BOOK 1:THE BEGINNING:CHAPTER XXXV:CAMPUS
Leonardo strolled to his locker through the rowdy hallway filled with students heading in different directions and opened it with his key but was surprise to see his whole books in total mess lying scattered inside that was tainted with some white paint and sticky glue including his new soccer outfit which he got from the coach after he had struggled to joined the team last week whose players won't accept him as one of their teammates in spite of being a notable figure in the school where almost every student knew his father to be one of the affluent business tycoons in the city except for some nerds whom he associates himself with despite being a son from a wealthy family which made him to earn a queer nickname from other affluent kids in the institution especially a fat bully in his class who coincidentally happens to be the captain of the soccer team that he had signed up for, and he looked around, peering above heads of other students who went about tending to their affairs, to see if the culprit was still lurking around the long corridor but couldn't see the mastermind of the muddled items inside and close the red locker bolting it tight again before heading to his class along with his blue rucksack which he carried on his left shoulder as he kept striding forward to the stairs by the left wing of the crowded hallway that led to the upper section of the tall building.
He made his way through the crowded staircase holding the handrail for support in order not to get crushed by the descending, as well as ascending crowd of hasty students clad in mufti as they scurried in large numbers, searching for their class since the bell for the next lectures to begin had already been automatically rung by the bell few minutes before Leonardo climbed the stairs along with a few other students who also tried to evade the descending stampede as he safely rested his back by the left side of the wall in a great effort to avoid being trampled down the hard stairs by the large crowd and remained there for awhile until the mob had gone away leaving quite a few remnants including himself alone on the stairs.
He resumed his ascent to the stairs upstairs climbing to the upper floor before deciding to continue his journey to an upper corridor that stretches forth away to another dead end but had many opened cubicles on either side of the wall including another staircase close to the room meant for staff workers only while the school Janitor was drawing closer to opposite side of the corridor along with a dirty mop and a red bucket whose black handle he held tightly as he kept swinging the empty pail beside him after performing a thorough cleanup in the restroom meant for the tenth graders.
As he reached the summit of the stairs, he almost bumped into the Janitor but somehow prevented himself from falling backwards down the stairs using a double forward jump to get himself back on top of the stairs leaving the Janitor in complete astonishment at his quick reflexes which saved him from an accidental crash on the stairs.
"Wow! That's absolutely amazing.
You're one of those gymnasts, aren't you kid?",
"Yeah,..sure Mr. Janitor", He lied
"No wonder you could easily pull off a great stunt like that and I bet you will make the tryouts for the Olympics this week",
"I'm... not so sure that I will attend because I'm..kinda have a lot of plans this weekend", He replied smirking,
"Hmm I understand but I really wanted to see you there on Saturday showing the world your acrobatic skills and having some fun",
"I'd love to be there to watch but I got my hands full right now",
"Alright kid, you better get to class otherwise you will be in detention",
The Janitor said and climbed down the stairs leaving Leonardo to peer at his back feeling a bit guilty for lying to the black man dressed up in blue overalls but he shake off the thought from his mind and headed straight to his class striding through the silent hallway after recalling his father's orders to conceal his true identity from everyone else in school including Jason, his friend before he would be fully initiated as a member of the pack as well as taking his rightful place as the heir apparent to succeed his father as leader of the Sao clan someday when he's capable enough to lead the clan against their enemies especially the Lyoana clan whose operations during the night had illegally thwarted majority of the city's ghetto gangs, turning them to their bloodsucking henchmen as they silently scramble for territories under the cover of night in the hidden slums scattered throughout the urban areas of the city in preparation to triple their forces against their enemies.
As he head back to his class, strolling on the hallway alongside some of the students walking back to their class holding his backpack with one hand, the sudden thought of how his locker mysteriously got broken into which was done in secret probably by someone who wanted to make him have a hard time in the school, came into his mind overshadowing his guilt which completely vanished from his mind as soon as he arrived at his class, only to find out that the next lesson hasn't yet begin in the classroom and the next teacher is yet to arrive to put an end to the rowdiness in the classroom.
He pushed the door after he took a peek inside and walked in. Then he luckily docked using his quick reflexes and evaded a rumpled piece of paper which flew past him before hitting the door behind him. Some of the students were marveled by his acrobatic skills and a brief cheer soon arouse amidst the spectators as he got back on his feet again unscathed that died off as soon as it came. But a bad remark about his name eroded the little smile of being admired by the enoisy spectators came from someone notorious more familiar to him and to the nerds in the class, from his lips and instilled him more anger than he had inside of him concerning who muddled up his things in his locker without being seen by anyone.
“Perhaps, he must be the culprit”, he thought to himself and gripped the strap of his backpack more firmly than before.
“Nice one, Johnny”,
“The name's Johnson, Drew”,
He retorted strolling towards his seat behind Jason on the left row of seats facing the white board.
“I don't give a darn if its Johnny the bull”,
His opponent replied and a ripple of laughter followed amongst the rest of the other teenagers who were dressed in mofti especially the females who were almost getting their bellies hurt as a result of the wild laughter that got most of the hooligans jeering at him but Leonardo ignored them and went straight to his seat behind Jason who seemed not too happy with what was going on right in front of him though he did nothing to help save Leonardo who didn't mind at all, from the situation.
