Chapter Sixty-Five
Chloe’s P.O.V
I made my way slowly out onto the balcony, I needed fresh air. I haven’t heard from Colby or Jason in hours, and I can’t call them again, but right now I don’t know if any of them are dead or alive.
I leaned against the metal bars I could feel the staples in my abdomen pulling, I took a deep breath. I heard the balcony door open and close behind me. “I know there’s a lot of stress right now, but is there anything I can do to ease it a bit?”
Hayley questioned, leaning sideways onto the balcony bars, I thought for a moment.
“Actually, there mighty be. Call Hayden.” I say, nodding.
“Wait, are you sure thats a good idea?” You could hear the doubt in her voice.
“Regardless of him not listening to orders, he is still good with combat and a gun.” I said, taking a cigarette from the pack, lighting it between my lips inhaling the smoke.
“It's just that, we haven't really heard from him since that night with Lucy.” Hayley trails off.
“What are you talking about? He was supposed to check in.” I replied, pushing myself up to face her.
“We tried but there were no answers.’ she says regrettably.
I took another inhale. “You're telling me you called him multiple times, and you didn't find that suspicious?” I stared at her, waiting for an answer.
“Right, you have a good point.” Hayley replied, ashamed.
“Do you think Alaster was going to sit by as we killed off his people? No, he's going to retaliate, Hayden could be dead.” I paused for a minute and put out my cigarette before continuing. “Let's go.” I say, heading towards the door.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“Something I should have done a month ago. We are going for a wellness check.” I answered by opening the door to my parents, silently sitting on the couch.
“We are leaving, you can stay if you want, but I have to run a few errands.” I say,I'm going to get the car keys.
“Chloe, are you sure now's the time to do all that.” My mother said it gently.
“I am not going to just sit here, I need to go do something else while we wait, and there's something I must do.” I nodded at Hayley, gesturing towards the door.
“Well, can I come with you?” My mother asked, standing and pulling her purse onto her shoulder.
“No.” I am placing my hand on the door knob.
“You think this is just hard on you? We just got you back, and now you're leaving again.” My father yelled, standing up from his seat.
I spun around to face him and before thinking, I blurted out, “You found out I was your daughter less then twenty-four hours ago, other than Hayley, I have been on my own, don’t you dare try to control me when I finally got my freedom back. Those are my kids, and I’ll be damned if I lose them like you lost me.”
I turned back around, opened the door, and slammed it shut. I am seathing I never thought I could ever be this angry, but I finally hit the limit.
Instead of waiting for the elevators, I ran down the stairs, I had steam to burn when I finally got to the lobby, Hayley was already there.
I sighed and headed for the door. “I’m glad I caught up to you; I thought you left me behind.”
“No, I wouldn’t do that, and besides, I don’t have a license.” I say, throwing her the keys.
“Right, we should really fix that.” She teased me, as we headed for the door to the parking lot.
“Ms. Chloe, where are you going?” A police officer startled me, he must have been standing behind the wall where I couldn’t see him.
“Jesus.” I jumped, my hand to my heart, from being startled. “Don’t you have better things to do than stand outside my building, like finding my children?”
“My post is here with you, madam.” He said, sternly.
“Why is that.” I asked with a sigh.
“Your children are missing, your boyfriend and brother, not only ran from police but also shot someone at the gas station in the next town over. You are now under 24 hour surveillance until we get them in our custody.” The officer said, his hands on his belt as if ready to shit at any given moment.
“Well, we are on our way to get groceries, so nothing big and exciting as that, we don’t have room in the car for you at the moment, but you may follow if you wish.” I reply nonchalantly, hoping his answer will be that he will stay here with my parents.
“Thank you, understanding, and I’ll follow in my car, so no issues.” He says, with a nod.
“Great.” I say, taking Hayley's arm and pulling her as normally to the car as I can.
“What are you doing? The whole reason we are leaving is to go see-” Hayley was whispering but I cut her off before she finished.
“Not a word til we get in the car.” I whispered back, I looked over to the officer, nodding at me as he got in his car, I smiled and nodded back.
I let go of Hayley's arm and made it to my side, opened the door and quickly got in, closing the door again, Hayley was sitting in the driver's seat.
“You know that grocery store by Haydens, that’s fifteen minutes away?” I asked, putting on my seat belt.
"Yeah, what about it?” She asked, putting the car in drive.
“We can lose him there, he won’t go in the store, it would cause too much unwanted attention.” I say taking a cigarette from the glove box, lighting it and opening the window a crack.
“So your plan is to lose him, by going to the grocery store, acting like we were going in, sneaking back out, and wrapping around to Haydens.” She asked, clarifying.
“Yep. That's my plan.” I answered, as I took another inhale.
“Think it will work?” She asked, glancing in the mirror, to look behind her to see the blue and red lights slowly going around behind us.
“It has to, or we are screwed. Also, what the hell are the boys up to, shooting a guy at the gas station? Taking off from the police? Actually, that last one makes sense, but still.” I say, ranting on, flicking ashes out the window.
