chapter 30
Thomas didn’t leave Reese for the next 30 days while she recovered. He fed her, he bathed her, he walked with her, and whatever need she had he took care of it. Roman was beyond grateful for his help.
Kat and Roman sat in the gazebo watching the ducks.
“I think he has been good for her,” Kat says to Roman.
“Yeah, well, Reese can bring out the crazy in the most normal of men,” Roman says.
“You don’t mean that,” Kat says.
“See look here he comes,” Roman says.
Thomas was walking out to the pond to join them without Reese.
“Everything okay?” Kat asks.
“Yeah, I actually wanted to talk to both of you,” Thomas says.
“See here comes the crazy,” Roman says.
Kat pushes Roman. “Stop it,” Kat says.
“What is it?” Roman asks.
“I am going to ask Reese to marry me,” Thomas says.
The two of them sit in the gazebo staring at him. Neither one is really shocked. He has been Reese’s caretaker for the last month. They both could tell he was falling in love with her.
“Are you asking my permission to marry my sister?” Roman asks.
“Yes he is you, big dummy,” Kat says.
“Well then you have it,” Roman says.
“Mine too,” Kat says.
“I am planning to ask her today,” Thomas says.
“Good luck,” Roman says.
Thomas walks back to the house.
“Well, you were just mean,” Kat says.
“Really,” Roman says.
Kat leans in and kisses Roman. “I love you. I think he is good for her,” Kat says.
“I think so too,” Roman says.
Thomas goes into the house and runs up the stairs. He goes into the bedroom. Reese is still sleeping. He kisses her on the forehead. “Reese sweetie. I need to talk to you its important,” Thomas says.
Reese opens her eyes and pushes herself up into a sitting position in the bed. “Are you leaving?” Reese asks.
“No No No. I need to ask you something,” Thomas says.
There is a knock at the door. “Thomas come here a second,” Roman says.
“I will be right back,” Thomas says to Reese.
He goes to the door. Roman hands him a small ring box. “This was our mothers. It would mean a lot to me if you ask her with this,” Roman says.
Thomas takes the box and looks inside. A beautiful oval diamond was in the box. “Thanks, Roman,” Thomas says.
Thomas walks back to Reese. He kneels beside the bed and opens the ring box. “Reese will you be my forever?” Thomas asks her.
Reese is so overwhelmed she begins to cry. She knows the ring was her mother's. If Thomas has this she knows Roman approves. “Yes,” Reese says.
Thomas takes the ring and places it on Reese’s finger. “I love you, Reese,” Thomas says.
“Marry me today,” Reese says.
“I can make that happen,” Roman yells from the hall.
Kat and Roman immediately got on the phone to find a priest. Kat pulled her wedding dress out of the closet to smooth out the wrinkles. The two worked all day and by nightfall the two had an alter set up, a priest, one used wedding dress, a set of wedding bands, and two love birds ready to get married.
Reese slipped into Kat’s dress. “Good thing we are the same size,” Kat laughed as she smoothed the dress out perfectly on Reese.
They invited no one. Just the four of them and the priest were in attendance. Reese walked into the garden to the alter Roman set up at the gazebo where her soon to be husband was waiting patiently for her.
Roman walked her to Thomas and handed her over to him with a smile on her face. The four stood together at the altar. When the I do’s were said Kat and Reese were both crying.
“You will always be my forever,” Thomas says as he kisses Reese.
