CHAPTER TWENTY

Colby's P.O.V

Chloe's hand fell from mine and I looked to see if she was okay. She was wrapped in the blanket fast asleep and I smiled at my sleeping angel and turned back towards the road.

I rubbed my face because I was even getting tired from driving for an hour.

I closed my eyes, leaning my head against the window, until I felt a hand on my thigh.

I opened my eyes confused to see Lucey's hand placed on my upper thigh. "What are you doing?" I whispered confusedly.

"What I need to lean my arm somewhere," She replied, I rolled my eyes and looked back out the window not paying much mind, at least until her hand slowly started to go higher.

"Okay seriously stop," I was getting angry. She needs to stop pulling this shit, especially in front of Chloe, asleep or not.

"What girl can't have some fun?" She joked about pushing her hand higher, almost touching my lower half.

"Lucey you know I'm not into you right?" I said taking a glance at Chloe who is still fast asleep, Lucey tightened her grip but didn't move it.

I sighed as she continued to drive, and then an hour passed, and I was slowly falling asleep again.

Two hours passed and we drove to the second town over, when I knew we were safe I told her to pull over.

She pulled into an ally, as she got out I nudged Chloe's leg and she woke up.

"Where are we?" She asked, rubbing her eyes and I smiled.

"We are finally safe," I said while getting out of the car, Chloe got out and wrapped the blanket tighter, I still had my bag.

Once we were all out of the car Lucey suddenly wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me on my lips and I did not kiss back but instead pushed her off me.

Chloe's P.O.V

I just stared, I was angry and upset. Lucey turned to me before speaking. "You can get lost now, kitten, you're free," She said laughing and wrapped herself around Colby again.

"Go on run," She laughed and I looked at Colby.

"What the hell are you talking about Lucey, Chloe isn't going anywhere, and get the fuck off me," Colby said pushing her off him again.

"I thought you said you wanted to run away with me," Lucey said, upset.

"Yeah to get away from that place, I didn't mean to be with you," Colby said, shaking his head.

"What?" She yelled angrily.

"I said I don't want to fucking be with you!" Colby shouted, and that's when I heard a bang and blood.

Lots of blood and Colby dropped the bag and collapsed to the ground, and in Lucey's hand there was a gun, I screamed I ran to his limp body and screamed.

"Colby, Colby no, no, no," I cradled him and looked up at her.

"Why?" I yelled and she ran into her car and squealed out of the ally and we were alone, and other than me screaming was silence.

Chloe’s P.O.V

I screamed for help over and over again until I lost my voice, no one showed up until the very last second.

“Hey, are you alright down there?” A silhouette of a man stood against the rising sun and for a minute I thought he was a god.

“Please, please help me with my fiance, he got shot please?” I doubled over Colby’s body.

“Oh my god,” He rushed towards us; he had short white hair and eyeglasses.

He helped me pick him up and carry him out of the alley way.

“My car is right down here miss, I can drive the two of you to the hospital,” He says hurriedly.

I sniffled and nodded my cheeks sticky and wet from tears, come on Chloe you have to be the strong one now.

We carried him to the back seat of the man’s car and I sat with Colby with his head on my lap and I caressed his hair with tears still going down my face, my cheeks hurt from the salty tears on my cheeks, hiccuping the man sped our way to the nearest hospital.

Passing building’s among buildings.

“Don’t worry, miss, we're almost there,” He says looking back in his mirror.

“T-Thank you” I sniffled.

“You're going to be okay Colby,” Blood soaked his shirt and his bag was over my shoulder.

It was heavy but if it was Colby's I'd hold onto it.

Finally, we made it to the hospital and the man helped me carry Colby inside.

“Excuse me, we need help,” The man called out to the nurses behind the counter and everybody ran toward us.

Suddenly everything felt like it all went in slow motion. Everything around me nearly stopped then suddenly went back to normal as he got ripped from my arms onto a gurney nearby. Next thing I know he’s being wheeled away through swinging doors and then he is gone.

I collapsed, my body shaking as I’m on my hands and knees, my vision became blurry and my chest got tight and harder to breathe. I started crying. Large tears escaped my eyes and I began sobbing.

The stranger rubbed my back and told me he’s going to be okay, but I don’t believe him.

Suddenly a woman placed a hand on my head and I jumped and looked up to her and I shook and hiccupped from the amount of crying I’ve been through for the past two hours.

The woman was in a nurse’s outfit, she held out her hand to help me off the floor, I nervously took her hand and she helped me up by helping me walk to a chair in the waiting room, she took the seat next to me.

“That man is your fiance?” She asked as I wiped my eyes and I nodded.

“He’s quite handsome,” The young nurse said with a small smile, I nodded again with a small smile back.

“You're quite into the bad boy’s huh?” She says playfully bumping me in the shoulder, I shrugged since I’m not really understanding what she means by that.

“How old are you?” She asked.

“Eighteen,” I say small.

“Oh honey, you really should call your parents,” The nurse said and it made me angry.

Why does no one understand that I don’t have parents?

“I don’t have parents,” I say, sighing.

“Did you get into a fight with them, I’m sure they don’t mean any of what they said,” She smiled gently.

“No, I mean I don’t have parents, at least not that I know of,” My eyebrows knitted together.

I remembered what Hayley said, ‘everyone has parents’.

“You mean you never met them, who took care of you all these years?” She tilted her head in curiosity, and I started crying again.

“C-Colby always kept me safe, and n-now he's, he’s…” I stuttered as I sobbed and she wrapped an arm around my shoulder comforting me.

The man from before is gone and I never got to thank him for helping me.

“Colby will be alright, you’ll see,” She smiled gently before a chubbier lady came into the room.

“Kelly, your husband is on the phone,” The chubby woman says.

She had mocha skin and dark brown eyes, she was also wearing a nurse's outfit.

“I’ll be right there, Carla,” The woman ‘Kelly’ says back getting up.

“Don’t worry too much, okay, I’m sure he will be fine,” Kelly says before she walked away, and I was alone again.

I put my hands through my hair taking a deep breath, this was the first time I was ever alone other than what happened at the Diner and even then I made a friend.

What do I do now, where do I go, do I just stay here?
