THE BEGINNING:CHAPTER XI:REPORTS
A fair-skinned man cladded in black suit alighted a taxi cab in front of a coffee shop by the left flank of a skyscraper that stood tall before the asphalted road standing in the opposite side of a parking lot where numerous car owners keep their vehicles for the time being until they are done with their usual work routine for the day. He adjusted his black necktie which he tied neatly to his inner white, long-sleeve shirt that was partially exposed by his suit as he walked briskly towards the entrance of the tall building following the pavement which changes its course on the right and arrived at a stony staircase that led to the doorway of the concrete building. Steven in his late forties, has never arrived early for work even though he may be a top-dog in the precinct where he's known for his remarkable keen insight and brilliance in solving complex cases especially cases relating to homicidal deaths as well as murder but he still haven't gotten rid of his bad habit of resuming late for duty every day which had sparked off incessant quarrels with his boss in charge of the precinct each time he arrives late to carry out his duties for the day . His flat-top hair caresses the upper part of the door made of transparent glass that swirls around every time an officer enters and exits the building, because of his tall height which makes him a head taller than the average man or woman that works in the agency as well as enabling others to easily notice his hefty figure in a crowd including his stern face and had earned the nickname"Tallerman" which originated from a queer fellow who happens to be his partner name Jim Jonas who often loves to flirt around with the ladycops in their department but he doesn't engage himself in a serious relationship especially when he was secretly confessed to being loved by an undercover agent working in Summerville that couldn't arrive in the city due to unforeseen circumstances.
Today, he was lucky enough to find out from a female officer who met him at the doorway, that his boss was not present in his office and had gone on a trip to Summerville for him to be in attendance of his cousin's wedding which spared him some reproaches he would have encountered once he step foot into his office.
"So, what happened to the aircraft?", Steven asked the bob-haired female who works at the counter had approached him at the doorway informing him of the missing airplane.
"I haven't gotten a full Intel about what actually went wrong but I understand that the aircraft must have drifted off course when I saw its last coordinates on the radar report sent to me by the air traffic control and what occurred after that wasn't part of the details", she replied walking alongside with him as they strolled towards the elevator.
"Alright, send the report to my desk laptop for me to have look and then... please send a hot coffee through the janitor", He said and winked at her before entering into the elevator which shut her out immediately after he entered inside standing amongst two other male officers behind his back. He adjusted his brown shoulder bag on his right shoulder that he had been fondling with his tapping with his right phalanges in order to ascertain the time from his gent wrist watch before relaxing his patiently waiting for the elevator to open at floor 14 hoping to start a clean working day without any interfences with his plans for the evening.
He stride through the white corridor after exiting the elevator which gave way for him to pass through leaving the two officers inside the elevator and walked straight to his department at the right side of the corridor sailing past two officers before arriving at his desk where he sat down resplendently on his office chair resting his long legs and peered around watching the rowdy department raging on without order and caught sight of his partner talking to one of his ladycops not far from him with his red tie caressing the desk.
"Jonas! Over here! We've got some work to do", He whispered trying hard not to attract attention from the other agents beckoning on Jonas with his left palm but gaze back at him feeling utterly annoyed by his intrusion into his intriguing conversation and gestured back with his waving palm without the knowledge of the lady standing beside him indicating his refusal before surreptitiously pointing at the oblivious bun-haired female. Steven kept persisting with his intrusive summons until his partner gave in to his demand and reluctantly excused himself away from the officer walking towards him in sheer frustration.
"Aww... come on Steven, you can't go on ordering me around like I'm some dawg", Jonas said standing beside him.
"It's urgent and we've got our hands full right now", Steven replied peering at the laptop screen which he had turned on using his right hand in order to search for the report that was sent to him before he made his way to his desk.
"Wow, I've never seen you this serious before when it comes to office work even though you'll do it but this time, it's way different", Jonas said looking at his rigid face that was peering hard at the laptop scrolling down the screen using the mouse which displayed contents of the report about the missing aircraft but Steven didn't respond.
"You got a date this evening huh? Tell me all about the girl?", Jonas whispered to his partner's ear which made him flinched a smile across his face but kept his focus on the screen reading every detail about the aircraft.
"Nah, just something more serious than that", Steven replied and scrolled back to the top revealing the name of the aircraf boldly written on large fonts enabling Jonas who wasn't paying attention to easily recognize the aircraft that his secret admirer had mentioned to him about in Summerville through social network of the vessel, that would convey her to Greaves on an assignment where she could take some quality time off to get to know him better.
"Hold on a minute, stop scrolling for a second, I know this flight", Jonas said looking at the name of the aircraft Valentina had mentioned to him on Facebook network the previous day before she embarked on the journey which had ended her life.
"You do? How is that possible when you haven't been to Summerville. Besides that, according to the details given here, this airplane was built in that city and apparently, hadn't been to Greaves for the past four years ever since it was built which means that this was its first scheduled flight to this city so there's no way you would have known about about the aircraft unless someone else told you about it", Steven replied indicating the actual date flight A43 was built and hadn't taken an authorized flight to Greaves since then until the recent scheduled flight where it has been reported missing with forty passengers on board during its inflight to the city. Jonas was about to tell him how he came to know about the airplane but was interrupted by the voice of a rookie reporter from the GBS daily news transmitted by the television that sat on a wooden base hanging above the bald head of an officer that was peering at the TV screen at the upper left corner of the department closed to the venetian blinds that was slightly opened by a slat dangling loosely beside it.
The television displayed a female reporter with a fawn ponytail that was reporting live in front of a barricaded tape with the familiar warning inscription "DO NOT CROSS", boldly written in thick black fonts while the snowcladded fuselage lying on the snowfield behind the tape was seen lucidly by the dumbstruck spectators.
"We're coming live on GBS breaking news at the foot of the mountain and here behind me is what remains of the missing flight A43 that was scheduled to arrive in Greaves last night. According to two eye witnesses who saw the wreckage, the broken fuselage is filled with dead corpse of all forty passengers that are being excavated from the snow by the police and are being carried away to ten ambulances by the members of the red cross team after a rigorous search for the missing airplane. The police are now recovering dead bodies of the passengers from the wreck especially the corpse of the head pilot who was found outside the cockpit lying dead among four carcasses with his face utterly disfigured beyond recognition and sources from the police have it that the wolves must have fed on the corpse of the dead pilot but aren't sure of whom killed them although footprints of a man in knee-high boots were found on the white snow around the scene including a major discovery of the lifeless corpse of a female NAS agent named Valentina Rose was found by the police lying dead in the third compartment with terrible wounds on her body while her ID card was also found beside her corpse covered in blood and a wild hunch that is yet to be confirmed by the police believes that the passengers on board might have been massacred before the aircraft hit the mountain top and crashlanded on the snow broken into two leaving the tail region of the fuselage to be snowcladded which is being dug out by the police who is calling for a collaborative investigation with the NAS agency in order to ascertain the true cause behind the crash but shocking as it may seem, the NAS agency are yet to respond to the call made by the police chief this morning even none of their representative especially from their district in Summerville are here present to account for their dead agent. That's all for now and we'll get back to you once we get more intel from the police concerning this sad incident, Margaret Susan reporting live on GBS daily news, see you next time", Susan ended her speech leaving every officer in the department appalled at the breaking news for the day moments before the bald headed man instantly switched off the TV and walked away from the infuriated crowd before bumping into the custodian at the corridor who held a hot coffee which spilled on his uniform and shrieked out in pain attracting the attention of the officers in other cubicles of the fourteenth floor of the building as well as those in Steven's department who went outside to see what the ruckus is all about leaving behind five field agents in the department including Steven and his partner who switched that television back on revealing the wreckage once again as well as police agents flooding around the scene incessantly with individuals from the red cross team who were assited by police officers in tossing dead corpse on stretch beds carrying them away to ambulances.
