Rebecca

I went into the room, not bothering myself with his mother. They were both up to no good and from the look of things, she wasn't going to be telling me what they were doing and so I knew the best thing to do was to hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

She had been repeating Mandy is ever since she walked out of hat room and none of that was healthy for my impatience. It was only a matter of time before I got mad and took things far.

Chad fluttered his eyes open when I walked into the room. I had almost pushed his mother to the floor when she wouldn't stop tugging at my arm, trying to stop me from going into the room, and nothing honestly vexed me more.

"Chad!" I took angry strides to his side of the bed and sat in front of him. "What do you mean Nikki looks like Mandy? Who the fuck is Mandy and why did your mother sound disappointed to find out who Nikki really is?"

"Rebecca, this isn't the time for this discussion." He shunned me, turning to lie on his side and closing his eyes.

"This is the perfect time for this discussion because if we don't talk about it now, you know how far I can go with getting information that I need, don't dare me." I warned him, pointing an angry manicured finger at him.

"That's it." He groaned while he turned around to look at me. "I hate drama like this and you're forgetting who I am. It's over between us Rebecca, please just go home or something. I owe you no explanation for anything I do in my life."

My eyes went wide on their accord. "What are you talking about?"

"All I'm saying is that I'm done with this relationship. I'm done forcing myself to do what I'm not interested in." He didn't speak with any emotions nor did he look the least remorseful.

I was still confused and basically had no idea how I was supposed to react and sat so I stood still, staring around blankly.

"Rebecca please leave now, we are done having this discussion." He closed his eyes and shut me out.

"Oh I see, that's how you want to play, then sure, things are good to go." I scoffed, folding my arms across my chest after flipping one hair onto one side of my shoulder.

He didn't budge even when I left the room. His mother was still outside, staring at me with worried eyes. I had a feeling she had eavesdropped on our conversation.

"Rebe.." she tried to say.

"No need to feel sorry." I smiled at her sarcastically. Remembering she had been the one to suggest that Chad and I got engaged, I added, "or worried that I'll go as far as tell my parents he broke up with me. Between you and I, I was tired of the relationship." I concluded and continued out of the hospital.

I would get to the bottom of things on ny own and if I had to find out that Nikki had done according to my suspicions l, then she was dead meat.

Nikki

"We are contacting you because of your application at Stamps and Papers." The man continued to speak and I sighed in relief. For a minute, I had thought someone was out to get me.

"Oh, that. You call your applicants?" That was new for me. I thought everyone operated their systems like Chad did.

"Congratulations, you have the job of the secretary." He didn't sound enthusiastic, giving me a little bit of Chad vibes for a second.

"Wait, what? Really?" I widened my eyes.

"Yes, we have forwarded all the details you'll need to your email, if there's any questions you'd like to ask, I'd be happy to help. I'm Cornelius by the way." He introduced.

"Um, okay... I mean wow, thank you, this is such an honour and no, I'm clean of questions for now." I assured him.

"Alright then, respond to your email and we can proceed to making things official." He concluded.

"Wow!" I beamed when I put the phone down. "I was getting a job from someone who wasn't Chad or pizza city."

I stood to my feet to do a little dance of excitement. It was splendid what applying for a job could do. Thank goodness he had called me because I would never have checked my email. Who knew what other jobs I'd had but never confirmed. I had never been so excited in my entire life.

All that mattered most was the salary. If it could top Chad's, I'd never feel bad for leaving that institute.

I stood to my feet so I could check the email out.

It was only a matter of time before my phone rang again. I thought it was from Stamps and Papers but it was another unknown ID. What? Did another company hire me?

I picked it up with hope, "hello?"

"Nikki?"

"Yeah?" The woman definitely didn't sound like an employer and something was familiar about her voice that I just couldn't make out.

"It's Chad's mom, my aon would like to speak with you please." She announced in the sweetest voice.

Without thinking, I changed my voice Into a masculine pitch. "Uh sure, I'd talk to him." I said, feeling stupid. I was trying to conceal what my voice actually sounded like. How could Chad have used her phone number to contact me, was he that stupid? His mother of all people?

I wasn't sure but I think I heard her laugh. "Here, talk to him." She handed the phone to him.

"Chad? Are you crazy?!" I yelled into the phone. "Why would you contact me with your mom's phone, what was so urgent, are you trying to bust me or something?"

"The phone is on loudspeaker just so you know." He chuckled.

I taped my palm against my lips, "oh my God."

"It's fine. I'd like to see you right away, it's really important." He called

"What?" I blinked in confusion.

"Hurry up, okay?"

"Oh okay, at the hospital or..."

"The hospital."

"Alright no problem but I need to do a few things first so ..."

"Now Nikki." He ordered. I rolled my eyes, he forgot he no longer controlled my affairs. I rolled my eyes and agreed reluctantly.

"Alright, fine." With that, I ended the phone call, wondering what that was all about, with his mother and all.

I went to my computer first, going ahead to read my email of acceptance.
