Chapter 14
Lorenzo’s POV
I walked into the house and went straight to the bar liquor cabinet, I grabbed the first bottle of whiskey my hand could reach and removed the cap, I raised it to my lips and drank as much as I could, the liquid burned a part from my throat down to my stomach and by the time I removed the bottle from my lips, my throat was burning and my eyes were watering.
But somehow it was not enough to dull the pain and rage I was feeling, Andrea had asked me to leave, she had chosen to go along with Emil Ferrari, she had asked me to leave and that had been the biggest disgrace to me.
“Are you okay Lorenzo?” I heard Anna said.
I leaned against the cabinet, taking deep breaths and while I tried to stabilize my breathing, I could not wipe the image of Andrea walking away with Emil out of my mind and it just fueled my rage.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and I shoved it off “Leave me alone Anna, I am not in the mood for your antics right now” I said.
My voice sounded like sand against sandpaper.
“What the hell has come over you Lorenzo? Why are you acting in this manner?” Anna asked me as she grabbed my shoulder and turned me to look at her.
“I am fine Anna, can you just leave me alone for once and mind your damn business?” I shouted at her and shoved her hand off once more.
Anna gave me a look that bothered between anger, pain and disappointment.
I turned back to the cabinet and grabbed the bottle again, I was about to open it when Anna pulled it from my grasp.
“I will not let you ruin yourself like this, what the hell is wrong you Lorenzo? Do you think you have the time for this? Your enemies are breathing fine and living their best lives and here you are drowning yourself in a bottle of whiskey” Anna yelled at me.
“I do not care Anna, I do not care right now” I shouted right back.
Anna went silent and then she said “Do not tell me you are acting in this manner because of the Severino girl?” she had an incredulous look on her face.
I turned away from her because I did not want her to see the pain and rage flash in my eyes.
A sound of bewilderment left Anna’s lips and then she said “You have got to be kidding me, I warned you to stay away from that girl, I told you that noting good can from it and now look at you, acting like a deranged lunatic because of her”
“Anna can you just shut your mouth? The sound of your voice is killing me” I said as I felt my head begin to pound and a headache slowly creeping in.
“Look at yourself, what were you thinking falling in love with a woman you were supposed to kill? What did you think you could possibly come from it” Anna said to me.
Her voice was making my headache worst and she was not ready to shut up anytime soon so I grabbed the nearest bottle filled with amber liquid and smashed it on the floor, it hit the ground with a loud bang and the glass scattered in every direction.
A yelp escaped Anna and she stepped back quickly shielding her face from the flying glass projectiles.
I stood there taking deep breaths and watching the liquid stain the cream colored rug.
Anna was quiet for a while then she said “I am sorry Lorenzo, I was not aware that your feeling for her ran so deep, I was trying to stop you from getting hurt that was the reason I told you to stay away from her from the start”
My breathing had started to even out now and I was no longer having irrational thoughts.
I had no reason to hold on to Andrea anymore, it was time to focus on my mission, she had chosen her path and I will have to choose mine.
“I am sorry Anna, I lost control for a minute but I am fine now” I said as I raised my head to look at Anna.
She had a look on her face that told me she did not think I was fine but instead she said “I know we both want revenge for our parent’s death but I really hope I do not lose you in the process, you are the only family I have left, Lorenzo”
“I am sorry Anna for my behavior but you do not need to worry about me, I am fine, I promise” I said to Anna.
She was about to say something but I quickly cut her short by saying “Is the first phase of the plan complete?”
Anna gave me look and for a moment, I thought she wasn’t going to reply but then she said “Not yet, they will be ready in two days”
I shook my head and said “Two days is too much time, I want the job to be done by tomorrow night”
“We can not afford any mistakes so we need to take our time to prepare everything” Anna said.
“You already have all the information you need to make this operation a success so why the delay?” I asked her.
“They said they will be ready in two days’ time so we should give them the two days they asked for” Anna said.
“I do not have time for delays, inform them that I want the job done tomorrow night and that is final” I said.
Anna wanted to say something but I was not ready to listen to it.
“This discussion is over, I need to get back before my absence is noticed” I said.
Anna said nothing for a while then she said “I will make sure everything is ready for tomorrow night”
“Thank you Anna, what will I do without you” I said and walked towards her, I placed a kiss on her forehead and walked away.
It was time for the Severino family to feel a taste of their own medicine.
