chapter 6

Josie POV

Okay, the kiss, the contract, everything was happening so fast and I didn’t know how to put myself on hold from this
disaster.

I questioned myself ″Should I?″ I thought about it and gave a final solution.

Maybe, I should.

I had to think about my personal shit; student loaned in debt, paying off of my car, I have to find a new apartment within two weeks. I’m in the deep end and don’t know where I would stand for this mess I’ve got myself to.

Even though I only wanted to be assigned to Personal Assistant, but now I have to ″fake″ getting married to the Matthias Lekas.

Is it wrong? Yes, but, I have no choice but to do so. Simply for my own doing, getting rid of these debts that I have on my hands. Besides, it’s not like Matthias would fall in love with someone like me, he’s all about the business, so I’m treating it as a business.

....

The dinner was almost over at the Lekas Foundation venue. I was silent the entire time while every rich businessman and businesswomen fall in laughter talking about rich people stuff.

From time to time, I would catch Matthias slowly locking his hands with mine, showing an appearance to others that we’re together. His thumb would brush against mine slowly, signaling to cool me down.

It’s like he has a sixth sense, knowing how nervous and quiet I was around with these people.

I stood to leave and suddenly felt awkward. Matthias gave me a worried look and I said ″Sorry, I have to use the restroom.″

″Down the hall, on your right,″ he responded.

″Thanks,″ I cleared my throat, lightly and went down to the restroom. There, I washed my hands quickly and dried them off with the paper towels.

I went out of the restroom and find myself looking over at the awards and pictures of Matthias and his father all over the wall.

″Amazing, right?″ A deep-voiced echoed behind me. I turned around and jolt in shock to see my ex-boyfriend, Michael. Micahel, or Mike and I used to date back in college days. We lasted for two years and broke up because well, we outgrew each other.

He was my first love, crush, and all but I would never forget those harsh words he said to me the night of when we broke up. That I was a useless person and he wasn’t really in love with me.

Figured out that two weeks after we broke up, he moved on. And now, just looking at him, I can feel my anger bursting through my veins as he stood there, waiting for me to say hi.

″Mike?″ I questioned.

″Hey.″

″What are you doing here?″

″I work here.″

I stared at his uniform Lekas. Great.

″I should leave.″

″Woah, hold up. How have you been? It’s been a while,″ he asked.

″You know for someone who claims they’re not in love with someone is a bit odd to ask.″

″Josie I’m sorry--″

″--- Josie?″ Matthias asked. His hands were in his pockets and he was rocking back and forth waiting for an answer.

I stammered. ″Uh, Matthias, I was about to---″

″--Who are you?″ He asked Michael.

″Michael, Michael Parker.″

″What are you doing here with my fiancé?″

My eyes grew at the words fiancé. Damn it, he couldn’t wait for me to sign the papers and he’s already claiming me as his fiancé.

Part of me was happy but the other part felt a punch of guilt in my stomach as Micahel looked at me and Matthias at the same time.

″Fiancè?″ He asked.

I gulped down my throat as Matthias came over to me and locked my hands with his.

″Yes, we’re engaged,″ Matthias said.

″I highly doubt that coming from a playboy billionaire. Since when you two started dating?--″

″--Right after she broke up with you,″ he clapped back. Michael scoffed.

″Oh yeah? Is that true Josie?″

″Yes,″ I mumbled.

″Interesting. Well, congrats to both of you. I wish you both well,″ he said in a gloomy tone.

″Thanks,″ Matthias responded in a sarcastic tone.

...

″What was that? Why did you do that for? I haven’t even signed the contract yet--″

″--If we’re going to do this together I expect you to play your loyalty to me.″

I scoffed. ″Loyalty? Really?″

″Yes, really. I don’t want you to see him again.″

″You don’t have to worry about that because I don’t care about Michael anymore. Plus, he moved on, he doesn’t want to be with me. I’m a useless person and he’s not in love with me,″ I said, and breathe hard realizing how hard it was to say that out loud.

Especially in front of Matthias.

The tears flowed unchecked down my cheeks and dripped from my chin.

″Josie--″

″I’m fine,″ I said, quickly whipping the tears away. ″I’m going to call an Uber.″

″No, I’m taking you home.″

″Matthias-″

″Josie, I’m taking you home, end of discussion.″
