CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

"When he found us at the beach, we went down on the sand and he had blankets, we had a picnic and then things lead to another and he made love to me," I say red-faced.

"Awe," she says taking another bite.

Colby's .P.O.V

There was a knock on the oak wood door, I opened it to greet my little brother, as well as my mother who stood behind him with a hand on his shoulder.

"Hey mum, hi Xavier." I greeted them as I opened the door wider to let them through.

"Hi dear, how are you." My mother asked.

Her skin looked brighter and seemed happier.

"I'm alright, how are things with you?" I asked taking their jackets to hang them up.

"I'm well thank you," Mother says sweetly.

"I think Addy is in the backyard if you want to go play," I say with a smile.

His face lit up with a huge smile and ran off to the backyard.

"Its very sweet of you to have Xavier come over so much." My mother spoke with a genuine smile.

"We are family, of course, we will have him over," I explained with the same smile.

"I guess that's true," she says.

We walked to the kitchen, I realized there's a bunch of pictures hanging on the walls.

They were pictures of me and Addy when she was a baby in my arms we were both laughing.

The next is Chloe and I's wedding, she was so beautiful in her white lace gown.

I shook my head and walked into the kitchen behind my mother.

"Carolyn, it's nice to see you I was just about to make some tea would you like to join me?" Chloe asked turning on the kettle.

"Yes please dear," Mother agreed and took a seat at the island.

Chloe got two teacups and placed them down putting in the tea bag with a teaspoon of sugar.

"So how are things?" Mother asked looking at Chloe.

"They have been okay, we got a bump in the road today but things seemed to slowly get better," Chloe says looking up at me as the water starts to boil after a few minutes.

Chloe's P.O.V

We finally made our way back to the car, I'm still overly tired since I didn't sleep well from my nightmare.
Maybe my nightmare isn't over yet, maybe all of this is just a dream.

Maybe I'm not pregnant, maybe Colby is up in his room and I'm still down in the basement. Maybe, just maybe none of this is real.

I opened the doors and got into the car, Hayley started the engine and we made our way back down the road and down the gravel road, parking in front of the walk-in clinic.

I laid my head onto the cool glass closing my eyes I breathed slowly and deeply.

I'm about to find out something that would change my life forever.

"Are you ready?" Hayley questioned turning off the car.

"Not really," I answered starting to feel nauseous again.

"Yeah, me either." She says through a sigh.

We got out of the car and made our way inside the door chimed as we walked in.

"You two can just go right in," Rose says not looking up.

We didn't reply we just walked right in towards his office and knocked on the door.

Doctor Crowell opened up and waved us in and we sat down in the seats by his desk.

"I just got the results back," he says grimly.

"What are they?" Hayley asked for me, I swallowed hard.

"It came out positive, Chloe you are pregnant." He says looking me in the eye.

"Oh." Is all I could muster out, I didn't know if I should be happy or devastated.

"Is there anything else I can help you with today?" He asked slowly.

I shook my head, I felt numb and I'm getting angry over the fact that I can't feel anything about it.

"Okay, well I'm going to need you to come back in six months," he explained writing on a small piece of paper with a pen.

"Why?" I asked confused.

"-Because we need to check up on the baby," he explained passing me a note.

"Oh," I say again taking the piece of paper from him, Hayley rubbed my back gently and I just sat in silence.

I slowly got up and headed back towards the door with Hayley trailing behind me.

Neither of us says anything the entire way back to the car, that's when the emotions hit me all at once and I lost my footing.

Anger, resentment, isolation.

I don't know what to do but I have to do something, I held myself up against the car then got inside and sat staring out the window.

"Hayley," I began.

"Yes?" She answered.

"I want to go see Colby," I announced still not looking back at her.

"Okay, I'll drive you now." She replied turning us around.

We drove for an hour and forty-five minutes, I'm an hour and forty-five minutes more pregnant then I was before and Colby is still not here.

We finally rolled into the hospital's parking lot I looked towards the hospital, Colby is currently unconscious in a hospital bed not knowing what's going on around him, and it hurts.

I got out of the car and ran towards the entrance with Hayley calling out to me to wait, but I didn't I walked through the open and shut doors and all the way into where he was laying.

I fell to my knees, so many needles were prodded into his body, his face was covered with a mask that helped him breathe.

My chest hurt, I wanted them to pay.

Tears ran down my face, my hands balled into fists, I slowly got up and walked up toward where he is laying.

I pushed his hair away from his eyes, I took the hand that was free and placed it onto my stomach.

"I'm pregnant Colby," I whispered through tears.

"Our baby is in here." I laughed at the same time I cried.

"Now I just need you to wake up." I kissed his hand holding it tight.

"Please," I pleaded but all I got back was the beeping and silence.
