BOOK 1:THE BEGINNING:CHAPTER XLVI:COVEN

Soon the driver drove the limousine into one of dirtiest slums at the eastern side of the city under the cover of darkness and he took a left turn into one of the dark streets in the ghetto where drug addicts and smokers often roam around the streets late at night. He parked the car in front of a liquor store where some men were getting themselves drunk with the bartender. Before the driver got down from the car and even sobbing Mary could notice anything was amiss, Bertrand saw her panties that was partly stained lying on the floor under the seat below her feet. Then in a blink of an eye, he quickly took it from where he saw it and disgustingly shoved it inside one of his pockets. Mary didn't see him do this nor did the driver who opened the door only to find him fully dressed whilst sitting exactly where he was when they first began the journey to see the witch. His appearance and commanding attitude seemed a lot contrasting to his perverted personality and the other vampires under him did not know of this side of him ever since he became their leader centuries ago except for Michael.
"We are here, sir",
The driver said as soon as he opened the door and saw Bertrand sitting on the seat, relaxing as if nothing was had gone wrong. Bertrand glanced at Mary who had by now stopped her sobbing and was silent as ever with her back facing him. He left first and came outside through the door as the driver paved way for him to pass.
"Alright, stay here and watch the limo",
He said but he waited for Mary who showed no interest in getting out of the car. He as well as the driver peered at her for some time hoping she would budge but she remained still. Both of them could perceive that she was breathing by the use of their vampire senses and somewhat waited patiently for her to respond. When she failed to leave where she sat down, Bertrand tapped the driver to go wake her up for he could sense that she was still very much alive but she lacked the profound strength to get up from where she lay on the seat and had drifted off to sleep.
The driver willing obeyed and entered into the automobile. There he found nothing, not even a single stain of blood on the seat and on the ground where it had poured upon since a whole part of it had dried off while she had wiped off the rest of the blood on her thighs with the handkerchief Bertrand gave to her.
Then he tapped her twice on the shoulder as he crouched behind her back whilst his feet remained close to the doorway.
She slowly turned her head towards him after she regained consciousness and looked at the driver staring at her.
"Sorry to wake you up but sir Bertrand wants you to come outside of the car",
He said peering at her. She looked past him and saw Bertrand looking directly at her. She felt a bit of hatred at the sight of the vampire who molested her few hours ago and wasn't ready to face him but she knew that she had no choice than to obey his bidding since their earlier intention was to see the witch.
"Al...right, I'll leave then",
She mumbled out still feeling a lot weaker than before. The driver moved aside and head back to give her room to get outside. As she moved her limbs, the sharp pains she felt all over her aching body earlier soon returned but she endured nevertheless and forced her way out of the car only to almost fall in the awaiting arms of Bertrand who caught her in time to prevent her from tripping on the floor. He held her by the elbow and smirked maliciously.
She wriggling out his grasp more quickly than the driver had expected and could barely steady her feet on the ground.
"You sure you can walk by yourself?",
The driver questioned and She nodded in affirmation before resting herself on the limousine in a fit to gather more strength to be able to continue walking in her poor state. The driver suspected that Bertrand had something to do with her despicable condition but he didn't say anything about it even though part of him knew what happened to her.
"I'll take it from here. Stay here and wait for us, we'll be back shortly",
Bertrand said to the driver and forcefully took Mary by the hand and pulled her from where she was. She harrased by him but she didn't tussle with him and followed beside him as he led her away into the liquor store.
She felt dizzy when she entered the store with Bertrand and could barely keep her eyes down at the men watching her tumbling beside Bertrand whom they barely recognize. From afar, a female black bartender in her early forties with a hairstyle of woven dreadlocks, who happened to be the individual they were going to meet saw them strolling towards the bar through aisle and she beckoned on them to follow her inside. Like the rest of the customers, she wasn't too happy seeing Bertrand dragging the lady along with him in a forceful manner that one of the men at the counter wanted to confront him but his companion held him back and prevented him from doing what he wanted.
Being the center of attraction, Bertrand returned their hard stare with a cocky smile across his lips as he pulled Mary along who could barely count her footsteps on the floor. He had seen the witch's signal to meet in the inner chamber where they last met few days before now and instantly changed their direction towards the back door of the night pub house.
The witch led them through a lengthy dark hallway till they arrived at another compartment which turned out to be an underground cave with series of candles positioned at either side of the spacious hall while a podium made of stone stood erected beside a shiny bluish pool of water. Two large books were opened as it was laid on the stony pulpit ever since it was left there by the witch. The cave was empty with no one but the silent sound of stagnant water waves rippling on the surface of the pool.
"Two visits in a week, that's highly unlikely you",
"Well...unforseen circumstances are what brought me here this time",
"I can see that. What happened to her?",
Tte witch questioned as she took her place at the pulpit.
"Her?",
"Yes, the girl you are holding. Her name is Mary, right?"
"So she's called",
"Mind telling me why she's like this and why you are here?",
"We're here for obvious reasons and as for her behavior, it'll be best if you ask her yourself",
"Obvious reasons like what?",
"The charm you put on her to walk on daylight last time is wearing off. You need to renew",
"Sounds okay to me",
"Good to hear but at what charge?",
"Come on, now Bertrand. Our real plans hasn't begun yet and you are already demanding what I want in return for helping you out with the poor girl",
"Then no strings attached to this, is that it?",
"Consider this as a token of friendship between us and I believe you'll remember this kindness of mine as long as you walk the day",
"It's fine with me then. You can carry on with her while I wait outside",
"The pleasure is all mine",
She replied flipping the pages of the book and kept on searching for something that she didn't want to find in the book. Bertrand hauled Mary down on the rocky ground and left the two women alone.
Then the witch stopped what she was doing and rushed to help Mary up from the ground. Mary wanted to pull away from her but she embraced her more tightly.
"Don't be afraid my child. You're safe now",
The witch said in a fit to comfort Mary who was now crying letting out all the tears she had been holding back and hugged the witch more tightly than ever before.
