Chapter 58|When Two Friends Reunite.
.....
Alexander's hands tightened around Isabelle's midriff. She felt the sound of his wildly galloping heartbeat, without thinking twice, she ran her palms over his wrist to soothe the tempest raging in him before continuing with her speech.
"It was supposed to finish me off, she fed it to me herself and I felt a pain unlike anything I'd ever felt before, I saw myself in another person's eyes like my soul was being wrenched out of my body. I grappled and shook with the aftershocks of the pain caused by the drug. Unbeknownst to her, the drug was the same as the one given to me as a young girl to lose my memories and take me the Forest of Eyre." She stopped as realization dawned on some of them.
"The herb instead of killing you brought back your memories." Old Bea whispered lovingly and in a daze. The puzzle in her head fitting perfectly.
She wasn't told of the reason for Isabelle's disappearance but she'd always known it was a strategic decision taken by the great Christopher Knight of the Bane Pack for reasons she couldn't exactly say. What she has always known was the fact that Isabelle was alive unlike how others thought her dead.
Isabelle nodded in accord to Old Bea's words, "Yes my memories returned after I went through the pain phase and my reaction to it made her thought my spasms were symptoms of me dying. From there I lost consciousness and felt like I was watching my whole life in a dream from when I was taken away from my Pack for protection to the end of it, or what they thought to be that. She left me with my mouth foaming from the after-effects of being fed that portion without knowing the true effects of what she'd done." Isabelle smirked. "I wasn't born with a wolf but I was born with tons of abilities and they all returned in full force alongside memories of my past."
"Abilities like what?" Alexander asked to her ear.
"My senses are hightened much more than any other average person's. I can disappear and blend into shadows, and my hair serves as a key and a guide to everything, it protects me and," She turned to Alexander who was staring at her, mouth agape. "My hair does glow in the dark or whenever I am in need of its help just like it did that one time in your apartment. It was a gift I inherited from my werewolf mother, the Fae blood that runs in us is as strong as the one that runs in the Opium Pack members, Francis here has some of it but hasn't embraced his powers. That's why the connection between us is strong. You see, I am a result of a werewolf and a human so I was born with no wolf but with my mother's powers." She admitted, chuckling lightly at the feel of the Alpha's hold tightening over her midriff.
With a titillating gaze, she assured him she was his. Mind, body and soul. Forever.
"I heard footsteps coming close to my cell room and blended into the shadows leaving the stain of blood they'd left on me on the ground. Leah walked in alongside Sylvester Skorr, she assured him that I was dead but he could not find it in himself to believe because there was no corpse to prove my death, they argued some more before leaving as fast as they came. In their words I realized their motives had a bigger and more influential person behind them, Skorr was agitated that 'he' as they refer to the unknown man wasn't going to be happy about how the situation changed and was fearful of the man's reaction if he hears that they'd lost the prisoner." She squeezed Alexander's palm in her hand, turned her head to Old Bea and saw the effects of Leah's betrayal swimming in the pool of her eyes.
"We never saw it coming. I've never smelt a bad omen in Leah, I don't know what changed her or if she was always waiting for the slightest opportunity to strike and show her true colours, this brings forth a lot of questions regarding her own background. We need to check on that too, my Alpha." The Old woman explained.
"That will be necessary. I cornered Arabella and forced her to show me where you were kept because the odds of them being unaware was too high. She did after a series of threats, she confessed almost everything but not their benefactor's identity, " Alexander surmised, "She needs to be guarded closely, we can't risk her turning back on her words." His eyes were focused on his brother's as he spoke. Across the room Lucas acknowledged his brother with a barely perceptible nod, agreeing to take care of that part.
"Skorr, Ives and the other Elders involved will be dealt with according to their wrongs." The Alpha promised.
Old Bea rose to her feet, her jaw squared and clenched hard. "Bring in Arabella and shut all doors that could have Leah escaping. I want the girl alive and breathing, no traitor of ours will roam around this earth freely. It cannot be." She stood her formidable ground, her fingers were shaking from anger. Anger directed at Leah's involvement and the charade she played with them, the crocodile tears she shed at Isabelle's loss and the whole role she played.
A few minutes later, Arabella was ushered into the room by a soldier. Clad in a purple shirt and shorts, she looked from one person to the other, her eyes widening at the sight of Isabelle on Alexander's lap.
"Isabelle." She whispered, unable to stop herself from speaking. She had no idea that Isabelle truly was alive. To see her in the flesh and staring back at her regally had her sighing in utmost relief.
She honestly did thought her dead.
The feelings swirling round in her chest were uncountable. She felt relief and at the same time she felt scared that Isabelle's memories might have returned. It could be a good thing to her or a bad. Her heart pounded vigorously at the thought of which of the two the other girl's feelings towards her might be.
"Hello Arabella," Isabelle greeted, getting off Alexander's lap in a swift move. Calmly assuring him that she was okay.
She stopped a few feet away from Arabella, gave her a once-over and placed her hand over the other girl's arm. Isabelle felt the immediate buzz of awareness run through her, she felt the uncertainty swimming through the other girl's veins from the contact, she felt the fear, the ignorance of a lot of situations, the manipulation done to her, the anxiety and the strong will to accept her one true mate. But the strongest feeling she felt in her was that of uncertainty.
Arabella bristled at the touch, it made her feel weak. She wasn't used to being on the receiving end of someone's perusal. She was used to being the one doing the perusal. The uncertainty waging a war with so many what ifs pulled hard at the strings of her heart.
Isabelle whispered a question to her, one she knew was probably heard by everyone else in the room because of the keen and rapt attention they had on them. "Why?"
The one-syllable word pointed at all directions in several angles. Arabella couldn't say which one Isabelle particularly meant.
Was it why did she act like she had no memories of her prior to Isabelle's memory's return?
Or why she chose to be with the bad guys?
Or why she chose to disregard her former best friend?
Tons of questions landed on Arabella hitting her square in the chest. However, before she was able to respond, the sound of knuckles hitting the doors and the subsequent sound of the door being turned open in a brisk move captured everyone's attention and they all stared at a disheveled looking Damon barging in, a man commended for his impassive and emotionless nature. He looked furious the veins corded around his neck through the space his shirt allowed to be visible were thick and protruding. His wolf was on the brink of taking over.
Alexander moved to his feet, his stance rigid and mind ready for the blow that was inevitably coming.
