Chapter 52 Suspiciously Anonymous
Noah's POV:
I'm not completely sure what's gotten into Eden. She's distracted and worrying about things that quite frankly are above her pay grade. Above mine even. Don't get me wrong. If Mrs Clancy needed help, I wouldn't hesitate to give it her but in what world would she need my help. And with the company's finances of all things. It's not exactly my forte.
I saw the look in Eden's eyes earlier and I know full well, she's not going to let this go. That woman can be like a dog with a bone when she wants to be. Just look at how she managed to get CCTV footage when I accused her of stealing the department's design. She's certainly resourceful.
Trying not to dwell on it, I carry on with my work. There's a lot to do and no time to waste if we want to get these new designs into production by the end of the week. Today is the last real day to make any necessary changes before we lock things in with the factories tomorrow.
"Eden," I call out to her.
She immediately looks my way, before getting to her feet and making her way into my office.
"What do you need?" she asks with a small smile.
Even tired, she really is beautiful. I can't believe I actually told her that though. I really shouldn't have.
"Can you confirm the materials have been ordered for each factory?"
"Sure," she says, nodding her head. "Anything else?"
I shake my head but just as she turns away, I call her back.
"Actually, Eden could you grab me a coffee?" It's weird asking her to get me coffee now. It's sort of become something I do for her, not the other way around.
"Of course," she answers before exiting my office.
When she's gone and I'm left alone, my mood immediately drops slightly. It's surprising how much her presence influences my mood.
She returns only a few minutes later with a steaming mug of coffee. I find myself trying to find an excuse to make her stay longer but that's ridiculous and there's work to be done so when she turns to leave once again, I don't call her back this time but I do remind her to leave the door open.
If I can't spend time in her company, I can at least sneak a glance in her direction from time to time.
My computer pings with an incoming email pulling my attention from Eden Winters. I don't recognise the sender but I open it anyway. There's no subject line, no body to the email, only a single file attached. I'm uncertain if I should open it. You hear horror stories of attachments containing viruses but my curiosity gets the better of me and I click on it anyway.
I don't know immediately what I'm looking at. At first glance, it appears to be a section of the company's finances.
Who would send this to me though? I look out towards Eden. Surely, she hasn't found this already. Even if she does seem capable of getting her hands on CCTV footage and the like, I can't imagine it's that easy to get the company's accounts. What's more, she would just walk in here and show me. There's no way she'd email me like we're in some sort of spy movie.
Returning my attention to the numbers in front of me, I spot a couple of things immediately that aren't accurate. At least not if my recollection is accurate and when it comes to numbers, it usually is. Certain material costs have been inflated and charges have been applied that just plain don't exist.
Perhaps, Eden was on to something earlier.
I don't want to rush to believe it though. It's still suspicious to say the least. I have no way of knowing who sent the data or even if it's accurate. Not without investigating it. Is that the intention behind the email, to catch my attention so I'll look into it?
The first thing I need to know is who sent this email and whether or not they can be trusted. Glancing back out at Eden, I give in. It looks like she's going to get her wish after all.
