THE BEGINNING:CHAPTER XIII:INVESTIGATIONS

A green chopper conveying four men slowly descend on the windy snow that is being blown away by the rotating rotor blades of the hefty chopper keeping it in mid air before alighting softly on the white snowfield behind four black snow-blowers that had been abandoned by their police riders who actually left them, heading straight to the wreckage amongst the busy crowd passing through the barricade tape to assist the other officers in excavating dead corpses from the wreckage and conveying them along with the teammates of the red cross, to five ambulances situated beside the tall mountain using stretch beds as their mechanism in transporting the corpse to the emergency vehicles.
Steven and his partner instantly alight the helicopter without thinking about the long rotor blades that had cease to propel in high speed around in the air which was made possible by a red button in front of a dark-skinned pilot sitting down on the front seat beside his hairy colleague, putting on a large headset which shrouded his ears from listening to the heavy noise produced by the propelling rotors during their journey from Greaves down to the remote montane areas where the crash had occurred the previous night and they both stepped into the shallow snow not deep enough to swallow their black brogues since the thick snow have been eroded away by the four snow blowers which granted easy access to an entourage of snowmobiles including ambulances as well as rookie reporters to safely tread on the paved path to the wreck fuselage. A queer Detective standing beside an ambulance headed towards them as they came down from the chopper leaving behind the pilot wasand his colleague in the air vehicle after peering at them from where he stood before trampling on the murky soil mixed snow with his lace-up shoes that covered his feet while his blue pants fondled the thin laces on his shoes which he buckled using a black belt around his waist, with his natty black suit partly exposing his scarlet necktie that dangled down his rumpled inner white shirt as he headed towards them leaving behind the rowdy crowd that was busy carry out rescue procedures having mapped out vital clues inside the repulsive compartments of the fuselage using v-shaped yellow paper that were scrubbed with black numbers as their guide to effectively carry out a clean sweep inside without skipping vital evidence that would immensely contribute to the ongoing case.
"Hey fellas, I'm Detective Joe and you must be Steven Raymond the nutcracker in every complex cases handled by the NAS district in Greaves. I've heard quite a lot about you and I'm very glad that we will be working together especially with your partner Jim Jonas", the detective said grinning in a strange way that seems to infuriate Jonas but he brush his anger aside and clasped his smooth hands that have already being felt by Steven who helds his handshake first with his right palm peering at his ID that was hooked on his beltsrap near his loin which was shrouded by his tucked shirt while Jonas peered at his neatly, curled hair before clasping his phalanges and trudged behind the two men who were plodding as well heading straight for the wreckage that was barricaded with a yellow tape flooding with every member of the rescue team.
"So, what did the two witnesses actually said when they found the airplane covered in snow?", Steven asked peering at the rookie reporter who stood facing the camera man who held his hefty video camera standing in front of the reporter while the yellow lay stretched behind her back. Some reporters from other broadcasting company were swirling round the police chief who stood at the front of the fuselage near the tainted snow trying to get the recent intel from him in order to send it to their station especially a dark bald headed reporter from SBN in the concrete jungle of Summerville who stretched forth his small micro phone amidst the crowd of journalists to the police chief's face trying to get his comments about the recent incident but failed to attain his goal due to the police chief's refusal to leak any news to the public concerning their findings during the rescue procedures.
"They said that they found both part of airplane severely damaged after the crash and dead corpses of the passengers inside as well which you see us excavating right now from the thick snow presumed to have fallen on the aircraft during the avalanche", Joe said taking shufti looks at the tall mountain which stood in front of them behind the aircraft and the flock of reporters gathering the police chief who decided to shake them off before heading to his snow truck while Jonas followed behind listening with great attention to their discussion.
"And did the crash killed them or something else did?", Steven asked returning his gaze from the reporter towards the tainted snow which was left opened by the dispersing crowd following behind the police chief trying hard to get some answers for the public
"We aren''t really sure that the crash killed them because we found something strange which must have occurred during the inflight of the airplane. Thankfully the black box didn't get damaged after the aircraft and it's in the hands of the police chief and some weird but terrible claw marks were found on the bodies of the passengers especially the dead NAS agent named Valentina Rose", Joe said peering at the herd of reporter standing outside shrouding the police chief completely who shielded himself with the side door keeping himself safe from their grasp, as he walked alongside Steven almost approaching the yellow tape while Jonas flinched a curious glance at the Detective after the name of the dead agent was mentioned again making him utterly curious about her death.
"What kind of claw marks? Is it a bear or some wolf?", Jonas inquired trying hard to figure out what's going on with the recent findings.
"I'm not so sure but it kinda looks like a wolf claw but much larger and deeper than that. I would love to show you but many of the bodies including the dead agent have been carried away to the morgue awaiting further investigation", Joe said lifting up the yellow tape before him in order to allowing himself and his colleagues to pass through but Steven held it as well much higher than him allowing his tall height to pass through the barricade with Jonas following behind him.
"What about the head pilot? Did he suffer the same like the others?", Steven asked leading the duo around the wreckage to the tainted spot which was also barricaded indicating some footprints around there but no corpse neither the carcasses was found lying on the red spot since the police had ordered the red cross team to convey the dead body including the four carcasses of the dead wolves to the morgue where they can easily find out what really happened.
"Not exactly, since we didn't see any traces of claw marks on his body but we only found his head totally disfigured assumed to be done by the dead wolves we found lying beside him. He must have died from the crash before the aircraft landed on the snow", Joe replied trailing on the soft snow behind him followed by Jonas as well before arriving at the ugly spot where Steven stood observing the red snow. Jonas giggled behind them attracting their fierce look at his funny face.
"Why you'll looking at me like that?", Jonas asked trying to stifle his laughter as they kept looking at him in an awkward way which made him stopped laughing.
"I don't know but what's so funny?", Steven asked feeling slightly embarrassed to have him around as his partner.
"Nothing... it's just that you called him head pilot who now has his head chopped off by the sharp canines of the wolves", Jonas replied grinning awkwardly but he was ignored by the two men who resumed their
"This is where we found the dead pilot along with the dead carcasses beside the corpse lying on the snow all stained with blood", Joe said looking at the soiled snow below the yellow tape. Steven lifted up the tape and enter into the restricted area squatting down before a footprints that was partly tainted with red blood allowing the others to follow him as well standing beside him on the soiled snow.
"Okay but what killed the wolves? Did someone else appear on the scene before the two witnesses came?", Steven asked touching the red snow with his right index finger trying to figure out what exactly happened after the plane crash.
"Most likely, that's what we thought as well because of this footprints of a man in knee-high boots which isn't sufficient to reveal his true identity", Joe answered squatting beside him leaving Jonas to stand behind him peering at his neatly curled hair. Steven remained quiet for a while observing the terrible scene and caught sight of the same footprints heading out the barricade towards the fuselage and ended on the torn area of the fuselage. He suddenly stood noticing the partly covered print on the snow following it to the exposed region of the fuselage leaving behind his partner and the detective who rose to follow him as well as soon as he stepped out of the barricade tape trailing the footprints which led him to the exposed region of the airplane and stopped abruptly at the broken entrance of the third compartment. He peered inside and wanted to walk in but Joe held him back preventing him going further while Jonas strolled behind plodding towards them along the soft snow.
