Chapter 45
The cliff was quiet, everyone was tense and alert, no one spoke first.
Sophia's mind was foggy and she bit through her lip with difficulty for a moment of clarity.
No one could save her now, she could only save herself.
That choice they were asked to make she heard, and she didn't hold much hope in her heart, only that she could try to delay it and give her time to recover so she would have a way to save herself.
"How much more power can you use." Sophia asked her wolf in her head.
Her fingers twitched slightly.
'Can't use a single point.' The wolf said grumpily, 'I didn't think there could be someone as stupid as your sister in this world, actually digging her own hole and jumping into it, now you've done it.'
"You should stop complaining." Sophia sighed.
Her eyes were blank as she searched for the figure that gave her peace of mind, and at the end of what her sight could reach, she saw the mighty giant wolf, who gave a long whistle and forced back the enemies around her.
Aaron's side of the battle was urgent, and she couldn't afford to distract him.
"Carl," Sophia's voice reached Carl's ears and his body gave a slight shudder.
Carl looked up to see her, and instead of Susan's panic, her face was only calm.
"I know I'm probably going to die." Sophia said calmly, in a tone that made Carl's heart throb hard, wanting to comfort but not knowing what to say.
The leader didn't stop her from speaking, looking on as if he wanted to enjoy their desperation a little more at the last moment.
"If I tell you something now, will you believe me?" Sophia said softly.
Her skin was white and transparent in the sunlight, as if it would disappear from sight at any moment, which made Carl panic a little, subconsciously reached out, and restrained to suppress this impulse when he saw Susan, whose face was full of tears.
Sophia's gaze drifted down on him with a hint of sadness.
In fact, she acted out this drama just to stall for a while.
"I believe it!" Carl immediately gave a response, looking at her with a hint of apology in his gaze, "I believe whatever you say."
Susan, who had been pretending to be pathetic, suddenly had a bad feeling, and she screamed regardless, trying to get Carl to hurry up and choose to save her.
She couldn't wait any longer.
But no one paid any attention to her, everyone's attention was on Sophia.
Even at times like this, Sophia is always the one in the spotlight. Jealousy and anger are crowding into Susan's mind, and she can't even control her expression.
Sophia gave her a slightly mocking look.
"Carl, the time I went to you before you left the royal capital, I didn't tell you a single lie." Sophia said slowly, "But you didn't believe me at that time."
"I grew up with you, and Susan was my favorite sister, and you saw all this."
"I'm sad too."
Sophia suddenly laughed, a little bit of sadness revealed in her laughter.
"I couldn't have imagined that the sister I trusted so much would be like this, that she would want to take away everything I have and make me end up in tragedy, and even want my life."
Sophia's face was tinged with disappointment and sadness.
Carl suddenly got a little flustered and interrupted her.
"Sophia, is there some misunderstanding, how could Susan possibly want your life."
"Hey, hey, hey, I can testify to this." The leader of the rebels looked at the hilarity and favored the appearance of a sincere proof.
"It was just inside." He pointed in the direction of the forest, "If it wasn't for that deliberate push by this little beauty, we wouldn't have been able to catch our awesome queen so easily."
Carl's face suddenly changed and he looked at Susan in disbelief, and that gaze pierced Susan's face.
"Susan! Is this true!" Carl also angrily questioned, he didn't expect Susan, who was innocent and kind in his eyes, to have such a dark heart secretly.
He also believed her time and again, helped her explain, and hurt Sophia for her rebuttal, but now that he thought about it, every single thing was like a slap in the face, hitting him hard.
"Brother Carl, I really didn't." Susan pale fake crying, "How could I intentionally hurt my sister, I really didn't mean to just now, I just almost fell and accidentally touched my sister."
Hearing her explanation, Carl's face eased a little.
Sophia sneered in her heart, but was not ready to let Susan go.
"Susan, I'm going to ask you a few questions, you just have to answer if it's okay."
Susan couldn't refuse, but could only be cautious and more cautious.
"Go ahead and ask, sister, I've never done anything wrong to you, I'm not afraid of anything you ask." She was still trying hard to establish a persona for herself.
Sophia was tugged by the arm a little pain, slowly move a little, and again was controlled, she simply relaxed her body, hanging between the arms of the two people racking her.
"You said you met us unintentionally on a walk, yes or no?"
"Yes." Susan answered quickly.
"Did you ask me why Aaron and I were being hunted?"
"Yes!" Susan answered without hesitation, not understanding why she was asking this nonsense.
Sophia didn't give her a chance to think, and after she answered, asked the next question without stopping, at first Susan had to think carefully, and when the answer finally came, she answered almost subconsciously.
"Did someone give you a message to go there to find us."
"Yes!"
The moment she finished her answer, Sophia paused and looked at her quietly.
Susan reacted to what she had said and her face went even whiter, looking over at Carl in almost panic.
Sophia spoke softly.
"Susan, why did you come?"
"No, it's not that." Susan stammered, trying to refute what she had just said, "No one gave me the message to come over, you, you deliberately misled me."
"Then who did you prepare your wound medicine for?"
"Why were you so happy when you saw Aaron?"
"I've left Carl, I've left Meta Moon, and why do you want me dead so badly?"
One question after another clogged up Susan, who didn't know how to answer, and she looked on the verge of tears, with the look of being relentlessly forced by Sophia.
"You don't know how to answer, so I'll do it for you." Sophia slowly straightened up, looked at Carl, and said, word for word.
"I guess you received the news that the king was about to be in danger, so you wanted to take this opportunity to get close to Aaron."
"Your wound medicine was for Aaron because you knew he would be hurt, but, you didn't expect me to be with him." Sophia laughed mockingly.
Susan shook her head desperately, not acknowledging that what she said was true.
"You took Carl away from me, took away my honor in the pack, but you didn't think I would become the queen of the wolves, and you weren't satisfied and came back to take away what I have now."
"You wanted to take this opportunity to spend time with Aaron and make him feel good about you, but my presence got in the way, so you wanted me to die so you could vacate the position and let Aaron be soothed by you in his grief over the loss of me."
"Aaron's the king, so what if it breaks up a mate pair, am I right?" Her sharp gaze shot to Susan, "Susan?"
Susan's face became more and more ugly at her questioning phrase.
Carl actually had a feeling early on, he guessed that Susan's purpose of coming out was not pure, but he didn't expect Susan would want to separate from him to please the king.
The leader had seen enough of the drama and clapped his hands, shouting excitedly, "Don't delay, choose now!"
Sophia pursed her lips, she said so much though just to stall for time, but she was also expecting in her heart that Carl would have a little regret and would choose her because of this hint of remorse.
Even the rebel crowd thought that Susan was really a bad to the core bad woman. Isn't it a matter of course to abandon a bad woman to choose a good woman who gave herself selflessly to her?
Carl looked at Susan's eyes full of anger and disappointment, he wanted to question, but felt that now was not a good opportunity to do so.
His struggling gaze turned several times between Sophia and Susan, and finally looked at Sophia.
This look, full of apologies, made Sophia's heart go cold.
''Sophia, no, can't lift the strength.'' The wolf shouted anxiously in its consciousness, it didn't expect the medicine to be so strong, and Sophia delayed for so long to no avail.
Sophia could no longer hear what it was saying, all she could see was Carl's arm that was raised with difficulty.
And the hand pointing at Susan.
"I'll take her." Carl's voice was arduous, and felt his arm was a million pounds heavy again, he didn't even dare to turn his head slightly sideways to see Sophia's expression, he could only apologize in vain, "Sophia, I'm sorry, Susan is my mate, even if she did something wrong, I can't give up on her."
"Heh."
Sophia laughed lowly.
She looked at Carl gaze without a trace of emotion, and also vaguely with a little hate.
"Carl, I can finally tell myself without the slightest hesitation that you are not worthy of my love." The cruel words spitting out of her mouth made Carl feel like he was being cut a little.
It was like he was being put on the gallows and publicly executed.
"Because you are essentially the same person as she is, all you ever care about is yourselves, selfish, hypocritical, and unworthy of love."
She could only finish that sentence, and the next second she was thrown out.
She had never hated Carl, even when they had hurt her so unmercifully.
But in this moment, in this moment when Carl chose Susan, Sophia thought, she hated him.
She hated him for spoiling her feelings.
And from this moment on, she completely let go.
Sophia's eyes widened in the fall, trying to look up the cliff, she wanted to see Aaron again.
She was still very upset.
It was really a pity that she would never see him again.
Suddenly, her eyes widened in shock, and time seemed to have stopped at this moment.
It was Aaron who turned into a giant wolf.
When Sophia was thrown out, Aaron suddenly turned back with palpitations, not expecting to see this scene that frightened him.
He did not hesitate to turn around and run towards the cliff, even if his body was caught by the enemy countless blood marks also did not stop at all.
Looking at Sophia, who was already falling down, he jumped straight down and went towards Sophia without a hint of hesitation between actions.
Sophia opened her arms and firmly embraced, her most valiant and most loved giant wolf.
Her tears fell unguardedly and she buried her head into his fleece.
"Why are you so stupid!"
The only sound in her ears was Aaron's low laughter as they fell together toward the bottom of the cliff, clinging to each other and not letting go.
Just at this unbearably thrilling time, a figure suddenly scurried out from the side.
Karida lumbered out of the forest, chanting an incantation aloud with the only time left.
A powerful wind swept up Aaron's massive body and they were flung against the cliff face.
Aaron's sharp claws dug into the stone wall, cushioned, wrapped around Sophia's body and rolled down, breaking several branches growing on the cliff face midway, and plunged to the bottom of the cliff.
Karida did the only thing she could do, and took advantage of the rebels' inattention to slip away quickly.
