BOOK 1:THE BEGINNING:CHAPTER LIV:ANSWERS
"Let me have a look", Sermond requested and Dr. Davis moved aside for him to take a look at the broken claw that the scientist had recovered from the victim's body through an ordinary microscope since Dr. Davis had the claw placed inside a flat cylindrical container.
The others watched as Sermond crouched down while placing his right eye on the optical lens of the microscope and magnified his vision but he experienced a sharp pain in his eye the moment a bright light flashed into his vision to enable him see clearly.
"Goddammit,Doc!",
"Oops, my bad. I didn't know you were sensitive to light",
"I can see just fine without intensifying the light",
"I'm sorry but all I did was just to turn on the light meant to accompany the apparatus when being used. A human eye can withstand such amount of brightness and it shouldn't have any effect on you",
"Save the lecture, Doc and do me a great favor not to interrupt me any further",
"I won't if you insist"
"Glad you know that things should go smoothly between us",
Sermond answered and blinked thrice to ensure his sensitive eyes are no longer irritated by unexpected appearance of the light that magnified into his iris.
He wriggled his eyes when he felt the irritation wearing off and adjusted his collar to make him feel comfortable with the apparatus. The others except the doctor knew the reason why he had flinched at the sudden bright light and did nothing to reduce the pain he felt to avoid the risk of exposing their true identities.
Sermond took another look using the microscope, and this time, Dr. Davis needn't turned on the light for him to see the object clearly since the fluorescent light in the room was already visible enough for him to see the object clearly with the aid of the magnifying glass.
He recognized the claw to be that of a werewolf at second glance and no one had to tell him that it was evident that the victim was attacked by a werewolf and at least he as well as his companions knew this already except for the scientist.
After feeling satisfied with his discovery, Sermond retracted his head from the apparatus and straightened himself in front of the scientist.
"Well, what do you think?",
Dr. Davis asked to confirm his doubts about the assailant.
"Let's just say that it is one hell of a claw but unless we've gotten a DNA sample, we can't jump to any conclusions",
"I was hoping you would say that. I already ran a DNA test on it",
"You have?",
"Pretty much",
"That's pretty fast, Doc",
"Perhaps. All it took was a simple test on the item and the result was quite shocking",
"Oh really?",
"Yep. Trust me, you won't believe what I found",
"We wanna know if it's that important",
Pennat intruded. Sermond took a brief moment to look at the others only to find curiosity written in their face. He too was curious as well and wanted to know what the scientist had discovered during his private research on the broken claw that kept him distracted from noticing that Simon wasn't paying attention to what they came to do.
"I think it's best if I show you the test results instead",
He said and went out of the room. He left the ward as well and it was clear to his guest that his office was just across the hall where his personal desk and a lot of things were kept in the compartment.
A few seconds later, he was back with two red files his guest presumed to be the test results and he came back into the room along with them. He gave one of the red files to Sermond the moment he walked into the small cubicle and held the other as he took out a flash drive from his pocket .
"You can take a look inside while I show you a picture visual samples of what I discovered",
He said inserting the flash drive at the flank of the television.
Then he took the remote control and opened the flash drive folder in the television to select the pictures he wanted while Sermond kept flipping the pages of the first test results he was given by Dr. Davis. As he flipped,he suddenly came across a passport photograph of some odd man whose test result was indicated as a complete match to the claw.
"Who the hell is James Paul?",
He asked as he searched for answers in the pages of the document.
"He's my first guess to be the culprit and his DNA somehow matched the human DNA I extracted from the claw I found",
"You mean to say that you found two DNA after running test on it?",
"Exactly. It was confusing at first and I was indeed amazed when I found out that the claw contained a human DNA and that of a kind of mutated animalistic DNA",
Dr. Davis answered and pressed a button on the remote which broadly showed a picture of what was already in the file Sermond was holding.
"I stumbled across his records when I sort out to find out the human DNA belonged to and found that it is a perfect match and most part of his life records are missing from every database I checked except for this one that shows only his name",
"A Marine soldier?",
"If his records were erased, then it clearly means he might have already stopped serving the country by now",
"I guess you're right on that. He must have retired early judging by the length of time he joined the marine",
"Maybe that explains why he is not on the databases",
"I don't think so, Doc. Something must have happened for his records to have been almost erased",
"His face look familiar",
Leonardo mumbled out to himself but his memory about the man were all vague and didn't quite thought of the fact that he had seen him somewhere before.
The others as well as Sermond all watched the screen as the Doctor showed them some of his lucid findings.
"That'll do for now, Doc but I will need to get a copy of your findings and I want all of them",
"Fine. You'll get it",
Dr. Davis answered and pulled the flash drive from where he had inserted it. Then he gave it to Sermond who was surprised to receive it quickly.
"Don't look so surprised. That was a copy and the original files are in my computer",
"And the broken claw comes with me too",
"What?",
"You heard me. This is no ordinary issue and if I were to convince the boss about this, I would need the claw to backup the findings in this flash drive",
"But...",
"If you don't cooperate, we'll have no problem taking it by force and I mean it",
Sermond replied and glared at him. Dr. Davis suddenly became paralyzed not because of Sermond's hard stare but at the sight of his red eyes that clearly indicated that he had another side of him that wasn't human.
"You!",
Dr. Davis gasped out in terror at Sermond's sudden transition and wanted to escape but Pennant and Simon were quick to apprehend him right where he stood in absolute fright that had dawn upon him. Sermond moved a bit closer and stood shoulder to shoulder with the fearful scientist.
"Don't worry, Doc, we won't kill you. All you just have to surrender everything you have to us and don't ever speak of this again to anyone not even the cops otherwise it will be your daughter's corpse you'll be examining",
Sermond threatened with a clear warning and Dr. Davis nodded meekly.
"Tie him up while I go get his computers",
Sermond ordered and walked out of the room. Leonardo stood watching as Pennant and Simon carried out the Alpha's instructions without having trouble listening to the pleas of the appalled scientists.
