Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Lorenzo's POV
The news of the Ferrari ball had spread around like wild fire and everyone was more than excited to attend, it had been a while since the Ferrari family hosted a party, I remember attending one or two when I just a young boy along with Anna and my parents.
This party could not have come at the perfect time, I was going to use this party to my advantage and strike when no one was expecting it.
I had to call Anna earlier and inform her that there was going to be a change in plans, she had been very upset but this was the best option for us.
Using the Ferrari party as a distraction to everyone else, I could easily carry out my plans and get away completely unscarred.
I heard a knock on my door and my body immediately tensed up, no one ever came to my appointments here in the Severino house because the guards mostly kept to themselves.
The door handle twisted and opened and the most unlikely person walked in.
"You can rest easy Lorenzo, it's just me" I heard Angelo Severino say.
I relaxed when my eyes fell on him, I noticed at once that something about him looked off, his curly hair looked like he had been running his fingers through it so many times that the curls were now all over the place.
"I am sorry to barge in like this but I think I needed someone to discuss the thoughts in my head with" Angelo said as he took a seat in the modest living room they provided for the bodyguards of the Severino household.
I was not sure how to react to this, Angelo Severino and I were definitely not close, he normally minded his business around the house and we hadn't really spoken until recently so this was definitely strange.
I cleared my throat and said "Sure go ahead, you can tell me what is bothering you" I said to him as I took the seat opposite to the one he was currently seating on.
It was best if one knew his enemies weaknesses and found ways to use it against them.
Angelo took a deep breath and said "I feel very confused all of a sudden"
"Why are you confused?" I asked him.
A smile appeared on his face but there was nothing warm or real about the smile, it could best be described as dry and humourles.
"So today, my father informed me today that he was retiring from the position of Don Severino and he would like me to take over from him" Angelo Severino said.
Dante Severino was giving up the reigns of leadership? This wasn't something that I thought possible because the man made it seem like it was his whole life to lead the Severino family and cause chaos and death while at it.
With Angelo as the Severino leader it will be so easy to break them into pieces, many of the men thought Angelo to be weak and I personally thought so as well, he was not cut out for this life.
I cleared my throat and said "And that is a bad thing? You taking over I mean"
A sigh escaped his lips and then he ran his fingers through his hair again making it even worse than it was already.
"I don't know why it bothers me that he would want to retire all of a sudden, I mean it's not even about the leadership thing, I just think that it is a bit odd that he wants me to lead all of a sudden, I mean what the hell is the man going to do with his life if he is not going about bossing people around and being Don Severino" Angelo said.
I shrugged my shoulders and said "Well let the man decide what he wants on his own, I am sure he has something planned, he is Dante Severino after all"
Angelo raised an eyebrow and said "You seem to be pretty confident about my father's decision"
I shrugged my shoulders again and said "In all my time, I have never known Dante Severino to second guess himself or make a decision that turned out for the worse"
Except for the night he decided to have my parents killed, that was the worse mistake of his life and soon enough he will begin to see the consequences of that one singular decision.
Angelo smiled a little and said "Well I guess you are right, I have never seen my father make mistakes and he always does what's best for the family"
It was great to boost his confidence and get him on my side, I had to make him trust him, so that when the results of my plans started to manifest, I will be last person they suspect and when they finally realize everything was my doing, it will be much too late already.
"Are you nervous about assuming leadership by any chance?" I asked.
He ran his fingers through his hair once more and let out a sigh.
"I think so, it was never supposed to be me, my older brother was always supposed to lead the Severino family, I was just the second son that did not have to deal with the pressure of leadership but after he....." Angelo paused here for a while before he continued "Died, it became clear that I would have to lead whether I wanted to or not" he finished.
I remembered Lucca Severino during my time here, he was a brash young man with no head for leadership, it had been pretty easy to get into his like that when I had given him the information about Enzo Ferrari, the truth was that I had not expected the events to spiral out the way they did in the end, I had not expected Dante Severino to sacrifice his own child like that but Lucca was definitely going to run the family to the ground even without my help, in my opinion, Dante Severino made a very good decision killing him off.
"I am sorry about Lucca, he did not deserve to die like that, he was a good man with his family's best interests at heart" I said.
Angelo laughed a little when I said this "Lucca was not a good man and we all know it but at least we can say he cared about his family" he said.
I decided to remain quiet.
Angelo let out another breath and then said "I should get going, I am sorry I bothered you Lorenzo, it's just that I have no one else to speak to" he began to get up to leave.
I stood up along with him, he looked very despondent, his mind was just ripe for the picking.
I waited until he had gotten to the door before I said "Angelo?"
He turned to look at me.
"For what it's worth, I think you will make a great leader, you are man I would not mind following" I said with a smile.
Angelo gave me a smile and then he said "Thank you Lorenzo, you are a really good man" with that he opened the door and walked out.
A smile spread across my face as I sat in the chair, everything was slowly falling into place.
