KESKA: “Sorry, Alisha, she can sometimes be a bit of a smarty pants.” I tell her. “It’s ok, she was right, she is softer.” Alisha answers back. “Liam is going to be cranky.” Mackie says. “Why is that?” the guys ask. “Because he gets protective of her, and he didn’t get to see her this time.” I answer them. They just chuckle.

BARETT: “Lilly, please tell us about your mate, so that we can better understand about Keska.” I ask her. “My mate was a phase elemental, he could change his physical body into any of the natural elements, fire, earth, air, water. He could go from one element right into another without having to change back into his human form. Like Keska, he would disappear when he phased, and he could travel the length of half a football field in one phase.” She told us with tears glistening in her eyes. “I am sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up bad memories for you.” “They’re not bad, Barett, I still just miss him very much.” She says. “What happened to him?” Trent asked. “When Jessie and James were 6 and Keska was 4, the other twins were 2. The kids were staying with us, Drake and Carla had the Alpha conference/convention to go to. There was a rogue attack, we had warned the kids not to go into the woods. Back then, we lived a bit closer to the border. Jessie, as always pushing against the boundaries set for her, went against what we said. They were playing hide and seek. Jessie went straight for the woods at the back of the house, and smack dab into a group of rogues that were planning to cross into the Pack lands. Rickard wasn’t able to fully phase carrying Jessie, he could only do short distances, and he couldn’t change into any of the elements while carrying her, they were able to target his vital organs with their claws, he made it back with her but just barely, or we would have lost her that day as well.” She tells us as her tears start. “I am sorry Lilly.” Trent says. “It’s not your fault. I tore those rogues to shreds; I don’t think that there was anything left that would have identified them as being wolves when I got done with them.” She said, and the tears fell. I watched as Keska went to her grandmother and wrapped her arms around her, and they both just stood in the middle of the room holding each other.

KESKA: This is the first time that Papa’s story was told. I’m just sorry that Liam and James weren’t here to hear it. But I am confused, “Nana, I thought that you stayed with us in the safe room.” I almost whispered. “Yes I suppose you do, but that was your great aunt, Callie, we are twins, like your siblings, we are not identical, so no shared mate, but after Rickard died she didn’t come around much, I don’t know if she felt responsible for his death or what,(she shrugged)we write to each other, but she hasn’t visited in a long time.” “What did she look like?” I asked. “Callie has/had dark red hair, and light milk chocolate brown eyes, whereas I have the Auburn hair and hazel eyes, just like yours.” She says. I nod, it is coming back a bit clearer. “I know it’s all got to be a bit hazy for you, dear, you were only 4. I am surprised that you even remember him at all.” She says. “I remember him, Lissa and Liam don’t, and I feel bad for them. I just remember I loved Papa very much, I always wanted to be with you and him.” She nodded. “Nana, I want to go run the course, and I want the bags added.” I say softly. “Of course, dear.”

LILLY: It had been ages since I thought about the day I lost my mate. It still hurts, but it’s because of the kids that I kept going. “Alright, Kes, we’ll get the bags added, but this time you are going to start at the end and run it in reverse. So go get climbing that last high pole, while the princes and Stephen get the bags added.” I tell her. “Yes, Nana.” I watch as she jumps the poles to the last one, and balances there until the princes and Stephen get the bags up and swinging. Once that was done, I called “GO.” And I time her. Making her run it in reverse forces her to have to climb the ropes on at least one end of the balance beam and makes her have to run the whole length of the beam, instead of her usual cutting it in half. But even with the change up, she beat her old time by 45 seconds. “Anyone else want to run it?” I asked the group as a whole. They all took turns on it.

DRAKE: I was on the stairs heading down, just to take a break from the paperwork that seemed to never end lately, when I caught movement in Lilly’s backyard, which reminded me that I was going to get a course to incorporate into the training. I linked Mitchell. *“Mitch, we need to get an obstacle course set up and start training with it as soon as we can get it here.” “I will start researching which ones have the best ratings, and also maybe get ideas and we can build our own, that will save some money, especially after the ball, I know the finances took a hit.” “Yes, they have, good idea. Thanks.” “Welcome.”* I close the link. And I head over to Lilly’s to actually see the one she has in her backyard.

ADRIAN: I was concerned about grandfather, so I went to check on him as I passed the stairs. I noticed movement in the distance and realized that I was looking at Lilly’s backyard. It reminded me that I wanted to incorporate an obstacle course in our training, so as I continued on to grandfather’s room, I called my Beta. The phone rang twice, and he picked up. “Yes, Alpha?” “Heath, I want you to research obstacle courses and find us a good one, or things that we can make ourselves. I want the fighters working on it the minute we get it and get it up.” “Yes, Alpha.” “Thanks.” And I hang up. and knock on grandfather’s door. “Come.” I had to use my wolf’s hearing to catch it, it was so weak. Grandfather was lying in the bed,  he seemed so fragile; my heart went out to him. I know Amanda deserved everything that happened to her, but he didn’t. I just hope that his wolf will survive this. “Grandpa, how are you?” “I will be fine, Adrian, it hurts, but it’s still fresh.” “I am sorry that you have to suffer because of what she did. I wish that I could figure something out so that you wouldn’t have to suffer so much.” I tell him. He just smiles at me. “I know you do, son, I know you do. Don’t worry, I plan on being here to see my great-grandchild born.” He says. “Kina sends her love, she will be by a little later, the pup is being a bit restless for her.” I tell him. “Just like you were for your mom.” He chuckles. I smile back at him. “Is there anything I can get you, food, tea, something stronger?” He chuckles again, “I am good, go be with your mate.” He says. I nod and leave him rest.
