Chapter sixteen

Chapter sixteen - The Alpha

"Only the weak fight during the storms."

[R E N]

I sighed heavily while my legs carried me upstairs to the office room, I've grown to hate during the past few weeks.
It has been a difficult time for my family and pack, so I and my mate finally agreed on letting everyone have a little bit of time off.
Meaning - young wolves will not have to attend school for a week and older ones will be free from their jobs for the same amount of time as teens.
We all need time to cool down.

While walking I kept thinking should I knock on the door, but as soon as I reached it, I just entered the room without announcing my arrival.
This is my home, they are guests and no-host should be sneaking around to knock on each door in their own goddamn house.

"Luna, it's a pleasure to see you, even under circumstances as these", one of the elders spoke, bowing in front of me.

"Oh zip the formalities, Xavier, I'm here to talk about important shit not to act like I'm happy to see all those old fucks, including yourself, to involve my household", I gestured to everyone as I spoke.

Yes, usually I'm the nice Luna, who is so polite and nice, but today I can't pretend that I like to see them.
Today I'm here to talk about my child's future and nobody will keep me away from making sure that she's happy.

One of the elders growled at me, earning an ear-piercing growl from my mate, who instantly appeared in front of me, ready to protect what's his.

"Drop on your knees mutt, apologize now!", his breaths were heavy and voice low, his wolf was on the surface, feeling threatened by one of the elders.

Of course, I was rude and all that, yet even though they don't like getting offended, you do not want to piss off one of the most powerful Alphas in his own house. You do not want to challenge someone as possessive as Azrael.

"I'm sorry for my behavior, Luna, my sincere apologies", he dropped on his knees. Which I didn't expect for him to do.
I didn't move a muscle, Hell I didn't even look his way.

"My love", Azrael turned his body towards me and wrapped his arms around me protectively. His wolf was still fighting for dominance, but calming down, since he had me dead close to his body.

I still kept quiet, my mind was occupied with millions of thoughts and outcomes for this meeting.

"Listen up! If anyone dares to as much as look at my mate the wrong way, we will have the joy to see live-action execution right here, right now. Got it?", Azrael roared, lacing his words in venom.

All elders nod eagerly.

"Gentlemen", I took a deep breath And straightened my body. I am Luna, I'm supposed to be strong and diplomatic at all cost.
"Please take your seats, we have an important matter to address before our meeting ends", I gestured to seats they should take and all of the elders gladly did sit down.

"My daughter, Kato, has decided to decline her Alpha rank. Any questions?", I stated.

"But that is outrageous! She's the rightful heir and she should look upon her responsibilities more serious", elder Xavier stood up.

"I'm quite sure that the decision of approval or declining still stands by me. Isn't that true, Xavier?", Azrael spoke, throwing hateful glances at the council members.

"Yes, that is true. Again, my apologies, Alpha", the elder sat down, his cheeks turning a deep red.

"Under any other circumstances, of course, I would reject her wish. But... But I have decided to support my pup's wish. She is young, she just lost her only chance in life alongside her mate. Please do let me remind everyone that I am a father before an Alpha. Family comes first. My mates and children's interests come first. I am still fully capable of leading the pack, for I am not as old as everyone here thinks. I'm hitting my prime. My son, Eli, will take over the responsibility of pack as an Alpha after his eighteenth birthday. If something happens to myself and I am no longer capable of leading the pack, Kato will step up until Eli will be rightfully old enough to take his title", Azrael kept the intense glaze on elder Xavier, we both knew that he was the one who might be against our decision. I knew that my mate won't push Kato to become an Alpha. He knows how much our daughter values her freedom, Eli on the other hand, already think that he is an Alpha.

The room was silent, nobody dared to go against what their Alpha has just said. Azrael smirked in content, he loved the taste of victory.

Soon the conversation turned into light chatter about the life quality of the pack. Some important matters have been addressed, none of them causing heated discussions. It was like a breeze of fresh air we all needed. Since Kato came back home all of us have been forced to go through some tough time alongside her. Hopefully, we will forget it soon enough and life will go back into its old tracks.

A few hours later elders were getting ready to leave since the meeting has just ended. I sighed in relief. Too fast, to add. The cabinet door flew open with a loud bang and Lillith rushed in. Azrael stood in front of me in seconds, ready to attack any moment, if I was in danger.

"Alpha, Luna, I'm sorry for arriving without being invited, but I need your help. Please", she begged, dropping on her knees. Her eyes were red and puffy, she has been crying. A lot.

I pushed Azrael aside and ran to her, dropping my body next to hers. My arms found their way around her shaking body and I hugged her on instinct. I know she needs it now since her arms flew around my neck. Her body was tense, shaking violently.

"What happened? Of course, we will help, just tell us how can we", I whispered, still holding her tightly.

Even though she's a vampire, we did develop a pretty close friendship between us while she has been living in our pack. I was considering to offer her to join us. To become a part of our family.

"Lukas", she whimpered and her body went limp in my arms. My heart skipped a beat. No...

"Healer, I need a healer", I yelled to men, standing behind of me, all frozen like statues.

Moon Goddess, please keep that boy safe until his mother wakes up, please look after him. We need him safe. For the sake of his mother, for the sake of peace and the sake of my daughter. Please, please keep him safe at all costs...
