Anna walked into her house feeling exhausted and drained out, she was cursing her luck, of all the men she could have slept with, it had to be Antonio Ferrari and of all the people who could have helped her with finding her way around that massive house, it had to be Marco Ferrari, Anna could not believe what rotten luck she had.
She kicked off her heels and headed in the direction of her room, all she wanted to do was soak up in the hot tub and fall right asleep after that.
“Where were you all night?” Lorenzo said from on top the stairs.
Anna looked up to find Lorenzo standing on top of the stairs, his hands in trouser pockets and his eyes looked wild.
Anna cursed her luck once more, she was not ready to deal with any of her brother’s drama right now.
“I was busy” Anna replied and started climbing the stairs, she just had to get past him and get to her room.
“You spent the whole night in the Ferrari mansion didn’t you?” Lorenzo asked.
“Is there a problem with that?” Anna asked, she was getting frustrated with his questions already.
“You were supposed to come back home so we could discuss our next step of action” Lorenzo said.
“Oh for heaven’s sake Lorenzo, it was one night and my last plan was a success, everything went up in flames, dramatic and with a lot of flair, so let me have a break for one night before I start coming up with more diabolical plans” Anna snapped as she brushed her hair out her face.
“You sound like this is all you, we are both in this together” Lorenzo said, his eyes darkening as he looked at her.
“I do the background work, you do the more open part of our work, I do the thinking, you do the heavy lifting so forgive me if I needed one night off” Anna said.
“You should not speak to me like that Anna” Lorenzo said, his voice had gotten dangerously low but Anna was not paying attention, she was frustrated and tired.
“Perhaps you forget I am the older one here, I am your older sister and you do not get to me ask questions about what I am doing” Anna said.
“I have protected you since we were kids and now you talk about being the older one, don’t be daft Anna, you would have gotten anywhere without me” Lorenzo said.
Anna could not help rolling her eyes “For heaven’s sake Lorenzo, no one asked you to do anything, you took the whole thing to the extreme, I was fine without you doing anything, I was fine then and I will definitely be fine now, if we are being honest, I am being more care than you are being, you are reckless and your obsession with Andrea Severino will be your undoing” she said.
“Don’t mention her name!” Lorenzo snapped, his hands flew out of his pockets and formed fists by his side.
“You should not be a hypocrite Lorenzo, you know I am telling you the truth” Anna snapped.
“That is enough Anna, stop speaking about Andrea, I do not want you mentioning her in any of our conversations ever again” Lorenzo said.
Anna scoffed and said “If you want to carry on with your Hippocratic behavior then it is really all good but don’t you dare speak to me like you are the boss of me, I deserve my respect because this whole plan of our will be nowhere without me because your recklessness would have gotten you killed a long time ago”
Lorenzo snapped and before Anna could process what was happening, he was standing in front of her, gripping her throat and pressing hard.
Anna’s eyes flew open in surprise and pain, she could not believe that Lorenzo was choking her.
“What the fuck are you trying to do Lorenzo, let me go” Anna struggled to say but it was difficult with the increasing pressure on her throat.
“You don’t get to speak to me the way you like Anna, you think I am loser, don’t you? You think I am losing my mind as well right?” he said, his eyes were wild and dangerous.
Anna realized quickly she was in trouble and if she did not do something about it quickly, the situation could escalate even faster than it already had.
“Lorenzo, I don’t think you are loser, I love you, you are my brother, I swear” Anna said with difficulty.
“Liar, you think I am crazy” Lorenzo said and pressed harder on her neck.
Anna felt her head getting lighter and lighter, she was beginning to fade out, she tapped on his hand around her neck weakly, silently pleading with him to let her go.
Just when her eyes were about to lull and close, he let go of her roughly, Anna fell to the ground in a fit of rasping coughs and strangled breaths, her eyes wide as she scrambled away from Lorenzo before he decided to hurt her even further.
“Let this be the last time you argue with me Anna, I will not be so forgiving next time” Lorenzo said, his voice was dangerously low and threatening.
Anna nodded her head quickly “I understand” she managed to say through the pain in her throat.
Lorenzo looked at her like she was the lowest of scum before turning around and heading back to his bedroom.
Anna sat there on the floor, too stunned to even move, she could not begin to think that Lorenzo had just tried to kill her and he could have done it if he wanted to, she had survived only by his mercy.
Anna had always prayed that she did not lose her brother in a quest for revenge and it seemed like she had finally lost him.
The tears came slowly at first but then they began to pour in torrents, she placed her hand over mouth to muffle the sound of the crying.
“Come now, Miss Anna, let’s get you to your room” one of her maids said as she helped her to her feet.
Anna could not even control her tears anymore, she felt so alone and more than ever, she missed her parents, things had been perfect when they were alive, she cursed the Severino family for ruining her life, she wanted to see them suffer but now, she had lost her brother in the process.
“Please don’t cry Miss Anna, I beg you” the maid said as she led her to her room.
Anna could barely put one foot in front of the other but she managed it mostly out of fear that Lorenzo might come out of his room and decide to finish what he had started.
Once she was in her room, her maid led her to her bed which she fell right into, the sobs escaping her throat in loud sounds and with each breath she took, she felt her heart breaking.
“I will make you some tea to calm you down Miss Anna” the maid said and rushed out of the room.
Anna lay on the bed, crying her heart out and wondering how she was ever going to look at her brother in the same way.
Her life as she knew it was definitely over.
