CHAPTER FIVTY-EIGHT
Chloe's P.O.V
That wretched woman has twins, and I remember the first time I met her, she was almost as bad as Alistair.
Her white curly hair and barely wrinkled face made me shiver.
She used to tell Alistair to beat me more, that I had to learn more discipline, and show more respect.
Everyday she stayed I had gotten beat at least once a day and instead of my meals once a day I got food maybe once every three days that month.
I remember the fight Carolynn and Alistair had the last night she was around, it was the first time Carolynn stood up for me, at the time I didn't really understand why I was getting hurt and barely fed, I was only four or five at the time.
I held Hayley's phone tightly in the palm of my hand seething with anger, any tighter the screen would crack.
"Chloe, are you alright dear?" I turned towards the woman who gave birth to me.
"No, and until they are safe I won't be." I admitted, passing Hayley her phone back.
My mother nodded, if anyone could understand I guess it would be her.
"How did you come to terms that I was your daughter?" I shot out the question like a bullet from a gun.
"When Jason got a call we asked them for a DNA test to see if you matched." She explained, her face looked guilty for even doubting it.
"Wait, you guys are related, you and Jason are…" Hayley trailed off.
"Siblings, yes." I finished for her.
"Was this what you had to talk to Jason about yesterday?" She asked, she looked hurt that I didn't tell her sooner.
"Yes, but none of us knew for sure and they didn't even believe me when I brought it up." I sighed, this wasn't how I wanted to handle this but it's obvious I don't get that choice.
The door clicked open and my father peaked through the slit of the doorway. "Is it safe to come in yet?"
"Yes, I guess it is." My mother says with a sigh.
"My goodness it's nice to see you too, my beautiful wife." He says sarcastically, coming in and kissing her on the forehead.
"There are a lot of things going on, and many things we need to talk about." Mother says, the least bit excited.
"That's another thing I came back to about, the nurses said Chloe has to pack up and leave, they have the police on the line." He explains, as he places his hands in his jean pockets.
"They called the police?" I asked incredulously.
"We should go, Chloe especially when they find out it has to do with…" I caught on to what she was implying.
"You're right we aren't safe here." I say grabbing my clothes off the side table and pulling my shirt over my head, and putting my pants on before pulling the hospital gown off.
"Not safe, it's the police, they serve to protect. What could be any safer?" He asked, chuckling.
"Listen I know you guys don't know any of the situation, but for now it's better to keep it that way." I say picking up my phone, the screen is smashed to pieces from the car crash.
"Hold on a minute, what are you talking about?" My father asked, shaking his head.
"They aren't coming here for the twins, dad. They are coming for me." I say making my way to the door.
"Shit, we don't have the car and Jason has both mine and his keys." Hayley says, scrounging through her purse.
"It's good that we got a spare key then." My mother says pulling spare keys from her own purse and holding them out to me.
"Thank you, really, after this is all over I'll explain everything." I say taking the keys gratefully and passing them onto Hayley.
"Stay safe and you can keep the car until Jason gets back, but if you need to talk we are here, the police will come to the house, we do have to talk to them about the twins and they might find it odd that you aren't the ones speaking to them." My father says in a monotone voice.
"The moment they find out who took them they will turn on us, they have an agreement, I don't know all the details but I do know being here puts me in danger." I say my hand on the door handle.
"Go, we will talk later." My mother says with a sad, worried gaze.
I opened the door to leave but what stood behind it made my stomach jump into my throat.
It's too late. The cops stood there in the doorway.
Colby's P.O.V
The silence was deafening, neither of us said a word since the call with Chloe.
I think I really put a perspective of my brother, but he had the right to know.
I glanced at him a few times before sighing, and he jumped, he must have really been in his own world."Are you good?"
"What? Oh yeah, sorry I have a lot on my mind." He says, shaking his head.
"Listen, if my brother loves you and shows it then I have nothing against the two of you, but you deserve to know, and Jasper isn't one for 'opening up'" I explained, looking in the rearview mirror as I noticed red and blue lights flashing. "Shit."
"What?" He says looking behind him, I grabbed him and pulled him forward again.
"Don't turn around. You make eye contact and we will be pulled over." I replied, holding my breath and slowing down the car to the correct speed limit.
After a few minutes went by as they followed behind, until they got bored and sped up and around to go by.
Once they were far enough ahead I let my breath go, relieved.
"Why would they have pulled us over? It's not like we are doing anything illegal." He comments leaning his head on his arm from the side door.
"It's a habit." I say dully, remembering when I used to be in the gang, and dad would pay them off to let us go, and this time I have no money on me.
"Let me guess, your father?" He asked dryly.
"Partly, but my father pays them off, or pays them to clean up his mess." I answered with a sigh.
"Damn, dude, have you ever had a normal childhood?" We both laughed at that, knowing damn well I didn't.
