Chapter 68|Second Chance.
....
Leah's chin wobbled at Martin's vehemence to see her punished for a crime that wasn't her fault. Her heart raged with ire and hatred for the men who were deliberately refusing to acknowledge and appreciate her efforts.
"But.. But I've lost all I have! You can't mean to... You said you.. I can't be punished for something that isn't my fault. If I didn't want Isabelle gone I wouldn't have brought her to you in the first place. You're forgetting what vital role I play in this! Without me you still would've been playing a game rounding the table to get her thanks to Arabella but I made your wish come true effectively."
Martin's face turned beet red and his hand went down the table in a loud thud.
Everyone went quiet after his action.
His face was menacing as he lowered his voice, "Then why did you let her out of the cell room? Not even the guards had a clue of her movements and it was you who was last seen with her. Tell me Mayleigh, what are you hiding from us? Tell us willingly or we'll wring it out of you forcefully."
She shuddered imagining the sorts of torture Isabelle was subjected to tried on herself.
"There's nothing I'm hiding! I promise you this. I have nothing to hide, I lost Isabelle at the cell room too and never saw her again. I fed her the drug, I watched as she thrashed, her life was taken before my very own eyes. Listen to me, you need to listen. You're deviating from the problem, our traitor here isn't me, it's Arabella, she has told Alexander of all your plans, I fled before my involvement in the case was made known to the public and I know they would've found a way to wring out answers from me. I ran because I had to save your identity. I was honor bound to keep your existence a secret. I shouldn't be punished for that." She cried.
"You left Staten Island because you couldn't bear the thought of them punishing you for the part you played in this charade. Your actions are purely sefish if I may be straightforward with you." Dimitri interjected.
Leah fought the urge to go ballistic on the unyielding men. She was still reeling from Skorr's betrayal. She couldn't believe just how fast he neatly took off the part he took in their game and made it seem like she did it all on her own.
"Martin. Arabella is on the verge of disclosing your identity to your sworn enemy if she hasn't already, she is breaking down all the efforts and rails of success you've been building for so many years for purely selfish reasons. Can't you see that she's letting Alexander be with Isabelle so she coud have Luke all to herself? She's self centered, destroying your formidable walls and revealing the foe your next possible moves and all of your plans. I am not the target here, she is." Leah rasped.
"The same Isabelle you claim to be dead? What brings her back to the equation, I thought she was out of it." Martin snickered, "Is there something you're not telling us Mayleigh? Or you'd rather we find out on our own the same way we realized that you brought a different woman to us?"
Leah's eyes shut close on impulse. True, her source from the Pack security informed her the moment Isabelle and Francis returned to the Pack from God knows where. How the Beta was able to get her stunned Leah and proved to be a mystery to her because she couldn't believe that the same person she left on the brink of dying was the same as the one she saw through her car walking beside the Beta in a regal manner. Her back was straight and exuding a very obvious dainty confidence even from Leah's view. Her heart had skipped several beats at the sight only returning to normal when the reality and weight of the situation fully dawned on her.
Fuck! She'd swore.
Francis already had his suspicions regarding her innocence in the case, she knew he did not believe in her story of how she'd lost Isabelle. How Isabelle was able to get him or how he was able to find her made the logical thoughts in Leah's head flee to space.
At that point she knew her chances of survival were slim because Isabelle's consciousness meant her demise.
With a crude curse she alerted the security who informed her of the girl's return and fled as though the hounds of hell were at her heels with enough resources until she found Martin.
In all honesty, she wanted to hide that piece of information from him but her little slip made it impossible to be hidden and she had no choice but to tell them all she knew to save her ass from being punished. The lecherous look Skorr was giving her gave her an idea of what their punishment implied.
"Hm? Should I take your silence as there's nothing more I'm supposed to know that I don't? Or..." He let the last part of the sentence hanging in the air. It was enough to have her gathering the words to tell instantly.
Leah raised her palms to the table between them. "Isabelle returned to the De Luca Pack manor bearing no scar nor wound, looking as healthy as the term connotes and with Francis Rossi, the Pack's Beta as though they were returning from a leisure stroll. How he came upon her or how she got to him is as mysterious to me as it is to you. I couldn't believe my eyes, I'm still finding it very hard to believe that the Isabelle I left shuddering from the aftermath of the drug is the same one I saw walking into the manor wearing a haughty look. It was like everything and everyone was beneath her feet. I fled before word came out that I was part of her abduction because there was no other way out for me. For Isabelle there's nothing Alexander won't do, I promise you this. He's as obsessed with her as you are to seeing her dead." She took in all of their expressions with pride, "Isabelle might be a threat to my life but Arabella poses a bigger threat to all of us, she has information that could ruin us all. She knows about facts that I don't. She knows where you guys could be found. She's dangerous, lethal even."
Martin looked to be in great thought, after some time he asked, "What do you suggest we do?" He looked to be interested in all she had to say.
Leah grinned inwardly at the power of having the opportunity to ruin the girl she hates most, after Isabelle, but as the saying goes, 'One step at a time'.
"I say we get rid of her, eliminate her, she's a worse threat to all of you here than Isabelle was or will ever be. Besides, I have information worth diamonds." She threw her hair over one shoulder dramatically, relishing in their unwavering attention to her speech.
"What might that be?" Dimitri asked.
"I know where both Arabella and Isabelle are at the moment, they're with the Bane Pack's handicapped former Alpha, Christopher Knight, within the territory and sturdy protection of the Bane Pack." She surmised, grinning inwardly at the looks of surprise covering their faces.
Bull's eye, Leah thought smirking to herself.
"Let's show them how much they cannot depend and lean on men who cannot protect themselves. We strike in their humble abode when they're least expecting it. I say we pay them a surprise visit."
