“What do you think you are doing?” I directed at Cornelius, my heart beating fast in shock, it seemed to be like it was all happening too soon and I did not have the time to be able to process what was going on.

“Are you crazy? What the fuck, that is harassing me on a completely different level.” I stood to my feet and shove him aside with a rough push on the chest.

He looked like he was surprised by my act and I really felt the need to slap that look off his face if there was anything at all.

“What are you talking about? Why do you look so mad?” He moved backwards a few inches, raising an eyebrow at me.

“You just fucking asked if you cold kiss me!” I thought he was a lunatic for daring me the way that he did.

“I thought we were still role playing.” He widened his eyes in a bit of surprise. “That was going too far.” I tried to calm my voice failingly.”

“Woah, I’m sorry. For some reason I thought you were acting like Kelly could have most likely reacted.” He reacted with that friendly smile of his that I found really hard to resist. For my sanity, I thought it would be best to believe him.

I sat back down and heaved a sigh of relief, “look, I know we are getting closer and stuff but I’m in a committed relationship with someone at the moment and what you did scared me.”

He moved aside and allowed me to have breathing space. He sat on where he had previously been, a teasing smile on his face.

“I’m sorry.” He repeated with a slight nod.

“It’s okay. Just go about your date and please do not request for a kiss, especially since it is your first time meeting her. “So, is there anything else you wanted to tell me?” I asked him in the nicest way possible.

“Yes, now that I think about it, this week is going to be a little packed for us. The CEO called for an online meeting, he is currently in Texas, and he says he wants to create better ways for us to develop the organization.

I put my serious face back on, knowing that it was completely time to discuss business. “Okay tell me about it.” I took an internal note to leave my questions on how I could be a part of these online meetings in the future.

“The first thing I’m going to warn you about is that this is probably going to be one of the longest weeks you might have to deal with, I know you pretty much just started but I have to say, we might be working a little overtime.”

“Oh…” I muttered, secretly not buying the idea of it at all. “Will I get paid though?” I was unable to refrain from asking him.

CHAD

Even though I needed to fill Nikki’s place at work, I still could not get over the fact that she was indeed gone and was no longer working with me. I left the space open and did not put out the vacancies. I put another staff in charge of informing me about the presence of visitors and so when a knock came on my office door while I was taking notes, I frowned immediately because I despised the lack of communication and rudeness I accustomed to that activity. It was pleasing to feel that way towards Nikki when she worked here.

The door was unlocked and while I hoped it was Nikki, I thought it was strange for her to come on a surprise visit. Seeing my lack of response, the person at the door knocked a second time and just turned the knob without waiting for my permission, something Nikki would definitely do.

My frown deepened when I met the face of the woman that walked in. “Rebecca?” I called, closing my laptop.

She looked like a completely different woman without her makeup and the lack of the expensive eyelashes made her appear like she was suffering.

“What are you doing in here?” I asked her rudely, not regarding the look of hurt she had on her face.

“Can you at least pretend to be happy to see me?” She requested with a fake mile on her face.

“Why are you here?” My mind instantly went to sacking the staff in charge of handling information.

“I was going to get some supplies and thought hey, just because we are not together does not mean our friendship has to end, does it?” She put the handbag in her hand down on my desk and a smirk was on her face.

“Drop the hypocrisy, what exactly do you want?” I was getting irritated with every passing minute.

“I already told you, what the fuck is wrong with you and letting go?” I pressed a palm against my forehead in disgust.

“We had something, come on, you can’t expect me to just give our relationship off, at least if we cannot be together as a couple, we should be able to maintain friendship.”

“I’m going to need you to leave, while I’m still being nice with this.” I tried to speak as calm as I could. It seemed to be that no matter the amount of times I took her out of my life, she was fixed on her life decisions with lingering around me and that was something I hoped to avoid.

“Chad.” She bowed her head and sniffed.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head at her, “please don’t display any sort of emotion here.” I really hoped she would listen to my request.

“I came for some other reason if I’m being completely honest.” She lifted her head and heaved a sigh. “Listen, I’m pregnant.” She said it so simply as if her words bore no weight.

I froze where I sat and widened my eyes, “wh..what?”
