knowing I had returned. He froze, seeing the bad condition I was in. Quickly, he rushed over to me.

“What the fuck happened?” he asked worriedly.

My men assisting me stood silently, while Helix stood in front of us like a closed gate preventing us from taking another step.

“What happened?” he again asked with a crack in his voice as if he was about to cry.

I lower my head staring at the reflection of the moonlight on the ground.

“Why didn't you let me come with you as well, alpha Liam?” he inquired me; eager to know what happened.

Even though I was in great pain, I was happy he did not come, for what occurred tonight would surely be ruin and too turn out into a war.

Staring at the green grass I finally answered him.

“What had happened to me is my choice?” I told him as I now stare at him.

His worried eyes examine my entire body, determine to know why I was so gravely injured.

“I don't understand sir?” Helix said.

“Did Alexander do this to you?!” he shouted. I'm going to capture him and make him pay for hurting you sir,” Helix continued.

“No,” I stopped him. “I had to do this in saving my mate,” I finally told him.

Soon there was nothing, but silence.

“My mate is inside,” I again told him as I smiled.

Helix continued to stand still saying nothing. Finally, he spoke.

“I'm happy for you sir,” he said softly.

“Carry me inside,” I ordered my men, wanting to sit down. My body was tired and needed to rest.

They carried me around Helix's muscular body, while he stood still.

Suddenly I heard him spoke. My heart pumped heavily within my chest, surprised by his question. My men stopped; allowing me to stand 3 feet away from my door. They, too, were eager for my answer.

“Sacrificing your body for her, do you think she will accept you; knowing what you had done to her?” Helix inquired me.

Tears filled my dark eyes; sadden by his terrible questions.

“Keeping your mate locked up inside, and allowing me or anyone of your pack members to watch over her will not win over her heart no matter how you try,” Helix again said.

His words echoed within my head haunting me. Helix was not only a great fighter but too was smart. I should have known ordering him to watch over my mate, while I am gone, he would surely figure out what was happening. Several thoughts started to run through my mind wondering; if he had gone into my house while I was gone.

“Alpha Liam,” Helix called me.

I glanced at him beaten by his words.

“Do you think it was the right choice saving her tonight?” he asked me.

“Carry me inside now!” I shouted at my men.

I did not want to hear any of Helix's questions anymore.

“You know I'm right sir,” he again said as I got close to the door.

“Stop here,” I ordered my men, while we now stood close to my door.

I glanced behind me and saw that Helix was gone. Doubts consumed my mind; knowing he was right. I did not want my mate to suffer anymore and I loved her that is why I took her terrible punishment. I detested what I was thinking, but I too think saving her things would somehow change between us. I shut my eyes tightly and clenched my teeth feeling foolish to ever thought so.

“Are you alright sir?” one of my men inquired me worried.

“I'm fine,” I answered him softly' as I slowly open my dark eyes.

I was now worried, about my mate rejecting me. Fear crept through my body like a snail haunting me. I stared at my closed door; knowing my little Avery is inside not waiting for me but planning to escape. I felt my wolf within me howled sadly. I had to create a plan now before I spin the doorknob. I had to know now; if what I did tonight will turn out as a great disappointment to me and a big joke to not only my pack members, but also to my enemy Alexander. I watched one of my men as he moved his hand to open my door.

Suddenly something hit me. It was not easy to think of such a thing, but I had to do it; even though it will only affect me and that was to push her away. I had to do so in seeing if she will ever be mine.
