Chapter 64|The Enemy.
.....
**Isabelle's P O V.
"What did you think about his return? Were you expecting it?" My grandfather asked.
Arabella shook her head in the negative, "The shock that came with Isabelle's return far surpassed that of the Alpha's. The target moved from him to you, we knew that getting rid of you the second time wouldn't be as hard as it was the first time even though I was young when my grandpa first targeted you." She explained.
My eyes were narrowed as a knock came through the door. My grandfather responded to the person behind the doors in the positive and we all three looked as the knob was turned.
Arabella's eyes widened as my Uncle Drake walked into the room, she probably remembered him as Alpha but he gave no hint of recalling her as he took me into his arms, scratch that, he barely even noticed her. The Alpha engulfed me in a tight hug and I wrapped my own arms around him in return, reciprocating his affection.
We both breathed deep into each other's scents. He let go of me only to give me a once-over before taking me in again until my feet were dangling in the air.
"Release my granddaughter you brute." Christopher Knight playfully ordered and his son did nothing but pull me in tighter. "Okay you're cutting off her windpipe, she's struggling to breathe can't you see? Someone should tell him to let go, Luna, do us the honors of taking your brute of a mate away."
"Don't blame him. I'm aching for my turn too. I can't believe my sweet girl truly is back." She completed the sentence with a sigh as her husband and mate transferred me into her arms from his.
"Welcome back my lovely dear. You're all grown up and we missed you so much." She ran her hands over my arm wearing a very genuine smile.
Aunt Angelina has always been a very polite, kindhearted woman with a genuine heart and a soothing voice. She cared for me in all honesty after my parent's death and I for one do not forget a kind person.
"Oh don't mind our fussing, you were just terribly missed and mourned, I'm sure you're famished from your trip and oh, blimey! Who's your friend?" She asked, her pearly white teeth grinning at Arabella who looked like a deer caught in the headlights. "Welcome dear." She addressed the stricken girl whose eyes were glued to my Uncle's.
I summoned courage and moved as quick as my legs could to her side, my Uncle's gaze was transfixed on us as though he was trying to recall a missing memory. Probably trying to figure out why she looked familiar.
To cut off his hardship, I took her wrist in my hands. Her body was ice cold and the anxiety, fear and uncertainty I felt in her shook me to the core. I felt bad for her and instinctively moved in a protective gesture in front of her paying no heed to my grandfather's unwavering stare.
"Uncle Drake, Aunt Angelina, meet Arabella Swift, the late Natalie Miles's daughter." My words came out a tad bit rushed.
Recognition sliced through the Alpha's eyes, the shock of my revelation bringing him to heel.
A sort of palpable tension settled into the room getting rid of the tranquility and happiness formerly fixated in it.
My Uncle's impulsive rage literally shook the room. He was reminded of the betrayal, the treachery and the deceit all at once. Subconsciously, his wife wrapped her arms around her furious mate whose fury reverberated throughout the room. The silence that followed after my words was deafening.
The moment my Uncle regained his senses, with a calm I second-guessed, he took his mate's hands off him. The sound of his feet hitting the floor had me on alert, he stopped only when he was a mere two feet away from the both of us and I caught the glimmer of darkness in his orbs. His wolf was near.
"Alpha!" His wife called out in tandem to his hand shooting out and curving around Arabella's neck. I stood between them urging him to let go but was met with resistance. It felt like he was made of stone. The hold wasn't tight but it made Arabella's eyes pop out like they were on the verge of falling out.
The Luna frantically made her way to us, calling him out of the reverie that had him acting on his feelings, succumbing to his palpable rage and letting his unleashed anger take control of his person. She wrapped her arms around him, rubbing her hand over his chest and I felt when his hand loosened completely from the chokehold and Arabella moved out of his reach as fast as she could with tears springing out of her eyes.
I was shocked by her reaction. Who could've thought Arabella to be capable of having emotions and handing them the reins to her life.
"What the hell is the traitor doing within my territory? What guts do you have to come into my land?" He thundered, the ground shook with his voice. His veins popping out.
"She's my guest." My grandfather whispered loud enough to be heard by everyone within the room and all heads whiplashed to where he was lying on the bed.
"What do you mean she's your guest? We don't entertain traitors who kill one of us in cold blood in our own home. You taught me that Father." He growled, his eyes fixated on Arabella who was literally shivering on her spot.
"This is an exception, we're giving her a chance to prove that she can be a changed person for good. Any realization that she's straying from her point in being here gives you the right as Alpha to use your authority over her but as for now, she is my and my Isabelle's guest." He explained.
A calm settled over my Uncle's features and I noticed the soothing circles his wife was still running over his arms. She was glued to his side as though afraid that a lapse from her will have him attacking the girl as he formerly did.
"You girls must be suffering from jetlag, and I hear there's a welcoming party to be held for my beautiful princess. You need your rest and you need to get ready for the occasion and I'm sure your aunt here is dying for details about all that she has missed in your life." We took the hint and walked out of the room but not before I placed a kiss to the top of my grandfather's head and heard Aunt Angelina whisper "Behave." into her mate's ear.
His first words to his Father after the doors got shut behind us were, "I don't trust this vile creature and for good reason. I hate everything and anything that reminds me of her bloody kin, it makes me..." His words trailed off as we turned the corner and I sighed at the drama that was likely to follow after the whole Pack gets alerted of her visit and especially her presence in their sanctuary.
