Chapter 13

Chapter 13
Emil’s POV
I was in my study going through the reports for the past 30 days when a knock sounded on the door, I cursed out loud, what did a man have to do get some work done in his house? It had been one distraction after the other since I woke up, I had sent Marco and Antonio on their merry way to plan their party and could finally get some work done and now, someone was knocking at the door again.
“Come in” I said as I folded my hands waiting to hear the reason for this particular interruption.
The door opened and one of the bodyguards walked in, I asked him to keep an eye on Andrea and her guests after Marco and Antonio had left, there hadn’t been a particular reason as to why I asked him to but seeing that he was here, I figured something had happened.
“Don Ferrari, I noticed something strange and I was not sure if it was important or not but I felt I should tell you all the same” Martin said.
“What is it that you noticed?” I asked him.
“Angelo Severino has left but now, the bodyguard is speaking with the Donna” he said.
“I am sorry but did you say the bodyguard is speaking with my wife?” I asked not sure why I was bothered that she was talking to Lorenzo.
Martin looked puzzled for a second then he said “Do you really want me to repeat it Don Ferrari?” he looked genuinely puzzled.
I quickly gathered my composure and said “Thank you Martin, you can go back and rest, I will handle it from here”
Martin nodded his head and said “Yes Don Ferrari”
Martin turned around and walked out of the room and I was suddenly left with my thoughts.
I could just forget about her and carry on with my work, it was not my business who she spent her time with but somehow it nagged at the back of my mind, I had already noticed a tenderness between them when they spoke earlier and now, her brother was leaving her alone to speak with the so called bodyguard.
I sat up at once, I did not like things bugging my mind and this definitely bugged my mind.
Taking a deep breath, I walked out of the room and headed in the direction of the garden, I saw them under the umbrellas, the table had been set and filled with all manner of cakes and drinks, this was Wilma outdoing herself trying to feed everyone to an early grave but that was the least of my worries, my biggest worry were the two people that were seated behind the table, it did not take a genius to realize that there was definitely something amiss between the both of them, he was looking at her like she was only one that existed in his entire world and she was crying.
Anger bubbled to the surface at once and I wanted nothing more than to see that bastard bleed, just when I thought I could ignore it and walk away, I saw him lean over and brush the tears from her eyes.
I saw red immediately and I began walking towards them, I was not sure what I was going to do but I just had to make sure that he was far away from her.
As I got closer, a bit of their conversation floated into my ears “You need to leave Lorenzo” I heard Andrea said.
For some reason, I felt that was all I needed to hear, she did not want him here and that was all that mattered to me.
They had not heard my approach so I decided to make my presence known to them “Do you mind taking your hands off my wife or do I have to make you?” I said and I realized that the fact that he was touching her bothered me a lot.
Her eyes darted in my direction and I saw the fear register on her face, I hated the fact that she was scared of me, it was as though she expected the worst from me, that thought was enough to quell every violent thought I had had before approaching them.
Lorenzo looked at me and his eyes darkened immediately, there was a danger and malice in the way he looked at me, I could recognize the look of a dangerous man because I was a dangerous man.
“I do not really want to” he said, I saw the challenge in his eyes.
This man was definitely Lorenzo DeLuca, a man as I knew to be a dangerous and arrogant man, he had no business being close to my family.
“Lorenzo, what are you doing? Let me go” Andrea said and pulled her hand from his hold.
I saw the feelings of hurt and surprise register on his face as he looked down at his hand.
That felt like victory already, I did not to do anything anymore, nothing destroyed a man more than being disgraced by a woman he loved.
I started to walk toward her, the fear was still evident on her face, she still believed I was going to do something bad to Lorenzo or her maybe even her.
When I got to where she was standing, I looked at Lorenzo and he was staring daggers at me, from his eyes I could tell that he wanted to strike me dead if he could, Lorenzo DeLuca had never been a man that took well to been challenged and he acted even poorly when he failed that challenge.
I ignored him and returned my attention to Andrea who was looking like she had held her breath entirely because of my presence.
A sudden need to protect her suddenly overwhelmed me and I leaned forward and took her in mind, I heard her gasp in surprise but she said nothing, her eyes were staring into mine but I knew she could not really see me.
“Let’s go” I said to her and began to lead her away, I could feel Lorenzo’s eyes on me as I walked away, I had already walked a distance when I decided I was not going to let him off like that, he needed a warning to make him remember that he could not touch what belonged to me and that the next time something like that happened, he would have to deal with the wrath of Emil Ferrari.
So with Andrea’s hand still in mine, I turned to look at him, my eyes fixed on his and with the same anger and venom with which he was staring at me and said “And as for you the next time I see you anywhere near my house or anywhere close to my wife, you will die and this is a Don’s promise to you”
Lorenzo’s eyes narrowed his eyes but said nothing.
I turned back and continued my walk to the house.
“Emil” I heard her say.
It was the first time she had said my name, she had always been stubborn about saying my name and I was sure she wasn’t going to realize it until I pointed it out.
“You finally said my name” I said to her, I had a small smile on my face.
It was funny to see the surprise register on her face and then she went silent, she was speechless and I smiled once more.
It was nice to walk with her like this but I had to do something about the dark presence behind us.
