Chapter 37 Whom Do You Love?

When Clinton and Eddie came to the scene, gun fight stopped already.
Many police cars were thee.
Some dead bodies were covered with white clothes, carried out from the room and then put in the car.
They stopped immediately.
They had all experienced many ups and downs, so that they knew clearly, they were too late to do anything useful.
John was dead.
Sandra wasn't in the house.
Eddie looked at Clinton coolly.
"Did you do this?
It was like his chest was punched as hard as the echo of the death of John.
He remembered vaguely still that the woman said John was her only family.
For a moment he thought if Sandra knew about it, how sad she would be.
Originally, he didn't want to respond to Eddie, but eventually he replied.
Stiffly.
"No."
Eddie looked at his face closely with doubt to make sure if he was lying.
After a while, he didn't find any traces to say otherwise.
Then he said, compromisingly.
"If it was not you, then it must be her. My informant said Sandra was taken by Charlize."
...
Clinton checked the surveillant video around the Greens' house many times, and even the video along the road, in order to track it down.
The road where Sandra missed was one-way street along the sea.
After she went in, she never showed up anymore.
Clinton watched the video again and again. It seemed there was something choking his heart, so that he couldn't breathe, sullen at his chest.
She was taken by Charlize to the seaside.
There was only one possibility.
His eyes paused for a second and managed to put his guess away by focusing his attention and got up to Charlize's bedroom.
As he ordered, Charlize was under custody comfortably for a week.
Upon opening the door, he was choking immediately on the smoke in the room.
He coughed slightly to adjust himself to get used to the dim light in the room. There was a simple pray corner in her bedroom, where she could worship her ancestors.
He frowned his forehead and didn't ask about her odd behavior, and came to her back.
"Where did you take Sandra?"
Charlize didn't look back but lighted a candle on the pray table.
"I said she went to the Wilsons."
He was controlling his tone.
"I checked the surveillant video."
Her hand paused for a while and then put off the lighter and turned back, sneering.
"So what? Do you want to know the truth? The truth is Sandra stole the dock deeds and gave them to the Wilsons, and afterwards, she committed suicide out of guilt. She begged me not to let you know because she was afraid of you and also hated you. So, are you satisfied now?"
"Committed suicide" in his ears sounded like a bomb that set him out of control.
"Say it again!"
His eyes were tainted with blood. The last hope he had in his mind was destroyed by Charlize.
"I said she is dead! Dead! When you had no idea, she died silently!"
She screamed and shouted to let out her feelings, and then laughed again.
"Haha, the woman you love died already... Clinton, you said you loved me, which was just lip service. Who the hell do you really love? Why did you bring Sandra when you asked me out every time? Why did you get married with Sandra while I was tortured and raped in the Wilsons?! Haha, you hypocrite, you should all die, you deserve to die!"
Bang!
A slap on her face stopped her scream.
Clinton gritted his teeth trying to retrain himself.
"Stop saying that she is dead."
Sandra wouldn't die.
She accompanied him during so many fights, even when it was extremely heated gun fight, she was still safe and sound.
She wouldn't die.
Clinton looked at Charlize's beautiful face condescendingly.
Why did she like her face before?
Yes, this face was so vivid and fun, which Sandra never had.
That woman was always beside him like his shadow, silently.
But he always thought the shadow should follow the owner always. No matter whom he was with, or what he did to her.
Clinton lowered his head, thinking, while looking at many fine lines in his palm that were as complicated as the understanding and emotions between him and Sandra. Both were difficult to interpret.
A sigh was murmured from his throat.
"... Sandra."
