CHAPTER NINETEEN
Colby's P.O.V
I smoothed down her hair and kissed the top of her head as she cried, I know she's scared and I don't blame her, this isn't the kind of life she deserves.
I don't think she believed me when I told her I'd protect her, although I don't blame her she went through this abuse for eight-teen years.
From the time she was kidnapped and even more now, I need to get her out of here, and I'm going to do it tonight.
Her tears became only sniffles, and soon she became silent and snoring softly.
I held her tighter to me, careful not to hurt her bruises or scratches that my father, not that stranger, had done to her.
He did nothing to earn that title other then have sex with my motherand the only reason he was happy about me so I could take his place in all his crap.
I refuse, I refuse to be a part of his criminal acts, I refuse to be a part of him, and I refuse to be him.
My children won't be treated the way he treated me and Chloe, and I won't let him be anywhere near them.
I kissed Chloe on her head and slowly got up, and covered Chloe in a blanket. She stirred a little but rolled over and went back to sleep.
I opened my desk drawer and took out the fake bottom.
All my money I saved up over the years had finally paid off.
I picked up the rolls of money and began placing them in my work out bag.
Thanks to my mother I got a hundred dollars every two weeks, I would save fifty every time I got my allowance.
Now I have fifty thousand four hundred dollars on my desk.
I have enough money to take her away from this place and start our life, start a family and get married.
After all the money was in the bag I started texting Lucey.
Me: Hey.
Lucey: Hey, what's up?
Me: It's time.
Lucey: Okay I'll go get ready now.
Me: No not yet everyone is still awake we will leave around five am.
Lucey: Okay see you then.
Me: See you then.
The only thing I'm taking with us is the clothes on my back and the money, Lucey doesn't even know about it.
I'm good with secrets, even better with promises; I look back at Chloe, the blanket now up over her head as if it's a defence mechanism.
I decided to lay down and hold her for a while, she was so warm.
My mind goes back to what happened earlier tonight on the beach, it was spontaneous and romantic and the way her body molded into mine, the feel of her hands on my lower half and the way she screamed my name just made me want her more.
I pulled her close and buried my face into her brunette hair. "We will be safe soon and I'll hold you like this all the time," I whispered, not expecting an answer.
She snuggled closer to me in response and my eyes began to flutter closed. It was twelve am and I'm beginning to get tired.
Chloe's P.O.V
There was a loud sound coming from across the room and I bolted up in shock. The thing he talks about is making a loud beeping noise, I nudged Colby to wake him up but he didn't move.
"Colby, your thing keeps going off, and it's scaring me," I whined.
"Who, what's scaring you I'll kill it," He jumped up groggily.
"You're talking thing," I said again, wiping the sleep from my eyes.
"My talking thing, oh you mean my phone," Colby said, jumping up and grabbing his phone.
"Shit," Colby said quietly when I was about to lay back down.
"What?" I asked, trying to stay awake.
"We have to go," He said, coming toward me.
"Go where?" I was still really tired.
"Away from here," He explained basically nothing as he wrapped me in a blanket and kissed me gently and went and picked up a big bag.
"What does that even mean?" I'm so confused I wrapped the blanket closer around me and got up following him to the door.
"We have to be very, very quiet, so no talking until we are in the car okay?" he explained before he unlocked the door.
"Okay," I agreed and he unlocked the door.
We quickly moved through the house like mice but quieter, down the stairs into the living room and out the sliding doors.
That's when he took my hand and we ran past the garden, past all the cars up to the gate.
Behind the gate a black car was sitting with the lights off but there was someone inside, they got out and walked to the gate, it was Lucey.
I backed up from the gate; my chest began to get tighter and harder to breathe, I remember what she told me in the bathroom.
Now that I think about it ,why are girls telling me insulting things in bathrooms?
"You two ready?" Lucey asked behind the gate with her arms crossed.
"If we weren't standing here, come on help me open this thing," Colby said, attempting to open the gate.
She sighed helping him open the gate, once the gate was opened Colby rushed me out the gate, opened the car door and pushed me in and ran around to the front and into the passenger side. "Alright let's get the fuck out of here," Colby said exausted pulling out two smokes passing me one.
"Hey, what about me?" Lucey asked.
"Smoke your own," He said the cigarette between his lips.
He lit his and then passed me the lighter for the first time, since he started giving me them.
I lit my cigarette and passed the lighter back. "You're a real prick tonight you know that," Lucey said, stopping at a light, and getting her own cigarette.
"Yeah well I'm trying to get out of the city, any of the gang sees us we are completely screwed," He said frustrated.
I can tell he's on edge, I have no idea where we are going but it must be really stressing him out, out of habit I grabbed his hand as he sounded more angry.
I took a longer puff than usual because having him on edge is putting me on edge, he held my hand gently as we smoked, and I could tell with the death glares from Lucey that I was pissing her off, but I kept silent.
I was getting really tired.
I just wanted to cuddle into Colby and call it a night but I know that isn't going to happen.
I continued to smoke the cigarette I was given ignoring her ugly glares.
Colby tightened his grip on my hand as red car was driving behind us and Lucey's phone rang and I jumped.
They gave each other a look and she answered the phone. "Hello?" She said that all you could hear was mumbling on the other side.
"I'm going on a trip," She said back.
There was more mumbling.
"With people from school," She gave Colby a look.
"Yes I'll be back tomorrow, but I have to go," She said back.
"Because as you can see I'm driving," Lucey said, sighing.
"Yeah, bye," And she hung up.
She looked at Colby for a second. "We got to take the long way," She said with a sigh, turning a corner.
"We can't take the long way it takes us in the rival gangs way," Colby said irritated.
"I know but we don't have much of a choice right now," She sped up going down the dark road.
The buildings down here look abandoned and graffiti was everywhere, and I took a last puff of the cigarette and threw it out the window.
I laid back against my seat and my eyes were getting heavy.
I'm so tired, I can close my eyes just for a second right?
