Chapter 58

The masked man nodded his head approvingly, agreeing very much with the word foolish.
But soon, he said in a worried voice, "But master, they have already started to move, we can't wait, can you tell me what you think? Should we act now?"
Nick hesitated for a moment.
"Just wait a little longer, let me think about it."
"Good." The masked man nodded, clutched Nick's wrist that couldn't stop trembling, and said seriously, "But your illness can't wait any longer, if you don't take the medicine, there will be a big problem, and then the king will find out without acting."
"They already suspect me, and if I take the medicine at this time, am I not sending evidence into their hands?"
Nick endured and could not endure, curled his body up and grabbed the masked man's arm so hard that he couldn't control it and scratched him.
The masked man kept holding back, and when he calmed down, his arm had been scratched until it was full of bruises, but it was good to see that no new wounds appeared on Nick's hand.
The masked man lowered his sleeve and said almost supplicatingly, "Let me bring you medicine, your safety is more important than anything else."
"Don't hesitate any longer, your body won't last much longer, haven't they already stolen the medicine to be tested? You hid it well and suffered so many injuries for him, he shouldn't suspect you anymore."
Nick hesitated for a long time and agreed under his supplicating gaze.
"He thought of many ways to test me." Nick's voice was weak, "You go back and check it out, someone has infiltrated us and stolen our means of transmission, if I hadn't reacted quickly, I would have fallen for it."
"I understand, recently they are not too honest, at this time actually still thinking about internal fighting, neglected many places, I will deal with it, you do not worry."
"I will find a way to send you the medicine as soon as possible, before your next attack, you must not bear any problems by yourself." He half knelt down and looked at him reverently, "Master, it was you who saved me, and I am forever loyal to you."
After Nick met the masked man, the assassinations became less frequent, while Karida's position among the rebels became dangerous.
They seemed to realize what was going on and began to make internal changes, well they didn't seem to be that united internally and were caught by Karida quite a few times, almost managing to blend into the base on one occasion.
A week later, the masked man fulfilled his promise to deliver medicine to Nick and saw instead a master lying on a bed with a large hole opened in his abdomen.
He lunged over, his voice chilling: "They hurt you!"
Nick took the medicine, his mind was still a little dizzy, lazily raised his eyes to look at him, and closed them again.
"They came for me." Nick said calmly, "Which assholes are trying to kill me?"
The masked man clenched his fist guiltily and slammed it heavily against the edge of the bed, which was stained with a bit of blood, covered by the bed sheet, so they didn't notice.
"Blame me for not telling you in advance, I was going to take care of it before I told you."
He pulled the unlabeled pill bottle out of his pocket and scrambled to pour two pills for him.
"You take the pills first."
Nick braced himself and ate the two pills in his hand, swallowing them straight down without drinking any water.
"You go first, don't get caught." Nick inclined his head.
"Then I'll leave the medicine here." The masked man placed the pill bottle next to his pillow.
"Take it away!" Nick bellowed low.
"Master, you are so badly injured, you can't control your condition without medicine, just leave it." The masked man whispered a prayer.
"I'll die faster if I'm found out." Nick looked at him with a cold face.
They wanted to argue again, but the sudden knock on the door did not give them the opportunity.
The pill bottle wasn't taken away, the masked man tumbled out of the window, and Nick tucked it under his pillow and resumed his position on the bed.
"Come in."
Aaron pushed the door in, being the Alpha, he heard that his Beta was seriously injured, and he immediately rushed over.
"How are you?" Sophia's head burrowed out from behind him, hands picking at his shoulders, standing slightly on tiptoe.
"Your Majesty, Your Majesty." Nick tried to get up from the bed, but Aaron stopped him.
"Lie down."
"Did someone just come in?" Sophia asked curiously, looking at a slightly wrinkled spot on the side of the bed.
Nick's heart tightened and he laughed, "The doctor just left."
"So." Sophia smiled back, "Nothing much, we just came by to check on your injury, and by the way, we told you to rest for a few more days, how can you protect the king if you don't get well, right?"
"You said it." Nick responded, watching them leave.
'There's another smell.' Aaron's wolf shouted in his consciousness, 'He must be lying!'
"Are you sure?"
'Of course! You actually doubt me!' The wolf complained discontentedly.
"That's because you're so unreliable." Aaron snorted coldly and ignored him.
'Hey, hey, hey! You make it clear to me! If I was unreliable you would have died long ago!' The wolf howled, 'You're not allowed to ignore me! Say something!'
Aaron rubbed his temples with a headache, and Sophia, who saw it aside, asked suspiciously, "What's wrong?"
"There's a guy who's too noisy." Aaron said helplessly.
Sophia comprehended and lost her smile.
"I think it's fine."
'Look, Sophia even said I'm fine!' Wolf said proudly.
"That's because I don't know what kind of virtue you have." Aaron scoffed.
'You don't think I'm nice, it's because you're a boring guy who never knows how to write the word cute!' Wolf said viciously.
"Don't want people to use those two disgusting words to describe me." Aaron said wickedly.
Then, he heard Sophia say, "As cute as you are."
Aaron's face turned bright and he said dotingly, "That's good that you like it."
Then he was mocked severely.
'I thought you wouldn't let people use those two disgusting words to describe you? Why don't you dare to say it now!'
"Sophia is not someone else." Aaron retorted calmly.
'Cut.'
Not knowing how Aaron was choking with his wolf in his head, Sophia drove Aaron back to his official duties and took the maid serving her all the way to the garden.
In the garden, two servants were watering the bushes when their gossip drifted into Sophia's ears.
"You don't know, Lord Nick looks particularly frightening that way, I've never seen him like that before, with red blood in his eyes."
"So what's wrong?"
"He said it was a wound that hurt too much, but it didn't look like it to me, and when he turned his head to glare at me, I thought I was going to die the next second! It was horrible!"
Sophia walked over quickly and grabbed the maid's shoulder.
"Say what you just said again!"
The maid turned around and saw her, so scared that her legs went weak and she knelt down.
"King, Queen, I was wrong, I dare not talk about the lord again." The maid's face was pale as she begged for mercy.
"I didn't want to blame you." Sophia, somewhat helpless, pulled her up, "You tell me what you just said you saw Nick doing, without missing a single detail."
The maid froze and nodded her head.
"My lord he, he was looking in pain, covering his forehead, his forehead was covered with cold sweat, his body was shaking, his eyes were bloodshot, and he felt like he would collapse at any moment with no control."
"I see." Sophia nodded with a puzzled look and turned to leave.
Sophia hurriedly found Aaron, a flying swoop into his arms, legs wrapped around his waist, whispering in his ear, "I'm basically sure Nick has a mental type related illness."
Aaron's brow furrowed and sent everyone else out.
Sophia told Aaron what she had heard from the maid, analyzing it in a very methodical manner.
"I think it would be a good idea to find a chance to take a sample of all the medication in Nick's room. It would have been a strange habit to tear the labels off the bottles, what if he didn't understand the pharmacology and took the wrong medication? Unless he has a reason for having to do that, he has something to hide."
When Sophia said this, Nick was getting out of bed, torn between putting the bottle of medicine in the cupboard that contained it, or hiding it.
He thought about it for a while and finally put it in the cupboard.
It was this choice that gave him away.
Nick's injury healed quickly, and within two days he was able to move around as usual. Sophia found an opportunity to sneak into Nick's room while he was being taken out by Aaron on an errand.
The cabinet was full of the same white pill bottles, Sophia unscrewed one and looked at it, but couldn't see any difference, so she could only take one pill out of each bottle, and took out the bottle of vitamin tablets she had brought and stuffed one into it.
''Sophia, be careful!'' Wolf warned in time in his consciousness.
Sophia threw the pill bottle back into the cupboard and took a step back. A man with a wolf's head mask jumped in the window and attacked her as soon as she met him, with strong moves, most of which were aimed at the medicine in her hand.
Sophia stuffed the medicine into her corset and turned her hand into a wolf claw, colliding with the other man's claw, and they both took a few steps back.
The guards guarding outside heard the commotion and barged in. When the masked man saw that he couldn't snatch back the medicine, he didn't hesitate and turned around and jumped out of the window.
He seemed to be familiar with the structure of the palace, and in a short time he escaped from the guards who were falling behind him.
Sophia took back her hand, which was a little numb, waved her hand at the guards who came close to care, shooed them out, erased the traces of her visit, took a small packet of pills, and went to the doctor.
The doctor immediately analyzed all the ingredients of the pills and confirmed that one of the tiny tablets was a medicine for mental illness, which was hard to find on the market and could only be bought from the black market.
"The Queen." The doctor said hesitantly, "Didn't you search for something that causes allergies from one of the guards earlier? I tested it privately out of curiosity and found that this allergy-causing drug, if consumed at the same time as psychotropic drugs, will likely cause body dysfunction and the illusion of a seriously injured coma."
"Are you saying that Nick's coma at that time was most likely made on purpose?" Sophia was a little surprised.
"I was the one who went to look after Lord Nick at that time, I was very sure that his coma at that time was not faked, his body looked like he had suffered a violent injury, I was not able to do too close an examination, but from a superficial point of view, this kind of serious injury manifested itself very strangely, I thought I was overthinking it, so I didn't care."
"I see, please." Sophia nodded and squeezed the small bag with the pills and went back.
